What is Elf on the Shelf?

Elf on the Shelf is a Christmas Tradition. The tradition has a book and a elf doll. The book is poetic and in rhyme sharing the purpose of the Elf’s visits. The Elf visits each Thanksgiving. He/She goes and returns from the North Pole each evening. Every morning he can be found in a new location in the house. The Elf has been found in the refrigerator, fishing in the toilet, writing messages on the mirror or hanging from the lights. It is VERY IMPORTANT, the Elf is not touch each evening or his Christmas magic will be lost! Each family is able to name their special elf. The elves return to their home (Santa’s North Pole Work shop) every Christmas Eve. An Elf’s Story can also be found on DVD.

Elf on the Shelf had a Whoops! Make these Melted Snowman Cookies as a funny elf idea for your Christmas tradition. These cookies are great for Santa too!

Elf on the Shelf Ideas | Melted Snowman Cookies

We love bringing you new Elf on the Shelf Ideas. We also love sharing Christmas Food Crafts! That being said, we had to combine our two holiday loves into one – Elf on the Shelf Melted Snowman Cookies!

We wanted to make these cookies simple. We used refrigerated sugar cookie dough for our base. This is something to make with your kids, maybe cookies you use for Santa, or make them alone while the kids are in school. We made them alone since our kids still believe in Elf and then hid them that day. In the evening we took them out with a hair dryer as if Elf had melted the cookies. We used a Felt Letter Board to write the phrase – Whoops!

Melted Snowman Cookies Ingredients and Supplies:

  • Refrigerated sugar cookie dough

Frosting Ingredients:

  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup light corn syrup
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract

Decorating Ingredients:

  • Marshmallows
  • 1 cup light cocoa candy melts
  • 1 cup vanilla frosting
  • Orange food coloring
  • Miniature M&M’s

Materials:

  • Baking pan
  • Parchment paper
  • Mixing bowl
  • Spoon

These cookies are fun to make with the kids, but it might be a good idea to make them while they are at school and hide them so that you can make this cute little Elf on the Shelf vignette.

Melted Snowman Cookies Directions:

First, preheat your oven to 350 degrees and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

You will want to form the cookie dough into ping pong sized balls, press partially down and place on the baking sheet.

Bake the cookies for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are golden brown.

When your cookies are out of the oven, let them cool and mix together your frosting.

To make your frosting, combine your powdered sugar, milk, corn syrup and almond extract until creamy.

Pour your frosting in a decorating bag and cut a small tip off the end. Use the decorating bag to draw a wavy circle on the cookie and fill in with frosting.

In a microwave safe bowl, heat the light cocoa candy melts on 50% power for 2 to 3 minutes, stirring every 30 seconds until melted and poured into a decorating bag.

Also mix together 1 cup of vanilla frosting with orange food coloring and scoop into a decorating bag.

Use the brown and orange decorating bags to draw a face on the marshmallow.

For the snowman head, place the marshmallow onto the cookie towards the back of the cookie.

You will want buttons! Place two M&M’s onto the cookie in front of the marshmallow.

Use the brown decorating bag to draw stick arms on each side of the marshmallow.

Enjoy your Melted Snowman Cookies!

How to Trap Elf on the Shelf in the TV

We are back, so is the Elf! If you have been with us a long time, you know we have brought you a new Elf on the Shelf Ideas EVERY DAY (in November and December) for the past five years. For many of these idea, make sure you have an elf that can bend. You can do that easily with our Bendable Elf on the Shelf tutorial.

Supplies Needed:

  • Elf on the Shelf or Elf on the Shelf Boy Girl Set
  • Smart Television
  • YouTube App

How to Trap Elf on the Shelf in the TV!

You will need a Smart TV for this Elf on the Shelf Idea.  Your television will need to have the YouTube App. We searched on the app “Elf on the Shelf Caught in TV.”

The Video on YouTube You are looking for is Elf on the shelf – Boy – Trapped in the TV by Aaron Holm. This is a ten minute loop, so it is probably something you will set up right before the kids come down and then accidentally “turn” the channel before that 10 minute time comes up. I am not sure it will repeat over and over if you do not. I believe it will go to the next YouTube Video which might be an Elf on the Shelf video geared toward parents and not kids – meaning showing tricks and ideas!

Once you turn the channel, I would act shocked and go “oh no, where did the Elf go?” Then just play that you can’t find him and let your kids know that you “hope he returns tomorrow!”

Don’t forget that you can also trap Elf on the Shelf in your phone or trap Elf on the Shelf in your computer!

Speaking of chocolate, what if you incorporate these Reese’s pieces into a Elf on the Shelf Magic Shrinking Machine idea. Grab a small bag of Reese’s pieces (or use individual pieces) and grab a King Size Bar. Add both to the Magic Shrinking Machine.

You can also use chocolate chips, cookies, candy canes and more.

Santa’s Phone Number for Kids

Santa's Phone Number for Kids

Christmas is one of our favorite holidays. Our tree typically goes up before Thanksgiving. I say the longer that I (we) can enjoy the season, the better! I used to use this phone number with my girls, but as they have aged, this phone number is now becoming a Christmas Tradition for my boys.

Santa’s Phone Number for Kids

If you are looking to boost your kids Christmas spirit, dial this Phone Number for Santa. 951-262-3062. It’s a very festive message and allows your son/daughter to leave a message of their Christmas wish list for Santa. I have used access to this number as a reminder that I can call Santa whenever I need if my kids were misbehaving.

This is long distance call. Consult your cell or home phone plan on long distance charges. There is no charge from Santa’s house to call.

Share this phone number with others by pinning to your Pinterest Boards.

Elf on the Shelf!

In addition, don’t forget there are also other direct lines to Santa! One direct line we use is through our Elf on the Shelf, Dorothy. She visits Santa each evening and can report back our daily behavior. Sometimes she visits and does some very silly things. See all the ways our elf has visited with these Daily Elf on the Shelf Ideas (350 ideas and counting!)
