Make your own Zoo Animals Fingerprint Art with these step by step directions. Lions, Tigers, Snakes, Monkeys, and Giraffe step by step fingerprint animals thumbprint art tutorials.

Zoo Animals Fingerprint Art Tutorial for Kids

Are you looking for a quick and easy science lesson for kids? What about a fun craft activity for kids? How about a mix of both!?

If you are looking for a cute craft and activity for kids, why not quickly explore fingerprints while creating a bit of fun fingerprint animals with your child.

What animals have fingerprints?

Before you begin a fingerprint activity, make sure you know a little bit about the background of fingerprints. Fingerprints are the tiny ridges on the edge of a finger. They are essential the folds of skin that create a unique print to primates. In addition to human men, women, and children, there are a few animals that are closely related to homo sapiens (aka humans) that also include fingerprints on the tips of their hands. Gorillas, chimpanzees and koala bears have fingerprints that are almost identical to human ones.

Other animals have paw prints. Paw prints can come in set of three, four or five pawprints.

Extend the lesson with a microscope. Using an inkpad, put human fingerprints on paper and place the paper under the microscope. Study the ridge patterns and notice that each human print is unique!

Now that we have learned a little bit about fingerprints, let’s have fun with human fingerprint arts and crafts for kids…. of course, incorporating animals!

How to Make Fingerprint Animals

We have the cutest tutorial for you, Zoo Animals Fingerprint Art. This is a perfect rainy day activity for the littles. We included a tutorial for giraffes, lions, monkeys, snakes and tigers. Once you get the hang of these five zoo animals, you can likely create your own animals mimicking these easy tutorials – crocodiles, hedgehogs, skunks, elephants and more.

Enjoy your work of art!

Fingerprint Giraffe Art

Zoo Animals Fingerprint Art Giraffe Tutorial

  2. Above it, make a second thumbprint, slightly pointing down. This is the giraffe’s head.
  3. Connect the two with two long lines to form a neck with an orange sharpie marker.
  4. Add four long orange rectangle legs.
  5. Make a simple line for the tail at the end of the body.
  6. On top of the head, make two pointy ears.
  7. On either side of the ears, make the giraffe’s ossicones. These are the horns on top of the giraffe’s head.
  8. Add a little hair down the giraffe’s neck and on top of the head.
  9. Color in a bit of hair on the end of the giraffe’s tail.
  10. Make a smiling face for your giraffe!
  11. Cover your giraffe in brown spots.
  12. Using a gray marker, make hooves at the end of each foot with a simple rectangle shape.

DIY Bathroom Vanity Makeover with Behr Grey Paint

Looking for a weekend home renovation project? Transform your entire space with this bathroom remodel on a budget was under $50. Thrifty DIY Bathroom Vanity Makeover Tutorial plus the Best Grey Paint Colors form Behr.

DIY Bathroom Vanity Makeover

Bathroom Vanity Makeover Ideas on a Budget

Frugal times call for frugal measures. We have been crossing off our Older Home Improvement Renovations off one by one.  When we purchased this one, we had a bathroom that wasn’t very updated and I knew could be improved with a quick weekend project.

Our chalk paint vanity was slowly looking like a 100 year old farmhouse bathroom vanity. I don’t mean in the best way. I mean 100 year old in the sense that this bathroom needs some tender loving care. It was time to paint or replace the bathroom vanity. To save money, we dedicated a weekend to painting an old bathroom vanity.

Bathroom Vanity Makeover Before

Refinishing your bathroom vanity cabinets is a thrifty way to bring your entire bathroom to life. It can be done for under $50 with only a few essential supplies.

Bathroom Vanity Makeover Supplies

These are the supplies we had on hand before beginning our Bathroom Vanity Makeover.

Materials:

  • Vanity/Cabinet
  • Paint/Primer (we used Behr Marquee Flint Grey Paint)
  • 180-220 Grit sandpaper
  • Paint brush (Home Depot Best Seller Wooster 2 in. Paint Brush)
  • Vacuum
  •  Tack cloth
  • Screw driver/screw gun

When refinishing your bathroom vanity cabinets, also consider:

  • New cabinet hardware or hardware paint like Rust-Oleum All Surface Metallic Oil Rubbed Bronze Spray Paint and Primer in One.

The paint was about $35 and we actually had the rest of the bathroom makeover supplies. However, if you are in need of a some materials your will hit closer to the $50 threshold.

Refinishing Your Bathroom Vanity Cabinets

Follow these steps to update a bathroom vanity with paint.

First, clean your vanity/cabinet by scrubbing it with a sponge, dish soap and water and let dry.

Remove your cabinet doors, drawers and hardware with a screw driver or screw gun if you can. Label your doors and drawers do you know where they go.

Bathroom Vanity and Sand Paper

Sand your vanity/cabinet with the grain of the wood.

Vacuum dust and paint from sanding.

Use a tack cloth to wipe the vanity/cabinet.

What is a tack cloth? A tack cloth is a specialized type of loosely woven cheesecloth that is treated with a tacky material for wiping away dust and fine particles.

Tape around your edges. Tape near the counter top, walls, white trim baseboard and flooring.

Paint a primer on your cabinet (my cabinet was painted white prior so I skipped this step) and let dry overnight.

How to Remodel a Bathroom Vanity

Paint the doors and drawers on your cabinet and let dry. Then paint the rest of the cabinet. (My drawers were not removable, if yours are you can paint both at the same time) and let dry for at least 4 hours.

Paint a second coat on the doors, drawers and cabinet and let dry overnight.

Reattached the doors, drawers and add new hardware.  If you don’t want to buy new hardware, you can always re-paint the ones you had. A great hardware paint is Rust-Oleum All Surface Metallic Oil Rubbed Bronze Spray Paint and Primer in One (comes in many colors.)

Behr Grey Paint Colors

Take a look at the best Behr grey paint for bathrooms. For our bathroom makeover, we used Behr Flint Gray Paint, but there are many beautiful shades of gray for vanities, walls, etc.

Part of Behr 2020 Color Trends in the grey paint called Battleship Gray. The Behr 2020 Color Trends palette was inspired by natural elements such as sky, earth, water and plant life.

Best Gray Paint Colors

Looking for a warm gray, dark gray, a light gray? There are so many different shades of grey.

The Best Gray Paints from Behr

We found more popular gray paint colors from Behr. Paint your dinning room, living room, kitchen or renovate your bathroom in one weekend too!

  • Colonnade Gray
  • Dawn Gray
  • Dolphin Fin
  • Evaporation
  • Grey River Rock
  • Light French Gray
  • Pencil Sketch
  • Sawgrass
  • Seagull Gray
  • Still Gray

Grey or Gray

I felt a need to quick address this! You will see me use the two variations of gray and grey on this post. Gray is American spelling while Grey is British spelling. Depending on how Behr identified the color, was the version I picked up. Google will identify and interchange for you both colors when doing your own internet search.

Our Pinterest community and I would love to see how this worked out for you. Share your final bathroom vanity makeover or a space where you painted gray paint.  Leave a comment and/or add a photo here on Pinterest!

Do not forget our Older Home Improvement Hacks & DIY Renovations. We love this photo (below) from Joanna Gaines who had an older green bathroom that could not be painted or changed. A few touches and the bathroom is chic and enjoyable. Pin to Pinterest.

What is Elf on the Shelf?

Elf on the Shelf is a Christmas Tradition. The tradition has a book and a elf doll. The book is poetic and in rhyme sharing the purpose of the Elf’s visits. The Elf visits each Thanksgiving. He/She goes and returns from the North Pole each evening. Every morning he can be found in a new location in the house. The Elf has been found in the refrigerator, fishing in the toilet, writing messages on the mirror or hanging from the lights. It is VERY IMPORTANT, the Elf is not touch each evening or his Christmas magic will be lost! Each family is able to name their special elf. The elves return to their home (Santa’s North Pole Work shop) every Christmas Eve. An Elf’s Story can also be found on DVD.

These Truth or Dare Questions for Kids are sure to be the hit of the party! With 50 funny truth questions and 50 questions for dares, it’s the perfect balance of both! Not only is this a clean and family-friendly version of truth or dare, but this printable truth or dare card game makes for perfect fun at sleepovers, birthday parties, and even family game night, too! These fun truth or dare printable questions are going to bring loads of laughs and forever memories!

Printable Truth or Dare Card Game

I remember all the hours of fun that I spent with my family and friends playing truth or dare growing up. The questions were silly and fun, and they literally still bring a smile to my face when I think about them. This is why these 100 Clean Truth or Dare Questions are a MUST for any type of party with friends!

You can easily print out these questions and use them as a fun ice breaker during a sleepover or challenge the kids to step outside their comfort zone and try a few of the fun dares. Just be ready – you may find yourself getting pulled in to join the fun! Get your truths ready and live up to the challenge of the dares!

How do you play Truth or Dare?

The rules for truth or dare are plain and simple. The person whose turn it is to pick someone simply chooses someone who is playing and asks them, “Truth or Dare?” It’s totally up to the person being asked what they choose. (although most people in the room will be screaming for them to choose dare!)

If truth is chosen, a truth question is read from the printable card, and the person being asked must tell the truth. If a dare is selected, a dare is picked, and the person then has to do whatever is on the card.

The rules are simple. However, you can twist up the game with a few game variations including…

  • Have players alternate questions between truth and dare
  • Is your crew likely to chicken out of a dare, pick two dare cards at a tie and choose one. The discarded card goes back to the pile.
  • Use your blank template and print as many times as you want. Personalize the game by entering and adding your own questions to the pile. Stay within the rule – keep it clean!

But don’t worry, parents – it’s all in clean fun! Be sure to establish those rules early on.

A to Z Alphabet Scavenger Hunt

Download and enjoy this fun letter treasure hunt. Preschoolers & young readers race through the home/classroom as they discover objects that start with each letter of the alphabet in this cute alphabet scavenger hunt printable.

Alphabet Scavenger Hunt Printable for Toddlers

The alphabet is an important tool for learning to read and write. This alphabet scavenger hunt around the house (or classroom) is a fun way to help your child practice identifying letters from A to Z!

Letter Scavenger Hunt

Help your toddler and preschool child learn the alphabet a fun activity that not only uses review and repetition, but gets them moving!
To get started you’ll want to make sure that you’ve reviewed the alphabet and all 26 letters with your child previously so there’s no frustration with the activity- nothing slows learning more than boredom or confusion.

How to Play

The goal of this game is for your child to identify all 26 letters in the alphabet. For each letter, they will need to find an object that starts with that letter sound around the house.

Once they find the object, they will need to identify which letter of the alphabet the object starts with so you can write it down.
To make sure things go smoothly, you might want to make sure there are some special items laid out or on display for letters like X, Y, and Z that might be harder to find. Items like a yarn ball for Y or a zebra stuffed animal for Z work well.

If your child is younger and identifying objects by their starting letter is difficult, work as a team to talk about the objects. You can say the name of the item, sound out the first sound/letter, then have your child repeat it back to you. Ex. “T-t-truck. Tuh, tuh, truck starts with the letter T.”

For an advanced version for older kids or emergent readers, you can even set a timer or create a time limit. Make it a race between two kids and see who can do the letter treasure hunt the fastest and get the most letters correct. You can even award points of items that are not duplicates. For example, one person got a ball and one person got a baby for the letter B. The winner gets the most points.

When all 26 letters have been found and identified, review the objects and letters with your child again. You can even talk about what sound each letter makes and how that sound is different from other letters.

ABC Scavenger Hunt Ideas

If you need ideas for ABC objects around the home, take a look at this list of ideas for each letter of the alphabet.

Z: Zebra, Zipper, Zero, Zig-Zag

More Alphabet Ideas

For older learners, you can also use this opportunity to help your child practice their writing skills by having them trace the letters after finding the objects! You can include both uppercase letters and lowercase letters to trace.

Make a yummy lunch that features different letters of the alphabet such as ants on a log (celery, peanut butter, raisins), cheese and crackers, or animal crackers. Trader Joes has some fun graham cracker alphabet letter cookies. They are a perfect snack for letter recognition.

Get active with an alphabet hopscotch! Write down different letters on some construction paper or cardboard then lay them out in order on the ground. As you call out each letter, have your child hop on top of it.

Use post it notes. Label 26 post it notes, one with each letter of the alphabet. The kids have to go around the home or classroom and place one sticky note on an object that starts with that letter.

Have your child lay down on their stomach then call out different letters for them to find around the room and trace with their finger.
There are so many ways to play and learn with the alphabet- use your imagination!
