Want to display kids artwork in your home but don’t want to spend a lot of money? Add a pop of color to your home’s décor! Learn how to create a fun & affordable kids artwork display gallery wall at home.

Colorful Kids Artwork Display Gallery Wall

As moms we want to encourage our kids to be creative and art is a great way to do that. Their drawings and paintings are priceless reminders of their age. I personally have found myself in a situation where year after year a stack of beautiful art projects were stacking in a pile. The keepsakes were too priceless to through away.

Do you find yourself also holding on to beautiful works of art from childhood? If you’re asking yourself what to do with your kids artwork, you’re going to love this creative way to make a kids artwork display. It will show off their talents, get rid of unnecessary clutter and be a source of pride for years to come.

How to Display Kids Artwork

This inexpensive DIY idea shows how to display your kids’ masterpieces in a fun way. Make this concept your own and enjoy the results for years to come. This would be a great project for parents with young children as well as older ones that need encouragement. Let them pick out some of their favorite art pieces, then use them in a wall art gallery.

Framing Kids Artwork

Here’s what you will need for supplies:

  • Inexpensive fames
  • Scissors for trimming
  • Corkboard & flat pushpins
  • Several examples of children’s art
  • Acrylic paint, optional
  • Foam paint brushes

I used discounted frames I found at Michael’s Craft Store. They had a great selection of colorful frames. Look for Belmont by Studio Décor®. Before I ordered my frames, I took a look at my children’s artwork and then I ordered picture frames based on the color of the art.

You can also acquire old frames and use a colored spray paint to create a beautiful gallery wall for your child’s artwork. With just a little creativity, you can begin to build your child’s art display.

Kids Art Display Instructions

To get started, find a place in your home that would be great to display your child’s drawings. I chose a corner in our house that needed some life and now it’s one of my favorites spots.

Measure the area you’re working with, then lay out the frames to make a pattern that you like and will fit nicely in your space.

how to make a kids artwork display

If you do not purchase already colored frames, choose which of your kids prints you’re going to use for each frame. Decide which frames, if any, you want to paint to match the art and for a fun pop of bright colors.

Lay out cardboard or wax paper to protect your surface. Remove the back and glass from your frames. Use the acrylic paint (or spray paint) to cover the frame edges. This is a good time to choose the colors that match your child’s artwork. Let the paint dry completely, then do a second coat to make sure there are no gaps in color.

While the frames are drying, measure the artwork using the glass or plexiglass. Place the art on the glass, making sure it’s centered how you want it, then use a pencil to trace the edges.

Trim the excess, and put the artwork together once the frame is dry. (The artwork will still look beautiful if trimmed!)

To make mini bulletin boards, use the glass to mark the corkboard, then trim it to size and insert it in the frame.

Once everything is put together, you’ll want to measure the space and mark lightly with a pencil where each frame will go.

Using a level, mark a small dot on the wall where each frame edge will sit.

Insert a pushpin in each mark, then attach the frame with a nail or screw set to hold it securely in place.

Once everything is hung, add a few smaller pieces of artwork to the corkboard with colorful tacks or clothes pins.

Voila! You have your very own kids art gallery for all to enjoy!

Other Ideas for Displaying Artwork

If you like this display idea, but don’t want to use it for your own kids’ artwork, try making one with the artwork of famous artists. It would make for an interesting art gallery in your home, office or studio.

For a less permanent art display that can be changed out regularly, use a long piece of jute or other sturdy string with rustic clothespins to display art. Alternatively use curtain rods with hangers or clips. You can change out your child’s projects regularly.

Save kids artwork with this fun storage idea. You can even turn art work into a fun placemat or photo book from Shutterfly. Lastly, pick up ledges and lean frames against the wall. Rotate them around for a little bit of Feng Shui.

So many possibilities to make your kids’ artwork a piece of art in itself. Let’s get our children’s art work off the refrigerator door and try this cute DIY project.

This is such a fun and unique way to display kids artwork, I’m looking forward to decorating the rest of my little one’s walls with this! Your kid’s art display might become the next focal point for your easy and cute DIY home décor.
