What is Elf on the Shelf?

Elf on the Shelf is a Christmas Tradition. The tradition has a book and a elf doll. The book is poetic and in rhyme sharing the purpose of the Elf’s visits. The Elf visits each Thanksgiving. He/She goes and returns from the North Pole each evening. Every morning he can be found in a new location in the house. The Elf has been found in the refrigerator, fishing in the toilet, writing messages on the mirror or hanging from the lights. It is VERY IMPORTANT, the Elf is not touch each evening or his Christmas magic will be lost! Each family is able to name their special elf. The elves return to their home (Santa’s North Pole Work shop) every Christmas Eve. An Elf’s Story can also be found on DVD

For this idea, we used a Littlest Pet Shop Jet and of course a few Littlest Pet Shop Friends. Our little elf friend became a pilot with LPS animals.

I know it’s a bit early, but I wanted to start flooding you with Elf on the Shelf Ideas you can Pin to Pinterest so you are ready to roll one your little friends visits from the North Pole this Thanksgiving Season.

First, if you do not have an Elf on the Shelf (female version), NOW is the time to pick one up. Beginning Thanksgiving of every year, the Elf makes is appearance and keeps an eye on boys and girls young and old. Each morning he shows up somewhere in the house (sometimes doing something funny, mischievous or delivering a treat) and keeps and eye on the house reporting to Santa each night who will remain on the naughty and nice list!

Green Marshmallow Treat Monsters – Halloween Frankenstein Rice Krispies

Ingredients:

3 tbsp Butter
6 cups Rice Krispies Cereal
10 oz Marshmallows
Green Food Coloring
24 Candy eyes
12 Pretzels Sticks broken in half
1/2 cup Dark Cocoa or Black Candy Melting Chips
1/8 cup Red Candy Melting Chips

Directions:

In a medium to large saucepan, melt butter over low heat.
Add the marshmallows and stir until completely melted.
Stir in enough food coloring to make the marshmallows very green.
Remove from heat.
Add Rice Crispies cereal and stir until cereal is well coated.
Prepare a 9 x 9 pan by spraying with cooking spray or coating with butter.
Butter a spoon or your hands or use wax paper to press the mixture into the pan evenly.
After cooling, cut into rectangles or squares.
Heat Dark Candy Chips in small Bowl by microwaving for 30 seconds stirring and repeating until melted. Allow to cool for 2-3 minutes.
Dip top of Bar (hair) in melted dark candy move back and forth for good coverage. Shake off excess.
Lay on wax paper.
Push a pretzel half in each side to make arms.
Using a tootpick, gather up some of the melted candy and place on back of eye and put in place. Repeat for remaining eyes.
Let cool until chocolate has set.
Heat Red Candy Chips in small Bowl by microwaving for 30 seconds stirring and repeating until melted. Allow to cool for 2-3 minutes.
Transfer red chocolate to small plastic bag and clip very tiny piece of corner to use for piping.
Pipe mouths on each.
