Get those small hands crafting. These Dr. Seuss Activities for preschool create some of the cutest crafts for kids. Of course they can be applied to kindergarten, homeschool, and other aged children. From Cat in the Hat to the Lorax, let’s get ready to create some of the most adorable Dr. Seuss Crafts.

Dr. Seuss Activities for Preschool

While Arts & Crafts are often looked at as a fun preschool activity, they actually have huge importance on the development of preschoolers. Most arts and crafts activities consist of moving fingers and hands, developing fine motor skills, muscles strength and the improvement of control. They also include decision making and understanding the purpose of scissors, glue placement, shapes that come together to create a larger picture. Blending crafts can also take place with creating a love of early literacy using many popular and well-loved children’s books.

Who is Dr. Seuss?

Dr. Seuss is a famous writer and cartoonist who published over 60 Children’s books. He was born in 1904 and died in 1991, but with his death was not lost the enjoyment of his beloved books. Dr. Seuss books are a great way to introduce stories, new vocabulary and a little silly humor into the young minds of preschoolers.

Popular Dr. Seuss Books for Preschoolers

  • The Cat in the Hat

  • Green Eggs and Ham

  • Oh, The Places You’ll Go

  • How the Grinch Stole Christmas

  • One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish

  • Fox in Socks

  • The Lorax

Dr. Seuss Day

Dr. Seuss Day is every March 2nd. It’s Dr. Seuss’s Birthday but is also Read Across America Day, a nationwide reading celebration that takes place annually. During this date, preschools, schools and libraries honor the children’s author Dr. Seuss and the importance of early literacy.

Where to Buy Dr. Seuss Books Cheap

When looking for cheap Dr. Seuss books, there are a number of places to start. First, nothing is cheaper than free. You can find free Dr. Seuss books from the library and checking them on on loan. Return when you class is done with the readings. Another idea is putting a request out into the internet. A great place to look for used Dr. Seuss Books is in a local Buy Nothing Group. Facebook is a good place to start.

If you strike out at both the library and an online forum, try to locate used books at BetterWorldBooks. I suggest ordering well ahead of the date of your lesson. If you want new Dr. Seuss Books cheap, try Amazon but buy in a set (not individually.) This Dr. Seuss Beginner Book includes many of Dr. Seuss most popular books including…

    • Dr. Seuss’s The Cat in the Hat Comes Back
    • Dr. Seuss’s There’s a Wocket in My Pocket!
    • Dr. Seuss’s Oh Say Can You Say?
    • Dr. Seuss’s Please Try to Remember the First of Octember!
    • Robert Lopshire’s New Tricks I Can Do!

Memorial Crafts for Loved Ones

This post may contain affiliate links or ads. Read my privacy policy and disclosure policy here.

January 24, 2022 by Ashley at Frugal Coupon Living Filed Under: Crafts, Facebook, Instagram, Parenting, Pinterest, Social Media

Loosing family and friends can be hard, especially when children are involved. We pulled together some of the best Memorial Crafts for Loved Ones. Remembrance ideas for deceased including how to save a voicemail, children’s books about death, memory keepsakes, celebration of life ideas, and deceased loved one’s clothing ideas.

Warning, grab the tissues. This post had me in tears!

Memorial Ideas for Loved Ones

Very quickly an entire generation was gone in my family. It happens like that, right? One after another. Loosing grandparents my first introduction to how to cope with death. I first learned to cope with the passing of a family member in my 20s. However, in my 30s when I lost two more grandparents, I had to learn something new. How to teach my kids to deal with death of a loved one. It is much easier when you are coping with it on your own. It is more challenging when you are coping with deceased loved ones while comforting a child.

Do you believe in death from a broken heart? I do now. Below is a snippet of a story of my grandparents passing.

My grandfather died of a broken heart. Five months to the day of my grandmother’s death, my Pop entered hospice. He made it another 48 hours before his body surrendered to life on earth. In his last months of life, he would let anything that would get him see her sooner, take over. It did.  While his heart broke on earth with the death of his wife, I believe his heart is whole again entering heaven’s gates and embracing my grandmother….

Just a small anecdote of our past year. Loosing my grandmother and then loosing my grandfather a few months later. Through their passing, I have taught my older children how to grieve through memory keepsakes.

Memorial Crafts for Loved Ones

If you took are looking for suggestions for coping with loss, look at these Memorial Crafts for Loved Ones. From how to save a loved one’s voicemail, grief books for kids, to celebration of life ideas, we have a list of crafts and unique keepsakes to honor your deceased friends and family.

How to Save a Loved One’s Voicemail

First, the OCD in me wants a clean voicemail account. You too? Don’t. Save important and/or last voicemails of loved ones. My last one from my dad is so silly. He forgot to say I love you, so I am holding on to it and sending him to voicemail the next time he calls (winks!)

Memory items don’t have to be tangible. Very rarely are they able to be audible. The power of hearing a loved one’s voice can make a greater impact than keepsake photos, favorite clothing, or other mementos of a deceased loved one.

Follow these steps to save a loved one’s voicemail two ways. First, save their outgoing message (to people calling them.) Second, save the voice message they left you in your voicemail inbox.

How to Save a Loved One’s Outgoing Message

This option allows you to save your loved one’s voicemail inbox welcome message. The message they have to welcome those calling them when a voice mailbox is reached. Not the message they left you.

  1. First Go Here
  2. Enter your phone number and push get started.
  3. Enter your email and push make a call button.
  4. VMSave will call your number and record the outgoing message.
  5. Download your loved one’s voicemail as an MP3 file.

How to Save Voicemail of Deceased Family

This option allows you to save the recording you have in your own voicemail inbox of the message your deceased loved one left you. Even if you plan on saving your voicemail for ever, do this before it accidentally gets erased.

  1. Open your audio recording software on your PC/Mac. Be prepared to press record.
  2. Open your phone’s voicemail inbox.
  3. Go to your messages.
  4. Simultaneously press start (record or play) on your computer audio recorder and your voicemail inbox message.
  5. Immediately make sure your phone’s voice message is on speaker.
  6. Record your loved one’s voicemail as an audio file.

You can save your audio recording on your computer in in a back up location with a service like Google Drive or Amazon Cloud to save it forever.

How do I permanently save a voicemail? soundwave art with qr code

How do I permanently save a voicemail

There are other creative ways to permanently save a voicemail with soundwave art. A very unique memorial gift with voice recording is soundwave print with a QR code. The receiver can scan the QR code when they walk by it, hear their loved one’s voice at any time. You can purchase soundwave art with a QR code (we love this one from Adversity Gifts) or you can make your own soundwave art.

Instead of buying, want to do it on your own? Follow these steps for how to make soundwave art. Use a soundwave art app from your phone’s store.  Open your audio recording software and record a short message. Take a screenshot of your recorded waveform and download the screen shot. Open the image and edit it to make your own unique artwork. I find PicMonkey helpful for creating artwork with your own images.

I really think I have creative ideas but I don’t consider myself artistic… First, I lack time. Second, I lack follow-through. Third, I just have a large family. Other things come before crafting!

One item I can say that was VERY easy and CHEAP to make was a No Sew Fleece Tie Blanket.

This craft was also enjoyable for the kids. it was a unique way to give a handmade gift to grandparents – some of the grandparents who have everything! They didn’t have this. And the kids grow, so with my Photo Fleece Blanket, the photo can be adjusted to the current year. Grandma might end up with 18 years of blankets.

No Sew Fleece Blanket Instructions

The steps for making this blanket are simple. It was one of the easiest crafts I ever did. Plus, I don’t sew, so no machine was required!

No Sew Fleece Blanket Supplies

  • 1 square Fleece Blanket (60″ x 60″ is what I used)
  • 1 Additional Square Fleece Blanket (cut to the same size)
  • Scissors

Optional Supplies

  • Square 4″ x 4″ template or index card
  • Rotary Cutter
  • Measuring Tape

I like making the fleece blankets coordinating but not the same. I got a solid pink and a cupcake pattern. You can mix up prints too.

No Sew Fleece Blanket Directions

This is the best way to tie no sew fleece blanket together.

First, lay down your first square fleece

Second, lay your second square fleece lined up on top. Make sure all edges line up. Trim where needed.

Cut a 4 inch by 4 inch square on each corner. Use your template if needed.

Next, cut strips about every two finger lengths (an inch and a half – give or take) along the edges. Cut about 4 inches in length.

Once strips are cut along all 4 sides of the blanket, choose a corner. Tie the right bottom of one side with the left top strip of the other side of the blanket. Begin tying all strips in a double knot.

Repeat along all four edges/side until your no-sew fleece blanket is complete!

Ta-da! You are done with your easy No Sew Fleece Blanket. Makes a great gift!

Photo Fleece Blankets

This can also be done with photo blankets. We found a Photo Fleece Blanket Sale on Shutterfly, and followed the exact same steps when creating a blanket for my mom!

THIS is your Christmas Gift!.. and Mother’s Day… and Father’s Day… and so on!

A few things to keep in mind. Shutterfly blankets come in three sizes. 30 x 40, 40 x 60, and 60 x 80. So whichever blanket you order form Shutterfly, make sure your backing blanket is cut the same size. If you have a craft store do this, then you can ask them to cut it to size. Otherwise purchase it larger and when your Photo Fleece Blanket arrives in the mail, you cut down your backing blanket to size.

If you want to be detailed about your backing fabric, head to Fabric.com. There are some of the cutest Discounted Fleece Fabric Patterns on the website. Either find one that coordinates with your photo fleece blanket or mix it up and personalize something to your gift recipient (i.e. unicorns, gardening, astronomy, etc.)

Want to display kids artwork in your home but don’t want to spend a lot of money? Add a pop of color to your home’s décor! Learn how to create a fun & affordable kids artwork display gallery wall at home.

Colorful Kids Artwork Display Gallery Wall

As moms we want to encourage our kids to be creative and art is a great way to do that. Their drawings and paintings are priceless reminders of their age. I personally have found myself in a situation where year after year a stack of beautiful art projects were stacking in a pile. The keepsakes were too priceless to through away.

Do you find yourself also holding on to beautiful works of art from childhood? If you’re asking yourself what to do with your kids artwork, you’re going to love this creative way to make a kids artwork display. It will show off their talents, get rid of unnecessary clutter and be a source of pride for years to come.

How to Display Kids Artwork

This inexpensive DIY idea shows how to display your kids’ masterpieces in a fun way. Make this concept your own and enjoy the results for years to come. This would be a great project for parents with young children as well as older ones that need encouragement. Let them pick out some of their favorite art pieces, then use them in a wall art gallery.

Framing Kids Artwork

Here’s what you will need for supplies:

  • Inexpensive fames
  • Scissors for trimming
  • Corkboard & flat pushpins
  • Several examples of children’s art
  • Acrylic paint, optional
  • Foam paint brushes

I used discounted frames I found at Michael’s Craft Store. They had a great selection of colorful frames. Look for Belmont by Studio Décor®. Before I ordered my frames, I took a look at my children’s artwork and then I ordered picture frames based on the color of the art.

You can also acquire old frames and use a colored spray paint to create a beautiful gallery wall for your child’s artwork. With just a little creativity, you can begin to build your child’s art display.

Kids Art Display Instructions

To get started, find a place in your home that would be great to display your child’s drawings. I chose a corner in our house that needed some life and now it’s one of my favorites spots.

Measure the area you’re working with, then lay out the frames to make a pattern that you like and will fit nicely in your space.

how to make a kids artwork display

If you do not purchase already colored frames, choose which of your kids prints you’re going to use for each frame. Decide which frames, if any, you want to paint to match the art and for a fun pop of bright colors.

Lay out cardboard or wax paper to protect your surface. Remove the back and glass from your frames. Use the acrylic paint (or spray paint) to cover the frame edges. This is a good time to choose the colors that match your child’s artwork. Let the paint dry completely, then do a second coat to make sure there are no gaps in color.

While the frames are drying, measure the artwork using the glass or plexiglass. Place the art on the glass, making sure it’s centered how you want it, then use a pencil to trace the edges.

Trim the excess, and put the artwork together once the frame is dry. (The artwork will still look beautiful if trimmed!)

To make mini bulletin boards, use the glass to mark the corkboard, then trim it to size and insert it in the frame.

Once everything is put together, you’ll want to measure the space and mark lightly with a pencil where each frame will go.

Using a level, mark a small dot on the wall where each frame edge will sit.

Insert a pushpin in each mark, then attach the frame with a nail or screw set to hold it securely in place.

Framing Kids Artwork

Once everything is hung, add a few smaller pieces of artwork to the corkboard with colorful tacks or clothes pins.

Voila! You have your very own kids art gallery for all to enjoy!

Other Ideas for Displaying Artwork

If you like this display idea, but don’t want to use it for your own kids’ artwork, try making one with the artwork of famous artists. It would make for an interesting art gallery in your home, office or studio.

For a less permanent art display that can be changed out regularly, use a long piece of jute or other sturdy string with rustic clothespins to display art. Alternatively use curtain rods with hangers or clips. You can change out your child’s projects regularly.

Save kids artwork with this fun storage idea. You can even turn art work into a fun placemat or photo book from Shutterfly. Lastly, pick up ledges and lean frames against the wall. Rotate them around for a little bit of Feng Shui.

So many possibilities to make your kids’ artwork a piece of art in itself. Let’s get our children’s art work off the refrigerator door and try this cute DIY project.

This is such a fun and unique way to display kids artwork, I’m looking forward to decorating the rest of my little one’s walls with this! Your kid’s art display might become the next focal point for your easy and cute DIY home décor.
