Parenting doesn’t come with a manual but this loving words for kids printable will help as a parent aide. Learn about your child’s love language and instantly download these words of encouragement for kids to build self esteem and intrinsic self affirmation.

20 loving and encouraging words for kids

While parenting is not linear and sometimes a + b does not always equal c, it is nice to have a guide to remind us how to parent well and how to parent form the heart.

The Five Love Languages

What are the Five Love Languages? Whether learning about the heart of a spouse or your kids, author Gary Chapman teaches us there are multiple ways to fill the loved tank of our family members. The “5 Love Languages include Words of Affirmation, Acts of Service, Receiving Gifts, Quality Time, and Physical Touch.  You can learn more about your love language, your spouses love language and your child’s love language by taking a Love Language Quiz.

Inside every child (and adult) there is an emotional love tank. Focusing on filling your child’s love tank allows them to find fulfillment in the home instead of looking for it elsewhere and in the wrong places. It is important that parents learn how to love children and that can easily be done with a prompt providing loving words of affirmation for kids.

20 words of encouragement for kids

What are some good words of encouragement for kids?

Wouldn’t it be great if parenting came with a manual? After five kids I still am trying to figure things out. Of course, each new age comes with challenges too, so just when you have things somewhat in a good flow, a hiccup occurs.

While, there is no parenting manual, we hope this loving words printable will be a visual reminder for encouraging your kids. I personally hung my words of encouragement printable in the medicine cabinet of my bathroom. This gives me a daily reminder of my tongue and how I can encourage children with words.

These encouraging words for kids include the following phrases…

Words of encouragement for kids

  • I love you!
  • I’m glad I’m your mom (or dad!)
  • My day isn’t complete without a hug from you.
  • I admire your hard work!

Children often want the simplest of things. They want to be loved, appreciated, and cared for. Through words of affirmation, you can show your children you love them, not only through actions, but by saying what they are longing to hear. Taking the time to voice your love builds strong, self-confident kids who know how to express their love to others.

Notice that these phrases above have I/my statements. In addition to making personal statements, try changing some of these phrases by replacing with alternative pronouns. Teach your children to have pride in themselves so sometimes their reward is intrinsic instead of external (form you.)

For example, try these replacement phrases to increase intrinsic motivation words of encouragement for kids…

Words of affirmation for kids

Try these messages of positive things to say to kids with these intrinsic self affirmation phrase.

  • Instead of “I’m proud of you” try “You should be proud!“
  • Instead of “I admire your hard work” try “You worked very hard to _____“
  • Instead of “You did great” try “You came up with a thoughtful solution and really nailed that math problem.“

Play with these sentences and try to change them a little by adding specific and descriptive comments to signal you have paid attention and you really care. See how your child’s self esteem grows and if your words are effective in promoting desired behaviors.

Discipline Through Words of Affirmation for Kids

While the word discipline and the phrase words of affirmation don’t seem to go hand and hand, it is possible to discipline your child through their love language. Our words of affirmation printable does not include discipline.  However, I do want to share with you a resource we use in our home. Don’t Make Me Count to Three by Ginger Hubbard.

Ginger Hubbard Don’t Make Me Count to Three

If you loved Gary Chapman’s The 5 Love Languages of Children, look at this book companion. In the book Don’t Make Me Count to Three, Ginger Hubbard encourages and equips moms to reach past the outward behavior of their children and dive deeply into the issues of the heart. Instead of feeling discouraged or angry, look at poor behavior as an opportunity to grow the word of God on your child’s heart.

discipline with heart book

Heads up, spankings are used in this book, so adapt what you want to your own parenting style. While I am a former teacher and have studied Conscious Discipline (no spanking) this book taught me a lot about tying my discipline to the heart and the word of God. In fact, I was missing the book a lot time and asked my husband where it was. It was in his backpack as he was reading it during his free time. I didn’t even prompt him to look at the book I had picked up on Amazon a few weeks prior.

Wise Words for Mom

Not into chapter books? I encourage you to pick up Wise Words for Moms. We have this hanging by our calendar in our Family Command Center.  You can use this companion without the book, it really is a must for using words of affirmation and scripture during discipline.

Wise Words for Moms is a calendar-sized chart, designed to aid you in using the Scriptures to drive out the foolishness that is bound up in the heart of [your] child (Proverbs 22:15). It is a tool for your personal research of the Bible for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training your children in righteousness.

Measure the diameter of your terracotta pot and resize the circle shape to match slightly smaller than the diameter of the top of the terracotta pot. (In this case, the circle shape is sized to 2.125”.)

Change the color of the lightest green pieces to pink and change the color of the circle shape to cream color. Move to the color sync tab to see all the pieces sorted by color.

Assembling the Paper Cactus Plant

Create a sharp fold on the cactus pieces along the score lines.

Group the similar sized pieces together to create a total of three separate cacti.

Start with the largest sized cactus pieces. Using a glue stick, glue the pieces together, sandwiching the prickly pieces between the other colors, alternating them as you go along.

Press the paper cactus sides together firmly.

Repeat with the smaller and medium sized cactus.

Allow your glued paper cactus plants to dry.

Assembling the 3D Potted Paper Cactus

First, place a dot of hot glue at the center bottom of your terracotta pot.

Lay the styrofoam ball inside the terracotta pot and let it settle on the glue dot.

Next, place a glue dot on top of the ball.

Cover the ball with the cream colored circle shape.

Lastly, attach the prepared 3-D cactus paper plants on top of the circle with hot glue and hold in place until glue sets.

Allow your final piece to dry.

Optional: Using a hot glue gun, on the flat surface of your potted plant, glue down sand and rocks.

Teacher Gift Idea – Because I Had a Teacher Book

This post may contain affiliate links or ads. Read my privacy policy and disclosure policy here.

May 20, 2020 by FCL Filed Under: Amazon, Online Shopping

published date: May 20, 2020

Are you looking for a gift for your child’s teacher that she will cherish forever? This is such a neat idea that teachers will just love.

Because I Had a Teacher is a heartwarming book that expresses why teachers are so important and how they impact their students’ lives. Here’s an excerpt:

Because I had a teacher, I have whole new worlds to explore.
I discovered that what I can imagine, I can make real.
And now I feel like I can do anything.
Because I had you, I learned to believe in me

Here’s how to turn this already sweet and touching book into something that your child’s teacher will never forget. Grab this book from Amazon, and then have the students in his or her class write something to her that starts with “Because I had a teacher”. For instance, my daughter is quite shy in class, but she’s really blossomed this year and has been much more outspoken. So, she could write, “Because I had a teacher, I’m not scared to talk in class anymore.” They can also say something related to what they’ve learned, like multiplication, division, words they’ve learned to spell, and more. The sky’s the limit!

This may be harder to do now that schools are doing everything online, but if you have class parents’ phone numbers or can get them from the school, perhaps you can meet up. I’m thinking about taking this around to all the kids’ houses in our class and having them write in it for our teacher. You could also work with a teacher when school starts back in the fall to get the kids to sign it then, and then they can give it to her as a welcome back to school gift.

This book is such a unique gift idea, and it’s something your child’s teacher will love and treasure forever.

Outdoor Toys & Games to Keep the Kids Busy

I’m trying to find fun new things for the kids to enjoy outside and spend more time in the sun now that they’re not going back to school this year. If you’ve been looking for something for your kids, too, we found some fun outdoor toys & games to keep the kids busy.

We have a disc swing like this Red Disc Swing. It’s so much fun, and my girls love it. I think they love that it doesn’t go straight like a regular swing, so they go in all different directions.

What’s more fun than playing with bubbles outside?? Kids can make huge bubbles with this Giant Bubble Wands Kit. The wands have a two handle design to make it easier to make big bubbles.

Cornhole is so much fun. Kids will have a blast trying to get the bean bags in the holes on this Bullseye Bounce Cornhole Game! This is one us adults can play with, too!

I loved seesaws when I was a kid. You can bring the fun to your own yard with this Pure Fun Rocker Kids Seesaw. This is perfect for us because we have kids the same size to play on this together!

Ring toss games are so much fun, and this Inflatable Cactus Ring Toss Game is awesome because you can play it in your yard or in the pool!

If you love playing frisbee, you’ll love these Activ Life Kid’s Flying Rings. They’re 80% lighter than standard flying discs and they fly straight. And, they glow in the dark, so you can play with them in the evening! They float in water, too, so they’re fun to use as pool and lake toys as well.

The Busy Mom Binder – A Family Command Center Printable!

The Busy Mom Binder. Thirty-five printable pages that will reorganize your home, your kids and you!  Consider this your family command center in one easy location, a 3-ring binder. Includes pages that can printed over and over to organize your weekly meal plans, cleaning, savings, grocery list, chore chart, notes for the baby sitter and more!

The Busy Mom Binder

I have been squatting on something. I have been so excited to share something new with you that I have been working on it (for what feels like) forever, I eventually finished with it and then I became too frozen to share.

Without further wait, here it is… The Busy Mom Binder!

This is a binder you won’t loose. It will be considered your home bible (lowercase).  The place that holds all your answers and resources. A binder that you can reference frequently or lead others to reference when they have questions. You guys, it took us out of the struggle. Away from survival mode and it turned me back in to the old me I once knew – an organized woman in her home, within her family, and within her life! The woman before five kids!

Before the binder began, my favorite Busy Mom Quote actually came from a man (laughing), Ed Wiley was my spirit animal because he summed my life, best.

It’s so true, you guys. I am not sure what “it” is, but I assure you that whatever it is, it WAS NOT getting done. After our fourth and fifth children were born (twins), it was survival mode. Their first birthday party was even a survival theme. The party wasn’t for them, it was for mom and dad (my husband and I). While we didn’t hold a second birthday party, year two had us surviving, as well.  Once they turned two, I felt like I began to re-organize my life… really, to reorganize our family’s life. Consider it my 2020 New Years Resolution (only I don’t typically make conscious resolutions.)

If succeeding at “it” is also something you want to do with one or one hundred kids, we have the perfect family organizer for your home. This organizer will help you achieve it, maybe not all of it, but a piece of it. The Busy Mom Planner includes organizers for the home, the family and even for mom.

Recommended Accessories for Your Binder:

There are a few optional accessories for your home organizer. You may want to laminate your toy bin labels. We have had this Scotch Brand Laminator for years and it has held up very well. I also used an Avery white 1.5 inch 3-ring binder with clear cover (in my video), though I would recommend a 1 inch.

Hey mama! You ready for the school bell? Whether you are welcoming the first day of school or not, chances are you child’s teacher is ready.

As a former teacher, I know teachers spend the entire summer getting ready for the next school year. While you are not in parent exhausted mode from forms and shopping first day of school supplies, be sure to save these Teacher Appreciation Printables and  Punny Teacher Gifts (with Printables.)  You don’t need to recognize your appreciation only on Teacher Appreciation Week. If you prepare ahead, they will be easy to “gift” throughout the year. I actually have kept a small basket in the foyer of our home and on occasion have sent my kids into school with a thoughtful gift idea just to say, “hey, thanks for teaching my child!” It also speaks volumes to your own child about the respect you have for their educator.
