What is Elf on the Shelf?

Elf on the Shelf is a Christmas Tradition. The tradition has a book and a elf doll. The book is poetic and in rhyme sharing the purpose of the Elf’s visits. The Elf visits each Thanksgiving. He/She goes and returns from the North Pole each evening. Every morning he can be found in a new location in the house. The Elf has been found in the refrigerator, fishing in the toilet, writing messages on the mirror or hanging from the lights. Essential Oils Playdough Recipe

This Homemade Aromatherapy Play Dough is so fun. It is easy to make, leaves the skin soft and has many health benefits. Consider these oils – Lavender, Lemon, Peppermint, Grapefruit or Orange. You can also make fun blends like Vanilla Lime, Citrus (Orange, Lemon, and Grapefruit), Lemon Mint or Lavender Lemon.

Ingredients:

1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup salt
2 teaspoons cream of tartar
1 cup water
1.5 tablespoons vegetable oil (any kind of oil will work!)
Food coloring
6-8 drops of essential oils of your choice (see blends we share in the post)

Directions:

In a saucepan, stir the flour, salt, and cream of tartar together.
Add in the water, cooking oil, and food coloring and mix until smooth.
Turn on the heat to medium-low, and stir until the mixture forms a ball.
Once the mixture has reached play dough-consistency, remove it from the heat and allow it to cool for 3-4 minutes.
Knead in the essential oils of your choice. ( I poked a hole in the center, dropped in the oils and it mixed very easily)
Store in an air-tight container. (Storing it in the fridge will make it last even longer!)

Neapolitan Rice Krispie Treats

Neapolitan isn’t just for ice cream anymore! Indulge in these sweet Rice Krispie Treats that are layered with strawberry, chocolate and vanilla. The layers of flavor, crispy texture and the gooey marshmallow will keep you coming back for more! Not your average treat, these are so much better! Make a tower of them for a birthday party or wrap individually to take to a football game. Enjoy!

Ingredients:

12 cups Rice Krispies Cereal
6 cups Cocoa Krispies
9 tbs salted butter
12 cups miniature marshmallows
3 ounce box of powdered Strawberry Jell-O

Directions:

You’re going to make each layer of these bars in separate batches.
Coat an 8 x 11.5 baking pan with non stick cooking spray.
Melt 3 tbs butter in a large saucepan.
Add 4 cups mini marshmallows and stir constantly until melted.
Remove from heat.
Add 6 cups Rice Krispies cereal to the marshmallow mixture and stir until all the cereal is coated.
Turn that mixture into your greased baking dish and use a piece of wax paper to press the cereal mixture down firmly.
Wash and dry your large saucepan so you can start on your chocolate layer.
Melt 3 tbs butter in a large saucepan.
Add 4 cups mini marshmallows and stir constantly until melted.
Remove from heat.
Add 6 cups Cocoa Krispies cereal to the marshmallow mixture and stir until all the cereal is coated.
Turn that mixture on top of your vanilla layer and use a piece of wax paper to press the cereal mixture down firmly.
Wash and dry your large saucepan so you can start on your strawberry layer.
Melt 3 tbs butter in a large saucepan.
Add 4 cups mini marshmallows and stir constantly until melted.
Remove from heat.
Add your 3 oz box of Strawberry Jell-O and stir until it has melted into your marshmallow mixture.
Add 6 cups Rice Krispies cereal to the marshmallow mixture and stir until all the cereal is coated.
Turn that mixture on top of your chocolate layer and use a piece of wax paper to press the cereal mixture down firmly.
Allow your treats to cool completely before slicing and serving.
