With all five of my kids, I have done monthly photos in a chair since they were born. In fact, just four months ago I took my last set of monthly photos for the twins – where does time go? It was shocking to me that I would no longer be taking one of these photos again. I calculated how much I spent on these age stickers and decided I wanted to give you all a more frugal option for monthly milestones.

We put together two sets of monthly printables for your baby – one pink and one blue so you can use it for your boy or girl. These printables are on 8.5 x 11 paper so you can frame each month in an 8×10 frame. You can print at home or send to Staples to save some money on ink. Staples in incredibly affordable, more on that below.

Shower Gift Idea

Find the most adorable 8×10 frame (I love this one) and gift these printables to a mother for a baby shower! You can have them made an an office store. When the mother is done with the frame for taking photos, she can use the frame for a picture of her baby’s first year.

Being raised in the panhandle of Florida, the beach was always an hour away. Every weekend my parents and I would make the trek and enjoy a few sunsets on the coast before heading back home for the daily grind of Monday. All I really cared about was having a towel and a suit — the ocean provided all the rest. However, as I got older and continued this tradition with my kids, I picked up a few Beach Life Hacks along the way that I couldn’t do without now!

We blended two of our favorite posts Life Hacks and Beach Tips into one new post with unique ideas. These beach hacks will show you how to keep your drinks cold, what snacks are best for feeding hungry bellies in the heat, and the best way to keep the sand off of you by the end of the day. First, make sure you have the right cart or be prepared for a number of trips down to the shore. Because of it’s wide wheels and it’s ability to collapse, this is the best beach cart.

This might be the absolute best of these beach hacks! This hack was originally seen in our Beach Tips, but it’s worth sharing again. Carry a Rubbermaid Bin to the beach with all your toys, towels, and accessories. If you are in a quieter section of the beach, fill up the bucket and leave this bin by the showers, uncovered. The sun will warm the water. At the end of your beach day, bring the kids up to the bucket and wash them with soap in their own outdoor tub. This gives you clean kids (i.e., no sand) before putting them in the car! Before your car ride home, put all your dirty clothing and toys in the bin. You are welcome!

Prep your hair for your day of sun the beach way, or use this beauty hack for the beach any time you want! This DIY sea salt spray will make your hair look effortlessly wavy, the way it does after a long day by the ocean. It’s so easy, and you probably have all the ingredients at home already. (I see my typo – please “multiply” as needed!)

1 c warm water (warm dissolves the sea salt)
1 tsp sea salt (we like this brand)
1 tsp coconut oil
1 tsp conditioner (white conditioner is best!)
optional: 4 drops lime essential oil

An inflatable baby pool and umbrella will keep your baby cool and shaded on the sand. | Little and Lovely

Ever struggled to get your umbrella firmly planted in the sand? You need this trick. There are two tools you want for your umbrella to help it stay up all day long. First, you want an Umbrella Sand Anchor. This will help keep your umbrella stable, even with the sea breeze. Once your umbrella is up, back extra sand around the stand. Then wet it. Then pack more. The wet it…. and so on. You’ll also want this Hanging Hook Set. This keeps all of your stuff off the ground and out of the sand! Great for keys, sunglasses, phones, or any other items you need to protect.

While you’re freezing your water bottles to keep your food chilled, freeze your Capri Suns too. They’ll turn into the perfect slushies for the kids (and adults) and the perfect treat to enjoy on a hot day.

It’s easy to buy shovels, kites, float, and sandcastle buckets at the beach, but if you want to save money, I recommend buying those items from The Dollar Tree and bringing them with you to the beach. Stores at the beach are known for marking up their items. If you are not traveling by car, consider shipping your toys (from Amazon) to your beach house door!

Don’t want to spend at all? Use kitchen supplies you already have to create your own beach toys! 1.) Dish scrub brush 2.) Kitchen strainer 3.) Tupperware containers 4.) Cookie cutters 5.) Water pitcher 6.) Tub toys 7.) Kitchen Funnel | Raising Whasians

No matter how old my kids get, they’ve never not collected shells at the beach. We told you in our Beach Tips Post that mesh laundry bags are good for beach toys, but did you know they’re the perfect shell container too? I suggest one with a zipper. Keep the bag zipped and wash your shells out in the outdoor sink or shower. Once again, Once again, shop The Dollar Tree. | I Love Shelling

Beach carts are fun, but why spend extra if you’ve got a sled you can use? Yes, you read that right! Drag your heavier essentials through the sand on a regular winter sled. (Source)

Pack more food than you think you’ll need and thank me later. The sun, sand, and wind kick up an appetite, every time. Chips and cookies are great, but fruit is even more refreshing on a hot summer’s day. Try things like watermelon, grapes, and clementines/oranges. Tip: freeze your grapes! | Vegan Haven

Did you know a fitted sheet might be one of the best things you could carry to the beach? Don’t worry, we aren’t asking you to fold it. In fact, laying it out, upside down, will help keep (most) sand from blowing on your blanket. Anchor down the four corners with heavy objects like your cooler and beach bag. | Team Johnson

I have been trying to not share this idea with you again, but what can I say — it’s seriously one of the most magical beach hacks I’ve got. When your body is covered with sand, apply baby powder. It takes it right off. Works every time! Don’t want to break out the baby powder? Check out this sand removing mitt I found on Amazon! Such a neat tool.

Don’t get sand all over your drink. While it’s a nice reminder that you’re not at the office, it gets everywhere when you go to take a sip. Grab a drink spike!

Red Solo cup, I fill you up! Let’s have a party… Redneck Style!

One of my dearest friends had a party I was incredibly jealous not to attend. With her living thousands of miles (and a continent) away, I forgave her for the lack of an invite, but i told her to take many pictures so I could live vicariously through her photos. Not only did I get to scroll through endless digital photos, I gathered them together to share with you all so you too could enjoy the celebration – a Trailer Park Murder Mystery Party!

What is a Murder Mystery Party?

A murder mystery party is a themed game played with a large group of people. Party-goers are assigned roles, with one individual secretly playing a fictitious murderer, and the other attendees each providing a character to fit the theme. The attendees work together to solve who among them is the criminal while not getting murdered themselves!

For her guidance, she referred to Night of Mystery Trailer Park Tragedy. There she got printables, invites, and a list of character, descriptions and directions for completing her perfect murder mystery party.

I didn’t want to leave you all hanging. I know we are both feeling left out of this party of a life time, so to warm both of our redneck hearts, I gathered together some of the most creative White Trash Bash party ideas from around the web. Use these DIY decorations, tablescapes and recipes, and free printables (made by yours truly!)

Recipe for Disaster

This trailer park tragedy is a recipe for disaster. Let us all lift our Red Solo cup and offer a toast to finding the murderer! Cheers y’all!

Party Tip: If you are the host/hostess, do not become the main character or narrator. It is hard keeping track of food, drinks, talking with guests, and staying in character! It’s best to sit back and enjoy the fruits of your labor (prep) and enjoy the dinner show!

Home is where you park it! Welcome to the trailer park! Get ready for adorable party decor and trailer park party ideas.

Tuna fish cans, bean cans, and newspaper – they all make pretty centerpieces. Just add a tea light!

Hang a clothesline. We hand dyed these old clothes to make the perfect Trailer Park Clothesline. There were a few ways we made different items of clothing. First, we bleached old red and black boxer briefs. They held a little bit of the color but looked filthy and old once bleached. Second, we also took red clay (dirt) and rubbed them into white t-shirts, socks and fabric with rocks. Begin by wetting your fabrics. Then add the dirt. The rocks will help break down the fabric, cause some tears and really grind the dirt in the clothing. Lastly, we dyed some of the fabrics with Kool-Aid. It looks like something red was placed in a white wash. It also gave some of the fabrics a nice pink look! WE thought pink male underwear was perfect for our trailer park.

Make your own watering hole, I mean plastic barrel cooler using this 55 gallon Blue Plastic Drum. A few nails and 2x4s and you have your legs! | Katie Mayed

Speaking of coolers. Try to refrain from having garbage cans on the premise. Adding used plates and cans only adds more decoration to your lawn.

Brown kraft paper using for crafts or parcel helped make our outhouse door. Remember to keep that S in reverse! Amazon has a lot of funny toilet paper! (You can purchase an outhouse door cover here if you don’t want to make one.)

Every party has a pooper and this flower needed a pot. Problem solved using a toddler potty seat. (Normally these can be borrow from someone’s back yard – just look around the trailer park and leave a note!)

To make this beer box garland backdrop, we had hooks in our beam every foot. The beam is about 11 feet across. The beam to the bottom of the last box was about 6 feet, this allowed us to fit 4 boxes on the vertical rope. We weaved first box through the rope and tied near the top with a knot. We fed the rope through the second robe and added another knot. We continued this process with two more boxes for at total of four boxes per vertical rope. We took all our ropes and tied them to the horizontal rope about a foot apart. The hooks were helpful in giving us the exact amount of distance.

Every queen needs a handbag! Get 1.88 inch painters tape and write Gucci, Chanel, LV or whatever your designer brand. It could be kind of funny to do a very cheap brand anyways, like Old Navy or something already budget friendly.

When hosting a party, add a beautiful floral centerpiece. We find Vlasic pickles make a beautiful vase for flowers. Plus save money on the flower water because they already come with a pretty green water inside. Look for flowers in your neighbors yard instead of going to the store – those cost to much anyways.

Every Murder Mystery Party, needs a few accessories. Pick up these props and must have accessories for your Trailer Park Tragedy!

This inexpensive fire alarm meets most southern fire code inspections. With this Jiffy Pop Popcorn Fire Alarm, a reoccurring popping sounds goes off when a fire is present.

Chocolate Covered Pretzel Cigarettes

Ingredients

Scale

Pretzel sticks
10 oz package of red candy melts
10 oz package of white candy melts
Black food coloring
White sparkling sugar

Cook Mode Prevent your screen from going dark

Instructions

Pour your white candy melts into a microwave safe bowl. Place your bowl in the microwave heating for 30 second increments, stirring occasionally until melted.
Once melted, dip your pretzel sticks into the melted chocolate until it covered most of the stick. Lay on wax paper and let dry.
In a separate bowl, mix your white sparkling sugar with black food coloring. Add a little bit at a time and add as needed until you get the perfect color of ash.
Pour your red candy melts into another microwave safe bowl. Place your bowl in the microwave heating for 30 second increments, stirring occasionally until melted.
Once melted, dip the edge of your pretzel sticks into the melted chocolate.
Immediately place into the black sparkling sugar to give your pretzel some ash.
Lay on wax paper and let dry.

Okay, I have to confess. An hour-long episode Hoarders makes me way less anxious than just ten minutes of Tidying Up with Marie Kondo. It might be because Hoarders lets me be lazy and shocked while Tidying Up makes me think about all the organization I could be doing in my already sort-of-organized-but-not-quite house. Without diving too deep in the psychology of it all, both shows inspire me to get more clean and organized. I know I can’t be the only one searching for the best ways to keep my home functional and efficient, and I DEFINITELY know I’m not the only one on a budget.
