Don’t toss that Christmas holiday candy. Save it for this Love Shack Valentine Gingerbread House. Adorable ideas to create the most adorable February food craft for kids!

Love Shack Valentine Gingerbread House

Love shack, baby love shack!

Don’t toss that Christmas Gingerbread House Kit! Whether you are headin’ down the Atlanta highway or nesting in the coziness of your own home, we have the most adorable DIY Valentine Gingerbread House. We were inspired by Wilton’s Valentine Gingerbread House.

If it’s the end of Christmas, don’t toss that Gingerbread kit. I have done that. December 25th rolled around, we never made our gingerbread house and my first though was “this won’t make it until next year!” Well the truth is, it will. It will make it to February of next year with the creation of a Love Shack Gingerbread House for Valentine’s Day.

  • Gummy hearts
  • Valentine M&M’s

  • Valentine nonpareil sprinkles
  • Mini Starburst Reds
  • Conversation Hearts

Valentine Love Shack Recipe Directions

These recipe directions can be adapted to your own style. We are sharing how we decorated our Gingerbread Home, but style to your own taste.

First, lightly frost the cake platter with a spatula.

Break three graham crackers in half width wise.

Next, fill a decorating bag halfway with frosting and another one half way but with a star tip in the end of the bag.

Frost the two longer sides and the bottom of the four graham cracker pieces and stick them to the frosted cake platter in the shape of a house.

Then frost the other two graham cracker squares on the two longer sides and stick them on top of the house for the roof.

Carefully cut two triangles with a plastic knife to fit inside the front and back of the roof.

Frost the three triangles sides and stick them onto the frost and back of the roof.

Use the star decorating tip to make a ruffled border on all the edges and top with sprinkles.

If you want, this is a good time to set your house in the refrigerator.

When then decorated our house. You can follow our steps.

Use the frosting to stick a heart gummy to the front and back of the love shack.

Use the mini Starburst to make a path to the love shack by sticking them to the cake platter.

Frost your roof and tile it using the mini Starburst.

Fill in the triangles with frosting and coat with candy heart sprinkles.

Finally, use M&M’s for decorating the edges of the house.

Tips for Decorating your Gingerbread House

The easiest way is to make sure you allow enough time for the icing to set up on the graham cracker until hardened so your structure is sturdy before you start decorating with the candy pieces. It is important to follow the directions in the steps laid out above.

Also, if you decide to bake your own gingerbread house pieces, make sure you bake them on parchment paper. And mix up a royal icing recipe to use as the walls and roof will be heavier.

Another great tip! If you decide to bake your own walls and roof pieces, you can choose lighter colored walls by using light corn syrup and light brown sugar, or darker walls by using darker corn syrup and dark brown sugar.

FAQs

Are you supposed to eat a gingerbread house after you build it?

Definitely! That’s part of the fun. Knowing you can dig into the house all at once or enjoy a few pieces over time until the gingerbread house candy is gone. You can even start in on the gingerbread houses walls and eat those as well. These sweet treats are made to be consumed and contain only edible materials.

What do gingerbread houses symbolize?

Typically, they symbolize the Christmas holiday. Ginger was first used in making ginger snap cookies and these cookies began as a tool for artistic talent and creativity. They were decorated with icing and eventually candy. Over time the gingerbread house tradition was born. Thus, making the house something not only artistic and fun, but also delicious to eat.

Is a gingerbread house religious?

Today not so much. It is associated with the religious Christmas holiday and is used in holiday decor but is not necessarily a religious practice. In the early days of using gingerbread, it was used in religious ceremonies because it was a hardy, firm cookie. Over time it has changed and nowadays, it is quite normal to create gingerbread houses for all types of non-religious holidays. Valentine’s day houses and Halloween houses are also being created.

What is National Gingerbread House Day?

It is a holiday celebrated yearly on the 12th of December. This celebration is two-fold: because gingerbread houses go hand-in-hand with the winter months and because it is the best time of year to enjoy gingerbread house festivals, competitions, the Christmas Holiday and special family time.

Date Night Bucket List. Get organized with this full list of 25 unique date night ideas at home, out or even free date night ideas.

Okay, so honestly, a date night for me is in my PJs having all the kids down (and luckily my kids are on Babywise schedule, so that can be as early as 7:30 PM if we do the bedtime routine right!)

For my husband, however, a date night at home will not cut it. He has the desire to get out of the house. In his defense, we both put the computer down, eat a meal that isn’t prepared by us or warmed up in the microwave, and we go over many things we don’t get to discuss in the passing of day. You can see how we sometimes get around this with these free, cheap and memorable date night ideas (with a home full of kids.)

We have five kids, we both work well over 40 hours a week, and we both juggle a lot. We purposely have to carve out time and for us that is each Thursday evening.  This is a night we put everything aside. Even though we have made it a point to do this weekly, it still find us in the same routine. We go to the same restaurant, over and over… until the Date Night Bucket List!

Care.com Date Night Babysitter

When we moved from Florida to DC, we didn’t now a soul. I lived in Florida for 30+ year and always swore I would never hire a stranger on a website to watch my kids. Don’t you find when you swear something into existence the most, it just does the opposite. (For example, I always said my child wouldn’t never have a paci – all five did, wink!) Anyhoo, the best thing that happened to our family was our Nanny from Care.com. If you need a nanny or a babysitter for date nights with your spouse, be sure to check out Care.com. We are very pleased. You can interview the person, get recommendations and even do background checks including driving records if your sitter plans to drive!

Date Night Bucket List

We have a list of Date Night Bucket List Ideas to extend the excitement of your nights out with your spouse. In fact, in our bucket list we have 25 ideas! This would give you half a year of date night ideas if you go out weekly. Some of the ideas can even be combined if you find yourself going out less frequently. Galentine’s Day Ideas for your Girls Valentines’ Day

This post may contain affiliate links or ads. Read my privacy policy and disclosure policy here.

December 15, 2019 by Ashley at Frugal Coupon Living Filed Under: Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Social Media, Valentine's Day 3 Comments

Happy Valentines’ Day or Cynical Schmalentine’s Day! Whether you have a love or hate for February 14th, we have something creative and fun to look at the glass being half full in the middle of February – Galentine’s Day Ideas for your Girls’ Valentine’s Day celebration on February 13th!

Girls Valentine’s Day

Galentine's Day Ideas

If you ever wonder who is the queen of Galentine’s day the answer is Amy Poehler. Why? Well she is planted all over the internet with Galentines day quotes and memes. Even her quotes can be found on Galentine’s Day cards.

She is the queen, she is everyone’s G-Day queen (of hearts!)

What is Galentine’s Day?

“Galentine’s Day” is  Seasons 2, episode 16 of the American comedy television series Parks and Recreation. Fictional character, Leslie (Galentine queen, Amy Poehler) throws her annual “Galentine’s Day” party for her female friends, celebrated the day before Valentine’s Day. Since then, Galatines day has taken off being celebrated by girlfriends, BFFs, mom/daughters, and friends around the world. This celebration turns every sad  Schmalentine’s Day into a festive Girls’ Valentine’s Day celebration!

When is Galentines’s Day

Galentine’s Day is for the single lady and the taken lady. As shared above, Galentine’s Day is celebrated on February 13th. That leaves room for the girls who (dare) have a husband and/or boyfriend to still celebrate February 14th.

To further explain, this Galentine’s Day Quote form Leslie explains it best…

“Every February 13, my lady friends and I leave our husbands and our boyfriends at home, and we just come and kick it, breakfast-style. Ladies celebrating ladies.”

Have Galentine’s Day brunch, breakfast, or even a Girls Night Out. Just remember when you celebrate, just like our Galentine’s Queen, have waffles. In her quote …

“Friends, Waffles, Work or Waffles, Friends, Work. Doesn’t matter. Work is third!”

Bring. The. Waffles.

Valentine for Kids

I am all about the at home printable to make things simple for Valentines Day. When preparing Valentines for kids, I always look for a printable that pairs well with something I can pick up from Amazon or even my local grocery store. That is why we love our Popcorn Valentine, Sharpie Valentine for Teachers, and Goldfish Valentine.

What’s Up Pudding Cup Directions

Not too many directions and probably a very straight forward process.

First, print the valentines on cardstock

Second, lay your pudding cup over the gift tag, tracing the shape of the pudding cup to the gift tag. Cut out around outer edge.

Fill out each to and from before the next step.

Next, tape the valentines on top of each pudding cup.

We like to tie a spoon with twine or a ribbon to the back of the cup and tie a bow around the center of the cup (optional).

I would attach a piece of tape in the pack of the pudding cup to hold the twine/ribbon in place.

Gift your What’s Up Valentine Pudding Cup and enjoy!

DIY Valentine Wreath Crafts – Adorable Valentine’s Day Decor Ideas for Your Door.

Valentine Wreath Ideas

Nothing welcomes a guest more than the front door. The front door is the first impression visitors get to your home. While the inside might be quite chaotic (mine is), while every closet might be stuffed to the brim with “stuff” (mine are), a wreath states “I am merry, welcoming, and this house is festive and fun.” It truly can tell a false story and is the number one reason I swear by a holiday wreath on my door – false impressions.

Boy I sound like I carried some of Grinch with me over from Christmas! It really is my dry humor… read on…

Consider these Valentine’s Day Wreaths to be the Facebook post that gives the social media facade. My home is beautiful. My home is kept. Let me invite you into my home.
