How to Make An Easy Marshmallow Shooter

This July Fourth, make sure to add this Easy Marshmallow Shooter to your list of activities for the kids. This DIY Marshmallow Launcher combines a cup, a balloon and many laughs.

Easy Marshmallow Shooter

Marshmallow Shooters

For obvious reasons, the Fourth of July is always big in our home location of Washington, D.C. Since having the younger kids, however, we do not always get out together in the evening for the big fire works. One of us goes leaving the other home with the kids. It’s a balance as finding a babysitter on July 4th isn’t really an option.  Every time it is my turn to get out with the kids, I get tears in my eyes. Nothing makes you more patriotic than watching fireworks with the National Monument(s) in the background. The years that I stay home with the younger kids, however, the warm feeling of the holiday disappears. It’s just another “day.” To involve the younger kids this year, and still have some holiday fun at home, we created these Marshmallows Shooters.

Add this to your list of Summer Bucket Items and Upcycled Crafts. All it takes is a toilet paper roll, scrap paper and a balloon. Of course you will need marshmallows, use the extra marshmallows to create these Seasonal Rice Krispies Treats.

Marshmallow Launcher Supplies:

  • Toilet paper rolls
  • Scrapbook paper (we used red and white stripe)
  • Balloons (we used blue)
  • Rubber bands
  • Glue stick
  • Marshmallows

Each toilet paper roll and balloon makes one shooter.

DIY Easy Marshmallow Shooters

To create these shooters honestly takes a matter of minutes. The hardest part is getting the perfect cut of scrap paper and gluing it on the toilet paper roll!

Easy Marshmallow Shooter Directions:

First, cut the striped scrapbook paper to fit around the toilet paper roll and glue into place.

Tie a knot in the bottom of a balloon (not inflated).

Next, cut off the top (round part) off the balloon.

Wrap the open end of the balloon around the bottom of the toilet paper roll and secure with a rubber band.

To use, place a marshmallow in the shooter and pull the knotted end back. Let go of the balloon to shoot the marshmallow out.

Our Pinterest community and I  would love to see how this worked out for you. Share your final craft.  Leave a comment and/or add a photo here on Pinterest!

Firecracker Cookies Red White and Blue July 4th Recipe

Explosively yummy, Firecracker Cookies just like the classic Popsicle. This red, white, and blue Fourth of July Recipe is a tasty dessert for picnics, the pool, parties or just because. Best of all this summer dessert on a stick can be enjoyed while on the go.

Firecracker Cookies

Living Washington, DC..

Since moving to Washington, D.C. four years ago, the Fourth of July has taken on an entirely new meaning.  First of all, every time we drive past the monuments and historic sites, I tear up. I mean tears come down my face and I have to make sure not to find myself in conversation or I begin to sound incredibly silly not being able to get words out of my mouth. There is something about being on the ground our forefather’s walked on before. The area is full of pride. A lot of the pride is political and military, but D.C. is a huge melting pot. There is pride for every blend of person and every country. In my small neighborhood of about 12 families, half of the homes are filled with international citizens. We are all displaced people and find family in one another. It’s like nothing else I have ever experienced… it’s welcoming of each other’s differences. It’s blending of different foods and cultures.

The Fourth of July

I digress… back to July 4th… Clearly, this is an area where Independence Day is huge. There are parades, huge performances with top artists (in fact you might watch our country’s fire works and performers each year on PBS in front of the United States Capitol.) The publicized performance is topped off with fireworks over the mall. A large National Park where the Lincoln Memorial and Washington Monument are located. It’s majestic. It’s beautiful. It’s warning. We are so blessed to be in a country where red, white and blue speak more than colors on a pallets.

Firecracker Cookies

Wherever you are this July 4th, Memorial Day or Veterans Day, this cookie recipe is a must. Dessert on a stick doesn’t have to be limited to a a frozen treat! We blended together three cookies on a stick that look just like a classic Firecracker Popsicle, but, best of all, they don’t melt.

Firecracker Cookies Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 egg
  • 3 cups all purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Lemon, blue raspberry and cherry flavoring
  • Red and blue food coloring
  • Food safe craft sticks

Kids Baking Championship

The best thing to hit the television of our home has been Kid Baking Championship. If your kids have not seen it, turn it on. It’s a wholesome show about kids changing each other to the best tasting, self-created recipe. This show has become the best in our home because my kids have picked up a lot. I have been cooking less in the kitchen, while they pick up recipes on their own. My girls are being creative too. One day I was served sugar cookies (using a pre-made package) with lime buttermilk cream (all created on their own!) It was really good!

This Dessert on a Stick Recipe is easy for the kids and one you can step back from and focus on other Fourth of July recipes for your picnic or party.

22 Memorable Prom Tips for the Ultimate Night

Memorable Prom Tips – create the ultimate night with these tips from beauty, to decorations, etiquette, photos, style and more. Make it a night to remember, not to regret!

22 Memorable Prom Tips

Prom night can be one of the most fun and memorable events in your high school career. Make sure, on this night, you are bold and confident. It’s okay to go without a date. It’s okay to go with a date. It’s okay to do the asking, boys don’t always have to ask and why not be in charge of who you want to go to prom with? You can even make it a night to remember with your best girlfriends.

Have fun. Your biggest and best high school memories are going to be small moments. That doesn’t mean this big night can’t have smaller events. You aren’t going to remember the entire night but you will have a set of experiences that you file away and pull up later.  Do that sober and excited on juice, apple juice. Be confident, hold a smile, and when something goes wrong, embrace that moment, laugh, and move on. How you handle each smaller moment determines how the bigger night goes.

Are you worried about prom going off without a hitch? We got you covered!  While hiccups always happen, yes – expect the unexpected – we have tips and tricks to help you have the most memorable prom night.

Make it a night to remember, not to regret!

Keep that hair in place! Hold up that hair with this beauty hack. Spray your bobby pins with hair spray before placing them in your hair. This will help with the hold.

Don’t blow the budget. Save money when it comes to the makeup. Kara Larkin Llifestyle has a great list of professional vs drug store makeup swaps still giving you a million dollar look!

Chicks before…. ah forget it. Take photos with your besties. While a boyfriend or prom date might be temporary, many of the friendships will hold strong through the ages – from college, to weddings, to babies and more. Grab some photos with your best girl friends (without the guy!) Barefoot Blonde has an incredible, editorial friend-shoot for some prom photo inspiration! Photography by Stephanie Sunderland.

Hold them up.  No more pulling up on that strapless bra. A bra strap wrapped around your torso below your strapless bra will help keep your strapless bra in place and free from slipping! Genius. Thanks PureWow!

Don’t blink! Do your eye shadow before doing your foundation. Girl with Glam shows you how to make the most perfect winged eyeliner using tape – who would have guessed?! Practice a few times before the big night!

Talk with your hands. While a mani and pedi are nice, don’t break the bank on expensive acrylic nails. There are so many press on nails like these Ombre Glitter Press-On Nails under $5 from Forever21. There are 24 nails total, so just put a few extra in your purse should you loose one in the evening.

Walk on red; not the red carpet. Get designer looking shoes with red paint shoe bottom coat and restorer. I suggest stretching your shoes (see our tip below) and rubbing sandpaper to the bottoms (to prevent slippage) before painting them!

Get organized. Carry all that you need with help from the Anatomy of a Prom Clutch from My School Outfits. Have a perfume sample, your lipstick, safety pins, and blotting paper sheets!

Big girls don’t cry. Apply two coats of mascara. Layer waterproof mascara on top of your regular formula to make your mascara last longer. Our favorite mascara is L’Oreal Voluminous Mascara.

Dance in comfort. Get fancy with this bedazzled, glittery Converse tutorial from Love Maegan (website down)

Pin it correctly. Ladies, watch this video on how to properly pin a boutonniere from Snippet and Ink.

Pucker up! Go matte with your lipstick. Follow these steps from Beauty Tips for Her for making your lipstick last 8 hours. Powder is the trick!

The night sky. If you are in charge of the decor, a beautiful backdrop is a black felt curtain, string lights and star lanterns. (Source)

Say it with balloons. Grab balloons that announce the year. We love this friend-shoot from Seniorologie; it could be fun with the guys too! You can find numbered foiled balloons here.

Kissable lips. Gently to gently buff away flakes and hydrate lips with an exfoliating lip scrub. Having exfoliated lips will help keep your lipstick on prom night.

Don’t go hungry. Eat something and drink lots of water before going out for prom. If hosting a dinner night, finger food is good for snacking and keeping clothing clean. Consider this Epic Charcuterie and Cheese Board from Skinny Taste. The protein will be great before heading out the door!

Break in your shoes. Make sure to break in your shoes! Take a thick pair of socks, wear your new shoes, and use a hair dryer to blow on the tightest areas. Keep repeating until the shoes fit comfortably! Also rub sand paper on the sole of the shoe to prevent slipping on the dance floor!

Hide your money. Have your hands free and invest in this must have prom accessory: the garter purse. Hide extra money, your credit card, and even your phone!

Stay hydrated. Serve a party punch for the crew to sip while getting ready or taking photos. We love this recipe from Savor Home. Be sure to include a straw to protect lipstick!

Check it and forget it. Waiting until the last minute only ads stress. Take a look at the prom planning tips, from Sarah Jane. A to do list that goes as far as three months out!

Zits suck. Don’t let a pimple mountain ruin your night.  Blushing Basics gives you a step by step tutorial on how to conceal a zit. Don’t pop it, hide it!

Etiquette 101. Don’t shy away or be afraid to eat in front of your date. Going to a fancy dinner for the first time? Here is a diagram with some basic rules of etiquette for your your formal dinning.  Know which fork or spoon to use, which glass to pick up and how to pass the table and salt. (Source)

Toy Story from Frugal Coupon Living

It all started with the twins Toy Story Buzz and Woody Pajamas. From there the evolution of Hamm, Slinky Dog, Jessie, and Alien.  Alien Costume was purchased here. For the slinky dog, we bought dog ears, tail, a dog nose and paws. I also purchased brown pants and a brown shirt.  We wrapped a jump rope in aluminum foil for the slinky. For Hamm, we purchased pink pants, had a pink shirt, and purchased a pig kit with nose, tails and ears. My husband wore a Toy Story Shirt. I wore a Jessie shirt and purchased a cheap red cowgirl hat. I bought this bandanna kit earlier in the year for other reasons.

Hot Dog Easy Beef Kabobs. Disclosure: This post is sponsored by Tyson Foods, Inc. All opinions and the recipe are my own.

Hot Dog Easy Beef Kabobs

Cooking for five kids can be a challenge. Quantity is obviously quite difficult, but even more difficult is matching everyone’s taste buds. Because my kids all have different desires when it comes to dinner, I love kabobs. Kabobs are perfect for personalizing a recipe. One kids doesn’t prefer fruit, while another child wants a skewer loaded up with veggies (yes, I have a kid that loves their vegetables!)

In prep for a summer BBQ, we came up with an easy and tasty grilling kabob to satisfy the taste buds of your kids (and spouse!) This recipe is not only perfect for the home or a seasonal celebration, but add it to your stash of Camping Recipes for your next adventure to the great outdoors!

bamboo skewers grilling hack

Bamboo Skewers Tip: Did you know? Soak your bamboo skewers in a container of water, 30 minutes to 24 hours, before adding your food. This helps the skewer not get burnt when it’s on the grill! Good the food, not the skewer!

Love to entertain?

Sam’s Club sells a great variety of Tyson products, perfect for summer grilling, including the Ball Park® Beef Franks we used in our summer kabob recipe. Also pick up their Hillshire® Smoked Sausage and Tyson® Boneless Skinless Chicken Breasts. Stocking up at Sam’s Club on the club pack sizes makes preparing for warm weather grilling so much easier!

Hot Dog Easy Beef Kabobs Ingredients

Hot Dog Kabobs Ingredients:

  • Ball Park Beef Franks
  • Fresh pineapple rings or cubes

Easy Instant Pot Mac & Cheese with Ground Beef. Creamy, delicious macaroni and with added protein! Perfect for the kids on an adult only’s date night or for your next easy family dinner recipe.

Instant Pot Mac & Cheese

The biggest gift my husband has given our marriage is the desire to go on a date each week. That gift is not always appreciated each week. I struggle to get out of my workout clothes, get my hair brushed and have the kids ready for a sitter. I get his desire, but his passion for weekly date nights can be really hard on my evenings. I mean, a nice dinner and a glass of wine might sound lovely to many, but the bed and a white noise machine is usually my desire at 8 PM each evening. I digress…

To help my evenings, and to help put me in the right place of mind for my upcoming date, I really try hard to make dinner easy for me (and the kids). Normally that is boxed macaroni and cheese but I always have guilt when this is the gourmet meal being presented before my kids.

This Instant Pot Mac & Cheese is almost as easy as your favorite Kraft Mac & Cheese box, only it also incorporates ground beef giving your kids some added protein and you the peace of mind of having put in a little extra effort (only a little, though, we have to keep it easy!) Let us know how this meal goes for your next date night or perhaps as your next meal as a family dinner recipe.

Enjoy!
