If you have been with us a long time, you know we have brought you a new Elf on the Shelf Ideas daily (in the months of November and December) for the past seven years. You can view our Elf on the Shelf Master List for a full list of ideas including every idea we have ever done.

Of course when it comes to welcoming an Elf on the Shelf in your family, it’s important to know all the Frequently Asked Elf on the Shelf Questions.

Does Elf on the Shelf Have a Family?

Does Elf on the Shelf have a Family?

Every Elf on the Shelf has a family. In fact, she/he has you. You are part of his adopted family he gets to visit every Christmas season.

Some might ask if Elf on the Shelf has parents? Just like us, ever Elf has to come from somewhere and each Elf’s family is different. We do not have the privilege of meeting Elves parents but sometimes Elf might arrive with a brother, sister or friend.  In fact, some families actually have an Elf baby (which makes that Elf a parent.) It’s complicated.

Learn how to welcome an Elf on the Shelf baby into your home.

Who is the Family Behind the Elf on the Shelf?

Who does the magic behind Elf on the Shelf. The Elf Christmas tradition has actually been around a long time but has took off to become a huge success in 2004 when Carol Aebersold and daughter Chanda Bell wrote the Book the Elf on the Shelf and marketed it with the beloved red North Pole visitor we all love. With Aebersold’s other daughter, Christa Pitts, the trio devoted their live to spreading the word of Christmas cheer through the Elf on the Shelf.

(… and if this family would like a third daughter, I am waving my hand!)

Elf on the Shelf Family Pajamas

One way to incorporate even more Christmas Tradition with Elf on the Shelf is with Elf family pajamas. Major retailors including Walmart, Target, Kohl’s and Amazon all have the official Scout Elf brand and generic Elf pajamas. Bringing Christmas Elf Pajamas is an excellent Christmas Eve tradition that can come in a Christmas Eve box.

Reading Corner Ideas. Kid’s reading pods to inspire imagination and creativity; home reading nooks to provide comfort and rest.

Creative Reading Corner Ideas

Creative Kids Reading Corner Ideas for the Home

My girls are excellent readers. Growing up, this was not true of me. I hated to read. This lead me to the conclusion that they got some of this love through their environment over their genetics. I did a few things to “manipulate” good readers including creating an environment that embraced reading. From the time they were very young, I rarely said no buying them a book. I shopped wisely, but when a book was finished, I often purchased a new one. This was especially true when they began reading chapter books and series. This grew and grew our library to the point where most of our shelves are strewn with books. In fact, my son’s bedroom is a library. I love this as he is only two years old and falls asleep surrounded by books.

Buying Used Books

I have been able to shop frugally for my girls. Often, I purchase used books from Thrift Books or, my favorite, Better World Books. These books come in decent conditions.  Sometimes they are a used library book or a book from a home. Either condition, doesn’t matter to me. It’s not the outside of the book, it’s the journey they go on inside.

When my girls were young and just beginning to read, I gave them the option to either go straight to sleep or to read in their bed another hour. I left a clock in their room and provided book lights if they chose the later. One of our favorite books to get started on reading was Bob Books. Currently, they are in 3rd and 5th grade and I still provide this same rule. Go to bed or read until (the time I provide.)

Creative Kids Reading Corner Ideas

Doing a few of these things – providing books, providing time, and providing a space – as created girls who love to read and are very good at reading. They are creative, young ladies, and I attribute it to these resources.

To provide your own enjoyable reading environment, take a look at some of these Creative Kids Reading Corner Ideas for the Home to create your very own young readers in the home.

You might find some of these ideas in our Teen Bedroom Spaces and also in our Bookshelf Styling Ideas.

White Party Ideas

While we made an adorable Winter ONEderland Party (for a one year old), I get a lot of visitors for White Theme Party Ideas. Because of this, I wanted to take some of our Winter Wonderland Ideas and incorporate it into an adult white party, for those of you that are looking!

What is a white themed party?

Do not get confused, a white party is not to exclude any race. In fact, it’s pretty opposite. It is to celebrate all! The White Party Theme is pretty self-explanatory. It is a party where the color white is the theme. From the food to the party decor, the clothing, the tablescape, and more, everything is attached to the color white. White parties are great for bachelorette parties, baby showers,  New Year’s Eve celebrations, summer parties, or really any occasion.

White parties are best in the evening from sunset to late at night. The white is perfect for lighting techniques like black lights, candles, or even fairy lights. The biggest struggle is likely with the food. Trying to find white food can be especially challenging.  Pinterest is always a great place to find white food but we also included some White Party Food ideas below.

Before your party begins, don’t forget to download your White Party Music Club List!

Enjoy the party!… we mean the White Themed Party!

White Party Decor

white candy buffet

What do you serve at a White Party?

The easiest way to have white food is to have a white candy buffet. It requires no baking but really brings your color pallet forward. I love Oh Nuts which allows you to shop by color. I recommend some these Anchor Hocking Heritage Hill Jars, also hit up the Dollar Store for cheaper options. Candy Warehouse also has a whole White Party Candy Buffet kit (glass not included). Don’t forget the white rock candy!

Think you can control your balloon with a squirt of a water bottle? Show off your skills by guiding your balloon through the air and into the waiting trash can before your opponent does. All it takes for this game are two trash bins or storage buckets, balloons, and two squirt bottles.

Puddle Jumper

Supplies: Ping-Pong Balls, Water, Cups
