Whether you’re planning a first birthday, a spa party or anything in between, there are some basic steps that you’ll need to follow to make sure that the party goes off without a hitch.

DIY Low-cost party planner

Follow this birthday party list to help you plan a great event:

1. Pick a date and time for the party. You’ll want to make sure that you pick a day and time that works well for both you and your guests. Take into account things like work, school and other activities that might conflict with the party.

2. Choose a venue. Once you have a date and time set, it’s time to start thinking about where the party will be held. If you’re having a small party, your home might be the best option. But if you’re expecting a larger crowd, you’ll need to look into renting a space.

3. Send out invitations. Once you have all the details worked out, it’s time to let your guests know about the party. You can either hand-deliver the invitations or send them out via email or snail mail.

4. Plan the food and drinks. No party is complete without food and drinks! Start thinking about what you’ll serve your guests. If you’re on a budget, finger foods and simple appetizers are always a good option.

5. Choose decorations. Decorations are optional, but they can really help set the mood for the party. If you’re stuck for ideas, try doing a quick search online or looking through party supply stores.

6. Pick activities. Depending on the age of your guests, you’ll want to have some activities planned for the party. This could be anything from playing party games to watching a movie.

7. Get supplies. Once you have all the details worked out, it’s time to start shopping for party supplies. Make sure you get enough plates, cups, napkins, etc. for all of your guests.

8. Decorate. If you’re having the party at your home, now is the time to start decorating. Put up some streamers, balloons and other decorations to really get your guests into the party spirit.

9. Set up for the party. A few hours before the party is set to start, make sure everything is ready to go. Set out the food, drinks, plates, cups, etc. so that everything is easy to find.

10. Enjoy the party! The big day is finally here! Take a deep breath and enjoy yourself. After all, it’s your party!

pirate birthday party game ideas

One of the best parts of throwing a pirate party is the wide range of pirate themed party games that are available.

Here are some of our favorites:

1. Treasure hunt –  Set up a treasure hunt for your guests, complete with clues and hidden treasures. This is perfect for keeping kids entertained and engaged throughout the party. The treasure can vary according to the age group. A few ideas that would work for kids include chocolate coins, play jewels, eye patches, and pirate hats. Older guests will enjoy finding treasures such as mini rum bottles, gift cards, or silly pirate costume items.

2. Pin the patch on the pirate – This classic party game is always a hit with kids and adults alike. Print out a large picture of a pirate (or find one online) and cut out patches for each guest. Blindfold each player and have them try to pin the patch in the right spot.

Feel like everyone else is getting older but you are staying the same? We all are on the age train and as time goes back, our class reunion gets closer. High School Reunion Ideas including class reunion décor, high school reunion theme ideas and even class reunion memorial ideas for those that have gone before. Happy planning!

High School Reunion Ideas

High School Reunion Ideas, Decor, and Themes

Reunited and it feels so good…

I dare you to try to not sing that when talking about a high school reunion! Impossible. The song was always in the subconscious of my mind as I was planning this post. Whether celebrating your 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 or even 60th high school reunion, we have some of the best class reunion ideas to create a memorable night or weekend. High school reunion decorations, theme ideas, planning ideas, and even memorial ideas to remember those that have passed before.

We both are so excited ’cause we’re reunited, hey, hey!

What to do at a High School Reunion?

First, if you are wondering what to do at a high school reunion, it’s really nice to have ice breakers. You can use these Minute to Win it Games with directions and supply list or these Family Reunion games go well – because you know, we are like family!

More Class Reunion Games to Consider:

  • Adult Party Games (includes drinking and non-drinking games for adults)
  • Wine Party Drinking Games
  • Beer Party Drinking Games
  • Drinking Party Games
  • Graduation Party Games
  • Graduation Minute to Win it Games

Class Reunion Decorations

The reunion décor is everything. It is what brings the vent together, brings the initial visual excitement and bridges the gap of past to he present.

First, name sure you have a name tag for everyone. This High School Reunion Name Tag Template uses photos from the past so you can connect the look for X number of years ago to today! Comes in 10 to 60 years. These are great because the school photos allow you recognize the faces of your old friends – because some people never change… and honestly some people (just) do! Use the same faces for a slideshow.

Save money on décor by shopping at The Dollar Tree. The Magic of Ordinary Things purchased green floral foam and the shredded paper at the Dollar Tree. She got the IKEA pails for $0.79 each. (We found similar metal pails on Amazon.) All in all, for 20 custom centerpieces, she spent less than $40… less than $2 a piece! Customize with your own school colors.

Have a back in time display. For example, if your graduation year is 2000, have a back in 2000 and list the following…

  • Popular Songs
  • TV Shows
  • Films That Were Released
  • What Things Cost
  • Events in History
  • Winning Sports  Teams
  • Celebrities Who Were Born

You get also get a Back in the Year Digital Copy Flash Back here and turn it into a poster at a copy store like Staples.

Every high school reunion needs a photo booth!  This is a very easy photo booth and prop to share class reunion photos to social media. Just add a hashtag with the graduation year. | Idea Source Cindy at Flickr

This Dry Erase Photo Frame can be personalized to your event.

Also look at these High School Class Reunion Photo Booth Props. Hire an event photographer who can add all the photos digitally to a folder for everyone to share. Chances are you might have a graduate or a spouse of the graduate the do this. In fact, the better the photographer knows the reunion guests, the better the photos are likely to come out.

Play a game – Guess the name of these celebrity year book photos… then again, if you are crafty you could probably make your own poster and play this class reunion game with your old classmates (careful for hurt feelings!)

Balloons can be really affordable, the expense comes when you outsource the task. Grab your craftiest graduates and have them follow this easy Balloon Wall tutorial with your class colors.  This tried and true image comes from a Pinterest user and took about 2.5/3 hrs and 250 balloons.

This black, white and gold balloon garland has high ratings too. In includes Balloons garland strip to guide you on your balloon craft. I highly recommend getting 3M Command Brand hooks to hang your balloon garland.

High School Reunion Themes

It’s really easy to take your class reunion décor a certain direction if you have a reunion theme.

Make your high school reunion the theme for the decade you graduated or of your birthday. Great class reunion themes include an eighties party, nineties party or 21st century. Incorporate some of our Glow Theme Party Ideas or any of these fun Adult Drinking Games.

Your reunion might host many events on the schedule. How about incorporating an Adult Theme Prom for the evening. This is perfect those that wish to stay Forever Young! You could incorporate fun ideas like Prom Proposals. They could make a cute contest or fun photo props. | Source

Make your reunion, Holiday Theme. One of the best times of year to have a reunion is, ironically, not the end of the school year or over summer but rather over the holidays. People return home for the holidays to visit their parents and family. Incorporate some of these fun New Years Even Minute to Win it Games into your event. This keeps a cute new year theme if you are having a holiday class reunion.

If the idea of dressing up in theme is really annoying to your guests, have a theme that doesn’t require theme to purchase a themed outfit. A Casino Night allows people to dress up or down and gives people the perfect excuse to wear jeans or wear a tux like the 007 they think they are – wink. Casino Party Décor from Oriental Trading Company.

High School Reunion Planning

The planning is the hardest part! Some of these people you don’t remember, others cannot be motivated to help, because of their busy schedule (who isn’t busy?) Suggestions for class reunion planning might help you get others involved.

No one is going to hand write 1,000 invitations. Plus, do you have everyone’s email address? The best way to hand a class reunion is to create a high school reunion Facebook group. Once you do that, create a digital class reunion invitation.

  • Black and Gold Digital High School Reunion Invite
  • Banner Digital High School Reunion Invitation (personalize your colors)
  • Mascot High School Reunion Digital Invite

A Facebook group. This is where you get others involved. Began the group at least a a year in advance and map out your requests. Have a specific date (months in advance) you ask for people to drop photos. Another date ask for classmates to share a memory. Another date, have people tag a friend. The more engagement you get in the group, the more likely it is to come forward to people’s Facebook news feeds.

Plan a Class Reunion Checklist

Have no idea where to start? This class reunion checklist is great for the high school reunion planning committee. Download it, save it, check it as you go.

Eventbrite has a free class reunion software for your class reunion. Easily create a reunion website, manage registrations, and collect fees. In a survey, look at these results for reunion preferences voted on 2500 high school reunion attendees.

  • 94% like a reunion that serves alcohol, 6% prefer booze-free
  • 92% like to go big after the sun goes down, 9% prefer a day-time reunion
  • 89% like to see throwback videos and photos, 11% prefer not to see photos from the past
  • 84% prefer to keep it adults only, 16% want to make it kid-friendly
  • 83% want a casual reunion, 17% want a formal reunion
  • 75% want to open it up to former teachers, 22% want classmates only
  • 73% like to keep it toast-free, 27% want to hear speeches
  • 67% hope there’s a dance floor, 33% prefer the reunion to be dance free

Don’t forget to assign superlatives. These don’t have to be the same titles you gave in your high school yearbook. Biggest jock is no-longer cool. Try things like furthest traveled, most kids, married the longest, with their high school sweetheart, etc. You can even buy High School Reunion Trophies.

High School Reunion Awards

Possible class reunion superlatives include…

  • Farthest Traveled
  • Lives the Closest to the School (least distance traveled)
  • Married the Longest
  • Married High School Sweetheart (winner is the longest)
  • Most Eligible Bachelor
  • Most Eligible Bachelorette
  • Most Kids
  • Most Recent Baby
  • Parent the Longest (oldest child)
  • First Grandparents
  • Most Accomplished or Most or Highest Degrees
  • Never Left the School (became a teacher at the school!)
  • Most Interesting Job
  • Still the Same
  • Most Changed
  • Most Social Media Followers
  • Most Famous
  • First to Retire
  • Deserves the Most Honor (military members)
  • Hero Award
  • Beat the Odds (overcame the most obstacles)

Some of these reunion awards might not be clear. You can vote on on some of these at the start of the special event and award them later in the evening.

If that is too much work, these School Class Reunion Party Mug Shots work too! Hire an event photographer and if they use a digital camera, those images can be quickly added to a slide show running in the background.

Class Reunion Memorial Ideas

As you get further away from your graduation date, those that have passed will go up. Have a Class Reunion Memorial for those gone but not forgotten. This can be done wither with a banner, bow or tree of life remembered.

Using an old yearbook, copy photos of those that have died. Increase the size before copying. Cut out the photos and attach them to a memorial ribbon.  You can play this bow on a chair called the Empty Chair. | Source

The Empty Chair Poem for a Class Reunion

The Empty Chair

We gather here a class once more,

To reminiscence like years before.

Upon the days and joys we knew,

Before our school-aged time was through.

Yet before we meet with memories near,

We think of those always held dear.

Our friends and classmates passed away,

To be with God and enjoy their day.

Until that hour when we join again,

An empty chair we will maintain.

In honor of the life-long bond,

We forged with those now passed beyond.

The friends with whom we learned life’s truth,

Whose bonds lasted far from our youth.

And shall remain forever near,

When we gather from year to year.

Another idea is to have memorial tree of life. Using an old yearbook, copy photos of those that have died. Increase the size before copying. Cut out the photos and hang them from a tree branch to mimic a tree. | Source

Lastly, you can pick up these Memorial Luminaries of Deceased Classmates using old yearbook photos. Get flameless candles and add them inside white bags. Such a beautiful way to remember old friends – lost but not forgotten.

printable indoor scavenger hunt riddles for kids

Rainy days or summer heat slowing you down? Not anymore! Entertain the kids at home with a printable indoor scavenger hunt with clues. The kids will love it and you’ll have a great time helping guide them as they read each clue to solve the rhyming riddle.

Indoor Scavenger Hunt

Kids love scavenger hunts but not all scavenger hunts can be done without leaving the home. This one’s great indoors. It’s fast-paced, fun and only a little bit challenging. Kids get to discover a lot about their homes and utilize some teamwork as they race to solve clues and discover fun prizes.

Indoor treasure hunt for kids with rhyming riddles clue cards printable

How to Set Up a Kids Scavenger Hunt for Indoors

Scavenger hunts do not have to be challenging. If you have a printer, you can have your own treasure hunt with just the click of a print button. To get started, you’ll need to download you files and print them out on your color printer. To make the cards more sturdy, consider using cardstock if you have it on hand.

The next step is to prep for the scavenger hunt by cutting the clue cards apart, and deciding which cards you’ll use. You can just use the ones that work best for your home, use less to make the hunt easier for younger kids, or use all 20 to extend the fun. The printable set includes blank cards so you can custom the scavenger hunt for your family or occasion too!

Set out the clues in the order you want the kids to find them and keep the first clue to hand to the players when you explain the game. You’ll have the scavenger hunt list answer key, in case anyone gets stuck on a house clue.

Once you have everything ready, it’s time to start the fun!

How do you start a scavenger hunt?

Before you begin a scavenger hunt with clue cards, you need to hide each clue card. Do yourself a favor and write the number on the back of the card. You can also use the answer key we provided and keep the same order we already have. Once the cards are in order, hide them in the correct spots.  If a clue card reads

“A clock can tell time, a pencil can write. What utensil do you use, to take a really big bite?.”

That means the next clue card should be hidden in the utensil drawer.

Practice the scavenger hunt so you can make sure you did not make mistakes when setting it up.

To start a scavenger hunt at home, keep your first clue card. You can read it aloud to your children or hand it over to your the players to read themselves. At this point, the players are on their own as they begin the challenge. You can be there for support if they are stumped on one of the fun riddles.

What are some good scavenger hunt clues?

Good scavenger hunt clues are just a tad bit challenging. That means to you they may seem like easy clues (or very obvious), but you want your child to scream out the answer as if they were so excited to quickly get the clue puzzles correct.

Example clues for an indoor scavenger hunt include…

indoor treasure hunt riddle idea

You fill me up, then drain me when done. Adding lots of bubbles, always makes me more fun.

fun indoor scavenger hunt clues

I have a round knob and also a lock. Visitors and salesman may give me a knock.

at home scavenger hunt clue card

At this point, you might be tempted to stop. Keep going and look in the place at night you will plop.

All of these riddles are found inside our indoor scavenger hunt set.

What are some good scavenger hunt prizes?

While prizes are required, it certainly is fun to have a reward of some sort at the end of the scavenger hunt.  It can be as simple as screen time tickets or a fun snack you make together.

Some kids scavenger hunt treasures include…

  • Candy
  • Snacks
  • Screen Time
  • Money
  • Treasure Chest with Chocolate Gold Coins
  • Small Toys
  • Incentive Coupons
  • Gift Cards

You can hide a prize with each card or keep the big prize for the end of the treasure hunt with the last clue card.

What are some scavenger hunt variations?

If you are looking for some scavenger hunt ideas, try variations on how to play. One way to play is to have the kids work together in teams. This can be a lot of fun, especially if you make a rule that the first team to find all the clues, or the team with the most points at the end, wins a prize.

If you have younger children playing, you might want to consider having an adult or older kid help each team. This way everyone can join in on the fun, and no one feels left out.

Another variation is to have a time limit. This adds a bit of extra pressure and really gets the kids excited as they try to beat the clock.

If you want to play again, or use the same scavenger hunt clues for a different occasion, you can always mix up the order of the clues. This way, even if the kids remember where some of the clues were hidden, they’ll still have to search high and low to find them all as they have no idea what clue will be next.

Which every scavenger hunt idea you choose, have fun and make your day a great one!

Birthdays are special so it makes sense you’ll want to celebrate big. Take a look at these easy drinking game ideas for adults.

Fun Drinking Ideas

If you are looking for some common drinking game ideas, take a look at these fun ideas for adult parties.

Drunk Jenga

drunk jenga drinking game

Jenga is a classic game that’s perfect for a night of drinking. For Jenga drinking game block ideas, write down different tasks on each block before you build your tower and start playing. If you pull out a block with a task, you have to complete the task. Not all Jenga blocks need tasks but they can have them. Example ideas include

  • Guys drink
  • Girls drink
  • No one drink for 3 minutes
  • Take a group photo
  • Skip your next turn
  • Beards drink
  • You can no longer take pieces from the center of the rows
  • Rock paper scissors with the person to your left – loser drinks
  • Compliment someone
  • Reverse direction

You will need a Hasbro Jenga Game to do this idea.

Never Have I Ever

never have I ever drinking game

This is always a fun game to play when alcohol is involved. Players take turns making statements about things they’ve never done. If anyone in the group has done what you said, they drink. For example never have I ever statements include

  • Never have I ever been arrested.
  • Never have I ever stolen anything
  • Never have I ever called an ex when drunk
  • Never have I ever skinny dipped
  • Never have I ever cheated on someone
  • Never have I ever been on TV
  • Never have I ever lied about my age
  • Never have I ever spied on my neighbors
  • Never have I ever had more than one date in a day
  • Never have I ever forged my parents signature

Truth or Drink

truth or drink drinking game

Similar to truth or dare, only with alcohol. This is a fun do or drink game that gets everyone involved. To play, each person writes down 10 dares on small pieces of paper. Fold them up and put them in a hat. Players take turns drawing a dare from the hat and either completing the dare or taking a drink. Examples drinking game questions include…

  • Who are you most jealous of?
  • How much money is in your bank account?
  • Are you where you want to be in life?
  • What’s the longest you’ve gone without a shower?
  • Who broke up your last relationship?
  • What was your most embarrassing moment?
  • What’s the wildest thing you’ve ever done?
  • If you had 24 hours to live, what would you do?
  • What’s the last thing you searched on your phone?
  • Have you pretended to be sick to get out of plans?

The more outrageous the dares, the better!

Some parties are just better when planned ahead. What are some fun Drinking Games?

When you’re a college student, few things can compare to the excitement of a 21st birthday. And doing a few rounds of drinking games is always a blast. You’re finally turning the big 2-1, so it’s time to get the party started! These drinking games are perfect for your 21st birthday… or really any birthday beyond 21. They’re easy to play, don’t require too much setup and are sure to get everyone laughing.

fun drinking games for adults at a 21st birthday party

When putting these adult drinking ideas together we had a few ideas in mind… MAKE IT LOW-COST and MAKE IT UNIQUE! SO that is just want this is. Fun and unique party games that stray away from the tradition. Plus these drinking party games for adults won’t break the bank allowing you to spend money other places…like alcohol.

Best of all, you can easily adapt if you do not drink. The games are fun and silly and can easily be substituted with a non-alcoholic beverage… you promise the laughter will still ensue.

I’m Going to a Bar

To play this game, all you need is a group of people and some alcohol. Start by going around the circle and each person says, “I’m going to a bar and I’m going to buy…” then what drink they’re going to buy.

The next person does the same but adds their adult beverage to the list. Each person takes a turn as it goes around the circle. If you forget one of the drinks, you’re out.

The catch is, you can’t say the same drink twice. So, if someone says they’re going to buy a vodka and cranberry, the next person can’t say they’re buying a vodka and cranberry. The player is out. The last person left is the winner!

Cup Swap

To play this game, you need at least 4 people, cups, and some spoons. The players will hurry to scoop the cocktail into an empty cup using a spoon before the timer runs out. Whatever is left after the 1 minute timer goes off, they drink.

Prosecco Pong

This is a classic drinking game with a fun 21st birthday twist! You’ll need ping pong balls, enough cups to set up in the shape of a triangle for both teams, and prosecco. Teams take turns bouncing their ping pong ball into the other team’s pyramid of cups. Once the ball lands in a cup, the prosecco is drunk by the team who’s cup it landed in. The first team to eliminate all of the other team’s cups wins!

Adapt with beer or a non-drinking game option is to use empty cups and marshmallows as ping-pong balls.

Flip it or Sip it

Using a coin, players will take turns flipping the coin and calling out what side they think it will land on. If they’re right, the other player drinks. If they’re wrong, they drink. Simple as that!

Junk in the Trunk

In this fun minute to win it game, fill an empty tissue box with ping-pong balls. The fun doesn’t end there. Tie that box around a players waist and see if they can get all the balls out of the box in one minute. Might be fun to blast the tunes to Taylor Swift’s Shake it Off!

Defy Gravity

This balloon game see how long you can keep 3, 4, 5 balloons in there air. The participant that keeps the balloons up the longest is the winner. Keep adding balloons as you go.

Roll-On Buddy

This is a fun and silly game. It causes your guests to get on the floor. So if you are the host, make sure to give it a good cleaning before your guests and birthday guy or gal arrive. Players will roll an egg across the floor without using their hands. Noses only!

Medusa

In this traditional drinking game, Jell-O shots are a must! All the players get in a circle and look down. When they look up, you must make eye contact with a player. If you make eye contact with the same player who made eye contact with you, you yell “Medusa” and take a shot. Play until the shots are all gone.

Donut on a String

This fun kids game is even more fun when played with adults… and maybe a little alcohol. Tie donuts to a string and see if you can get your donut eaten the fastest. No hands!

Straight Face

Definitely add this game closer to the end of the night. It will be even harder to keep a straight face. In this verbal drinking game, everyone writes down a phrase on a piece of paper. It can be ridiculous, inappropriate or just outright silly. The player will draw a phrase from the pile and attempt to say the phrase without smiling, giggling or laughing.

Pass the Orange

This fun ice breaker game causes you to get up close and personal. Split players into two teams. Line up all players within the team. Starting with the first player, players must pass an orange on down the line. The trick is, the orange must be under your neck and no hands can be used. I hope you don’t prefer your personal space!

Donuts & Cocktail Sticks

If you thought the donut game on ta string was fun, try this fun activity. Pass donuts on down a line using cocktail sticks. Similar to pass the orange only adding a few other game supplies. See if your team can beat the opposing team in time.

Titanic

What did the Titanic do, sink! In this fun beer game, place an empty shot glass on top of beer sot hat it floats. Slowly add liquor into the shot glass. When the shot glass sinks, the player drinks it. This creates a DIY Irish Car Bomb and might be best played with Irish whiskey, Baileys Irish cream and Guinness.

Worm Search

This messy game brings you to childhood but is really fun! Hide a gummy worm (or more) in a whipped cream pie. On the start of go, players search their whipped cream pie and pull out gummy worms one by one. The player that gets the most in time, wins. Laughter guaranteed.

Bite the Bag

How low can you go? View this game as a twist on the limbo. Don’t worry, there’s no pole dancing in this fun activity. Start with a brown paper bag. The first round is easy. Players must bend over and pick it up with their mouth. Slowly cut the bag back and do the same thing – bend over and pick up the bag with your mouth. Continue the bag game and cut the bag back each round. See who can go the lowest when the brown bag is extra short.

Two Truths & A Lie

In this classic game, you share a little bit about yourself. It’s a great ice breaker drinking game. Each player will take a turn and tell three facts about themselves. Two facts are true, one is a lie. The rest of the players must try to guess your bluff or the lie.

Mrs. or Mr. Freeze

Declare a Mr, or Mrs. Freeze at the beginning of the night. When the mister or misses freezes, everyone in the room must freeze too. The last person to freeze, takes a sip of their drink or a shot. You can play this game all night long. I bet it gets harder as the night goes on!

Heads Up!

This game will only get worse as the night continues… Download the Heads Up App from Ellen DeGeneres to your cellphone. Hold the phone device to your forehead and try to discover the word you are holding up. Your teammates can give you hints like its’ an animal, it has 4 legs, it hibernates. You can also ask questions as you try to figure out the word before times up. Categories might be famous people, movies, TV shows, animals, and more.

Enjoy these adult birthday party games perfect for a 21st birthday party celebration or any ‘ole occasion!

Cheers to a great night!

Disclaimer: Extreme drinking can have terrible outcomes. Enjoy in moderation. Please drink responsibly. No drinking and driving. These games can be adapted to be used with no drinks or non-alcoholic beverages.
