What is a Minute to Win It Challenge?

How to Play Minute to Win it Games

Each game requires 60 seconds. The goal of Minute to Win it, is to complete your challenge in under one minute and/or first. Before you begin your games, decide how you will create your teams/groups.

Invidudal vs Clock: In tis man verse clock setting, each player plays for their own score and points. This means games can be played over and over, many times. Make sure that have enough supplies in this setting. You can have one individual play a new game until they do not win one in 60 seconds or less. Or you can just rotate players each time.

Groups: Minute to Win it for groups is your traditional head to head challenge. Pair players to battle each other. In this setting, two players are trying to complete the same task, each with their own individual supplies. First to finish, wins. This works best when you have a handful of players, everyone rotates getting turns. Everyone might not play the same type of game.

Teams: Split larger groups into teams of two or give. Players alternate turns. Players assign a team member each round (new game.) In this setting, your team wants to finish first to be awarded the most points.

There are times where individuals might have to pair up into small teams. In that case, each invidudal player is assigned points for that game. This could offer fluidity, where on one game persona A and B are paired together and in an entirely new game, invidudal B and C are paired together.

How to Score Minute to Win it Games

Space Themed Party Games

Put the paly back in the party plan with low-cost entertainment and group games. Enjoy these seven space themed birthday party games including Star Light, Astronaut Challenge, Asteroid Crash, Alien Capture, Musical Planets, Planet Grabber and Space Pilot Practice.

Star Light

Choose two kids to be the Star Catchers. Have the other kids line up in two straight lines on opposite side of the playing area. One star catcher yells, “Star Light, Star Bright.” The other one yells, “How many stars are out tonight?” As soon as they say that, the other children try to run to the opposite line without getting tagged by the Star Catchers. The children who are tagged are out. As soon as all of the “stars” are caught, the game begins again.

Astronaut Challenge

Put candies or small prizes into a shoe box. Tape the edges shut. Wrap the box in many, many layers of wrapping paper, aluminum foil or newspaper. (Silver would be great!). Gather “astronaut gear” including some sort of hat, gloves, goggles and something to hold in each hand like a spatula or wooden spoon. One player has a pair of dice. When the timer starts, the player to the left of the child with the dice has to put on all of the astronaut gear and try to unwrap the astronaut box using only the tools. The other child is rolling the dice trying to get doubles. As soon as they roll doubles, they get to have a turn. The first player takes off all of the gear and the second player puts it on. The player to the right will then roll the dice and try and get a turn.

Asteroid Crash

Print off different “challenges” and roll them up inside of different colored balloons. Challenges could include things like: Jump 50 times on one foot, sing the alphabet backwards, etc. Turn on space music and tell all of the kids they have to keep the “asteroids” (balloons) from crashing to the floor. Stop the music and call out a color of balloon. The child holding that balloon pops the balloon and reads the challenge. If they complete the challenge successfully then they get a prize. Play again until every child has a prize.

Alien Capture

This game needs a willing older sibling or parent to help! Have them wear an alien mask and give them a bag of candy. Have several hula hoops around the yard. The alien runs around and the children try to lasso the alien by throwing the hula hoop onto them. To get released, the alien has to throw a handful of candy to the kids.

Musical Planets

This is a musical chairs game with a twist. Instead of chairs, set up balls that are sturdy enough for kids to sit on (one less than the number of kids playing). These are the planets. Have the kids walk around the balls while music is playing. When the music stops, All of the kids try to sit on a planet. The child who doesn’t get a planet to sit on is out of the game.

Planet Grabber

Put a hula hoop on the ground with balls inside of it (one less ball than the number of children). Play space themed music and have the kids walk in a circle around the hula hoop. When the music stops, all of the kids try and grab a “planet” (ball) from the hula hoop. The child without a ball is out for the next round. During the next round, remove another ball from the hula hoop.

Pilot Practice

Hang hula hoops from a tree (or ceiling) at varying heights with point values assigned to each hoop. Have each child make a paper airplane (or have some already made). Set a timer and see who can accumulate the most points by piloting their space shuttles through the hoops.

Follow these space game instructions to perfect your party or print a copy to have it accessible during your celebration.

Ideas for Putting Together a Sweet Sixteen Party

sweet 16 party ideas

A sweet sixteen party can be as simple or as lavish as you want it to be—the key is to make sure that your teenager feels like the star of the show on her big day.

Here are a few ideas to get you started:

Pick out the Decorations

Your teenager’s Sweet Sixteen is a big deal, so you want the decorations to reflect that. You can go with a simple theme like “16 and Fabulous” or get more specific with a Hollywood or Masquerade party theme.

Sweet 16 birthday party themes can include…

  • 80s Dance Party
  • White Themed Party
  • Sleepover Birthday Party
  • Spa Themed Party
  • Hollywood Birthday
  • Mardi Gras Birthday
  • Backyard Movie Night
  • Costume Party
  • Winter Wonderland Party
  • Masquerade Party
  • Glow in the Dark Party

Whatever you choose, be sure to incorporate your teenager’s favorite colors, things and style into the décor.

Choose the Food to Prepare or Order

For a Sweet Sixteen party, you’ll want to serve foods that are age-appropriate and will please a variety of palates. Consider adding some of the celebrant’s favorite foods. Fingers foods are great as you only touch what is picked-up. A dessert table or candy table is a must for teens!

Some basic food ideas include…

  • Pizza
  • Slider Burgers
  • Popcorn
  • Candy Station
  • Brownies
  • Cake Pops or Cupcakes
  • Chicken Fingers
  • Chips

Don’t forget to have fun and that means serving food that is also fun!

Choose a Location

The location of the birthday bash is important. You want it to be big enough to accommodate all the guests, but not so big that it feels empty. A house backyard or apartment is usually a good choice, but you can also rent out a community center or banquet hall.

When it comes to the lake, we know the one thing all lakes have in common… water! There are so many traditional water games that are great to share with the kiddos. Here’s a list of a few of our favorites you’ll want to give a try.

What are some good water games for the lake?

If you are looking for a list of fun water games for the lake, take a look at a few of these examples.

1. Marco Polo: This classic game is a great way to get everyone moving and enjoying the water. To play, one person is “it” and closes their eyes while counting to 20. This is a perfect pool game if you have one!

The other players swim around and yell “Marco” when they’re close to the person who is “it”. The goal is for the person who is “it” to tag another player. If they’re successful, that player becomes “it” for the next round.

2. Water Balloon Toss: This water game is perfect for a hot day! All you need is a water balloon for each player and a way to keep score.

To play, players stand in a line and toss the balloon to the person behind them. If the balloon pops, that player is out. The last person standing is the winner!

3. Duck, Duck, Goose: This game is a childhood favorite for a reason! To play, one person is “it” and walks around the circle of players tapping each person on the head while saying “duck”.

When they tap someone and say “goose”, that player must chase them around the circle. If the player who is “it” makes it all the way around without getting caught, they stay “it”! Make it a refreshing game by dumping a cup of water over their head when you say “goose”.

4. Cannon Ball / Belly Flop Contest: If you love a good challenge, who can make the biggest splash with their front end or back end might be a fun game. This funny game is especially great with some drunk dads that hate to loose.

Tips for Young Kids: Toddlers and young children do not have to stay up until midnight. You can still reenact a kid-friendly countdown just in a shorter period of time. For example, make the hour change every 10 mintues or 30 minutes based on when you start and want to end. Obviously, they have no idea of the real time. It can still be a memorable day and family tradition with earlier hours.

How to Play Charades

Charades can be played with any type of word or phrase. There are two sets of rules for charades games. You can play based on points or based on time.

Charades based on points

Split into two teams. On each teams turn, one person acts out a topic for their teammates to guess.  They cannot use any words. Use a clock to track the time, giving each person two to three minutes for their turn. If the team guesses the charade in a set amount of time, give the team one point. If they do not guess correctly, they get zero points added to their score. At the end of all the rounds, the team with the most points wins.

Charades based on time

Split into two teams. On each teams turn, one person acts out a topic for their teammates to guess.  They cannot use any words. Use a clock to track the time, giving each person two to three minutes for their turn. If the team guesses the charade in a set amount of time, at that time is added to their score.  If they do not guess correctly, the full time is added to their score. At the end of all the rounds, the team with the shortest time wins.
