A hostess will love these ideas for how to make your house smell good including our Holiday Rosemary Wreath Craft and Christmas Scents Essential Oils Blends.

Holiday Rosemary Wreath Craft

This Holiday Rosemary Wreath Craft is something that can be done in a matter of minutes. It can be done with small hands (by the help of mom) or as a DIY Christmas gift creating a creative way to make your house smell good this Christmas season.

How to Make Your House Smell Good

When our house was on the market in Florida, I got accused of having too many plugins in my home. I was told that it looked liked it masked a foul scent in the home (though that was not true.) I just love a scented home. In fact, scents take me to times and palces all the time, so I gravitate toward them for the rush of a deja vu moment.

There are many ways to make your house smell good. You can spent money on plug-ins, like I did when my house was on the market or you can adapt some of these Fresh smelling home tips.

First, a Holiday Simmer Pot. We shared this one with you last week. It’s great for when you are hosting and want the home to have an inviting smell.

Next, look at our Spring Cleaning Tips and Hacks. It doesn’t have to be spring to adapt some of these ideas. One idea I love is Pine-Sol in the toilet.

Of course, There are also Essential Oils. You can add a drop of essential oils to already existing potpourri, pine cones, or other absorbent items in your home or you can use an Essential Oil Diffuser and let the scent float into the air while it warms.

Of course, you can Hang fresh herbs. Herbal wreaths give a pleasant aroma. We our Holiday Rosemary Wreath Craft. We shaped Popsicle sticks into a star/snowflake and hung using a beautiful buffalo check ribbon. Supplies and directions listed below.

Christmas Scents Essential Oils Blends

Pumpkin Carving Tip!

Take a look at this Pumpkin Carving Tip. Did you know you can extend the life of your pumpkin with a few simple steps?

Jack-o’Lantern Preservation Steps:

  1. Hallow out your pumpkin making sure to remove as much of the stringy fibers and sizes on the inside as possible. A spoon helps well with this.
  2. Rinse your pumpkin out with water
  3. Carve your pumpkin
  4. In a 5 gallon bucket, mix 1 gallon part water to 3 teaspoons bleach. I recommend 3 gal to 1 tsp.’
  5. Dip your jack-o’-lantern in the solution for a full 2 to 3 minutes – your pumpkin will float, so be sure to dip it additionally with your hands to get it covered in solution.
  6. Dry off your pumpkin as much as possible to prevent rot.

This is great if you want to carve a pumpkin early.

Edible Halloween Candy Wreath Craft

Ridiculously easy, Edible Halloween Candy Wreath Craft.  In just a few minutes, gather your Halloween Candy and make this door wreath for Halloween and your trick-or-treaters!

Edible Halloween Candy Wreath

Edible Halloween Candy Wreath

We had fun with this Halloween craft. It’s an easy craft for even the most inexperienced crafter. Of course, that crafter would need to purchase a hot glue gun, if he/she doesn’t have one in the home. Then pick up a candy you won’t put entirely in your belly and start crafting your Halloween Candy Wreath.

Halloween Out of Candy Sign

Traditionally, on Halloween night my front door has our printable Out of Candy Halloween Sign after 9 pm. I guess, with this Halloween Wreath, I might never technically find myself out of candy. If you have this  wreath on your front door on Halloween night, consider this candy to be eaten after you open the door for the last trick-or-treater. It might not be one you can keep for a long time.

Sorry Out of Candy Free Printable Door Sign

Where to Buy a Halloween Candy Wreath

I am a work-at-home mom. So every craft actually takes a portion of my day and I calculate that time. If it isn’t something I am going to add to the website, then I add the hours the craft will take and how much I pay myself per hour (if I was working, over crafting.) If that time investment is too high, I buy. There, I admit it. I, Ashley, the owner of Frugal Coupon Living sometimes shops online more than she creates! I am sure other self-employed moms can relate!

So if making a Halloween Candy Wreath is not for you (maybe more candy would end up in your belly than on your front door), take a look at these places of Where to Buy a Halloween Candy Wreath.

  • Halloween Candy Wreath on Etsy
  • Halloween Candy Wreath on Grandin Road (not edible)

Halloween Candy Wreath Supplies

Halloween Candy Wreath Supplies

I like chocolate, so that was the direction I went for my wreath. Reese’s and KitKats. Yum. I would suggest keeping it inside, because… chocolate + heat = no bueno. You could make your wreath more colorful and incorporate things like Blow-Pops, Skittles, Air Heads, etc. This might be a wreath you can put outside.

For your Halloween Candy Wreath, you need these simple supplies…

  • 12” Cardboard wreath form (3/4” thickness)
  • Snack size KitKats
  • Snack size Reese’s
  • Black 1.5” Grosgrain ribbon
  • Hot glue/hot glue gun
  • Scissors

Frugal Tip: You can also make your wreath form from a cardboard shipping box.

Halloween Candy Wreath Directions

If this is a wreath your family will snack on, don’t make this wreath too far in advanced. Also, if placing the wreath outdoors, find a snack for appropriate weather. For example, chocolate might not be a good choice for Floridians!

First, lay your cardboard wreath flat on a table.

Next, cut fives pieces of ribbon into 12” pieces. Place the ends together and cut at an angle.

How to make a wreath form

Tie the five ribbons on the cardboard wreath in double knots. Space each piece out evenly from the other.

Begin by carefully gluing the Reese’s cups onto the cardboard until the wreath is full. (If you need permission, you may eat one piece of candy as you continue.)

How to Make a Candy Wreath

Next start gluing the KitKat’s on top of the Reese’s cups until your wreath looks full. (That was difficult. You may have two more pieces of candy.)

Lastly, loop a black piece of ribbon through the wreath and tie into a knot to hang on your door.

Mom Hack: All remaining candy is yours. Hide the left over candy in a bag of vegetables or another place the kids won’t touch.

These Baby Milestone Monthly Printables are adorable for photographing a baby’s age. Download this freebie for yourself or print as a shower gift with an 8×10 frame.

With all five of my kids, I have done monthly photos in a chair since they were born. In fact, just four months ago I took my last set of monthly photos for the twins – where does time go? It was shocking to me that I would no longer be taking one of these photos again.  I calculated how much I spent on these age stickers and decided I wanted to give you all a more frugal option for monthly milestones.

Baby Milestone Monthly Printables

We put together two sets of monthly printables for your baby – one pink and one blue so you can use it for your boy or girl. These printables are on 8.5 x 11 paper so you can frame each month in an 8×10 frame. You can print at home or send to Staples to save some money on ink. Staples in incredibly affordable, more on that below.

Shower Gift Idea

Find the most adorable 8×10 frame (I love this one) and gift these printables to a mother for a baby shower! You can have them made an an office store. When the mother is done with the frame for taking photos, she can use the frame for a picture of her baby’s first year.

When shopping for your Scout Elf, it’s important to know that the Original Elf on the Shelf comes with a book and box. That doesn’t mean you can’t have fun Elf antics with an imposter or impersonator!

The Original Elf on the Shelf company sells a Elf on the Shelf Boy and Girl Doll Plushee Set. This is great for younger kids. Sometimes these stuffed-animal like elves sit easier on shelves too!

There are similar traditional Elf dolls on Amazon, like this Red and White Stripe Elf and this soft Plushee Elf on the shelf boy and girl Elf – isn’t he a cute Santa’s helper?! This year we even got a Baby Elf to go with our Elf on the Shelf.

Follow the star, just like DaySpring has done with their similar Christian holiday tradition. Their Christmas Tradition is The Shepherd On the Search. This set comes with a shepherd boy doll and book.

Add a touch of greenery to your home with these ready-to-print free fern botanical prints.

Fern Botanical Printables

You know the Abba song Fernando? I know it, perhaps better than most. My father, Fernando, was born and raised in Cuba. He came to here as a young teen without his parents. A Peter Pan child with the new name American nick name of Fern (for short.) I think about my father’s journey often but I can never go too deep in my mind. It must have been incredibly scary leaving your home country, unable to speak a foreign language, and leaving home without your parents. If I put myself there, emotionally, I cannot handle it. I pull back in my head… anyone else a first generation American with a heroing account of their parents leaving their home country?

Now on to fern prints. I realize I got off topic. Ferns remind me of non other, my dad. These resilient plants are lush, beautiful and stand out. They grow best in tropical, moist climates or they can grow beautifully in your home with this freebie!  These fern prints are for your own use. I had a few spots in my home that needed some green and these prints were an excellent touch. Print them for your wall frame or print hem and use them on a bookshelf frame as an added pop of green.

Not many supplies are needed for this project.

Fern Botanical Printables Supplies:

  • Cardstock
  • Set of 3 fern botanical printables (see below)

You also will want some adorable frames. These are 8.5 x 11 vertical prints but can be trimmed to 8 x 10. I would recommend getting a nice farmhouse wooden frame or hanging them on letter size clipboards for a different look.

Delivery Christmas Sign for UPS, FedEx and USPS

I don’t know about you by the UPS, FedEx and USPS driver are at my door multiple times a week! During the Christmas season, their visits become even more often, as much as multiple times a day!

A few years ago I shared with you one of the most creative Random Acts of Kindness idea from Cara at The First Grade Parade – She is pretty awesome! It’s a great way to pay it forward to your UPS, FedEx or USPS drivers! She probably is one of the best Hand Lettering artists I know!

Since not many people are as talented as Cara when it comes to Hand Lettering, I wanted to share with you a free printable so you can do the same random act of kindness at your front door, even though you might lack the calligraphy talent!

Christmas Random Acts of Kindness Mailman, FedEx, USPS, UPS

I like to order my prints at Staples. It saves on ink and is only a few short miles from my home. I pick-up at the store, but of course you can upload them online and then have them shipped to your home.
