Do you find yourself in a school year rut? Have a great start to the back to school season with these lunch and snack prep essentials. Download a weekly school lunch planner, printable lunch notes, and a list of healthy lunchbox ideas for kids. Enjoy!

School Lunch Planner

If the end of last school year taught me anything, I taught me to plan our meals. Meats were out of stock, I was ordering groceries online and in order to not waste food or to have enough of what we like, I had to plan our meals. It is not that I didn’t plan before, but I was able to spread our food out and use it for the best purpose. I felt like a pioneer woman on a home school prairie.

I am taking that meal planning a step further as we head back to school with a weekly lunchbox planner. This will allow me to assign food to days before it goes bad, for me to pack non perishable food ahead and for me to use all the foods we have before opening something new.

School Meal Planning List

Included in our School Lunch Planner are…

  • Pantry Inventory List
  • Shopping List
  • Prepping List
  • Notes List

Each day is also listed Monday to Friday and includes what to pack for snacks and lunch.

Baking Conversion Chart Printable PDF

Need a Kitchen Cheat Sheet? We have a perfect Baking Conversion Chart Printable with both Volume Conversion and a Temperature Conversion Formula which is displayed beautifully as Kitchen Printable Wall Art or resourceful in your Recipe Binder for easy access.

Baking Conversion Chart

One of our most loved posts is Baking Hacks and Tips. Because this post is so frequented, we had to find a resource that was perfect for it’s visitors. Thus, I created this Baking Conversions Printable Chart for you to instantly download and save to your 8.5 x 11 Recipe Binder or hang on your kitchen wall.

Baking Conversions

Quarts, pints, cups, ounces, milliliter, tablespoons, teaspoons – it’s all Greek (measurements) to me. Is the baking drawer your toddler’s favorite kitchen drawer?  Seriously, I am always missing a baking tool or two! Lost to the toy box gods (small g – wink.) Because of this, I am always having to adjust how I measure my baking ingredients.

If this is the same story for you, this baking conversion chart PDF will be your best friend. You can even frame it and display it as decorative, yet effective kitchen printable wall art.

Temperature Conversion Formula

Is converting from the metric to customary temperature measurement (and visa versa) a challenge? Did you know that most people just add or subtract 32 to get from Celsius to Fahrenheit and don’t get a precise conversion? The Celsius to Fahrenheit conversion formula is actually a little more complicated than that.

Look at these Conversion Formulas for temperature, to get an exact number.

Celsius to Fahrenheit Conversion Formula

F = (C × 1.8) + 32

Fahrenheit to Celsius Conversion Formula

C = (F – 32) x 0.5556

But don’t worry, this is not middle school math. You don’t have to remember that. We have the Temperature Conversion Formula on our Baking Conversion Cheat Sheet Printable PDF.

Baking Conversions Printable

Want to access our Baking Conversions Printable?! We have two options for you. You can instantly download the Baking Conversion Printable alone or you can get a set of three and add in the Instant Pot, Air Fryer, and Baking Conversion Chart in one happy bundle.

I was listening to podcasts for the longest time, and I got tired of the same old story. Self help, current events, murder mysteries, and they were just too much. I was ready for fiction and narratives. Below are books I have been reading over the past three months. There are some good ones, enjoy and be sure to share your favorites too!

Sorry I don’t share this often, but recommended books never expire – right? Can you tell I had a baby in 2016 and two more in 2017 – a little bit too busy to read! – Haha. Honestly,I have been reading but I have mixed in a lot of podcasts because they are short and easier to interrupt than a book.

My Current Audible Reads January 2020

The Orphan Keeper

I really enjoyed this book because of my India Trip. An inspiring, true story about a boy adopted into the United States but unable to share (via his language barrier), he isn’t an orphan but rather kidnapped off the streets.

Seven-year-old Chellamuthu’s life – and his destiny – is forever changed when he is kidnapped from his village in Southern India and sold to the Lincoln Home for Homeless Children. His family is desperate to find him, and Chellamuthu anxiously tells the Indian orphanage that he is not an orphan, he has a mother who loves him. But he is told not to worry, he will soon be adopted by a loving family in America.

The Tattooist of Auschwitz

I am not going to lie. I think I know a fair amount about the Holocaust but this book was particularly hard. It really brought forth a deep empathy and sadness of what the survivors experienced. Also based on a true story.

…A vivid, harrowing, and ultimately hopeful recreation of Lale Sokolov’s experiences as the man who tattooed the arms of thousands of prisoners with what would become one of the most potent symbols of the Holocaust, The Tattooist of Auschwitz is also a testament to the endurance of love and humanity under the darkest possible conditions.

Cilka’s Journey

Because I wanted to know more about one of the characters in The Tattooist of Auschwitz, I followed up my read with this novel. By the end, I was really broken and sad about what I was reading. I recommend both but maybe a short light-hearted break in between.

Cilka is just 16-years-old when she is taken to Auschwitz-Birkenau Concentration Camp in 1942, where the commandant immediately notices how beautiful she is. Forcibly separated from the other women prisoners, Cilka learns quickly that power, even unwillingly taken, equals survival. When the war is over and the camp is liberated, freedom is not granted to Cilka: She is charged as a collaborator for sleeping with the enemy and sent to a Siberian prison camp. But did she really have a choice? And where do the lines of morality lie for Cilka, who was sent to Auschwitz when she was still a child?…

The Lost Girls of Paris

About females in France during WWII who were spies for the British. Their journey then and into present day and how it affected generations ahead.

…Vividly rendered and inspired by true events, New York Times best-selling author Pam Jenoff shines a light on the incredible heroics of the brave women of the war and weaves a mesmerizing tale of courage, sisterhood, and the great strength of women to survive in the hardest of circumstances.

Pachinko

I really enjoyed this book. It really made me learn more about both Korean and Japanese culture through the eyes of three generations. The story continued to evolve so you never bore of just one character or story.

Profoundly moving and gracefully told, Pachinko follows one Korean family through the generations, beginning in early 1900s Korea with Sunja, the prized daughter of a poor yet proud family, whose unplanned pregnancy threatens to shame them. Betrayed by her wealthy lover, Sunja finds unexpected salvation when a young tubercular minister offers to marry her and bring her to Japan to start a new life.

The Other Daughter

Interesting read. No regret for reading this but I struggle to recall the story and the ending. Because of that, I admit it didn’t leave an impression on me but I never felt a need to not finish the book and it was the book that I read before the others listed above – so many reads in between!

Raised in a poor yet genteel household, Rachel Woodley is working in France as a governess when she receives news that her mother has died suddenly. Grief stricken, she returns to the small town in England where she was raised to clear out the cottage…and finds a cutting from a London society magazine, with a photograph of her supposedly deceased father dated all of three month before. He’s an earl, respected and influential, and he is standing with another daughter – his legitimate daughter. Which makes Rachel…not legitimate. Everything she thought she knew about herself and her past – even her very name – is a lie…

Middle School Survival Kit for Girls

Being a teen can be challenging, especially when dealing with hygiene and body changes away from home. Before heading into the school year, make your daughter this Middle School Survival Kit for Girls.

Middle School Survival Kit for Girls

Middle School Survival Kit

I beginning to see many of my friends begin the process of parenting a middle schooler. You see, my daughter was born in Florida where many middle schools began in 6th grade. We moved to the DC area when she was in 2nd grade where many of the middle schools begin in 7th grade. a big sigh of relief for this mama to an 11 year old.

Just because my oldest is not entering middle school, doesn’t mean I am not feeling the pre-teen vibes. My daughter is beginning to discover things like shaving your legs, what it means to have a period, how to have good hygiene and more.  If your daughter has anxiety about being “away from mom” doing some of these new experiences, make her a middle school locker emergency kit.

Lilly Pulitzer Cosmetic Bag This cosmetic bag was too cute to pass up. What girl would not love this print? As a bonus, the adorable pouch comes with some goodies – 2 sticker sheets, 3 magnetic page keepers, and a Lilly Pulitzer ballpoint pen. Parts of this bag are see through, so perhaps leave the feminine products out for a bashful teen.

Mini Hair Brush  Did anyone else have a hair brush like this growing up. It totally takes me back! This mini brush is designed to detangle. Perfect for after physical education.

Maybelline New York Baby Lips Lip Balm I have been using Baby Lips since they came out. Simply love the healing lip balm with a touch of color. I don’t feel like I am pushing my daughter to age too fast by giving her a tinted balm over lipstick.

Mini Lint Roll  For the girl who wants to look picture perfect. Roll off that extra dog/cat hair with this mini lint roll. Chances are she will loving having it more than she will use it, but it’s a cute addition to her beauty kit.

Spiral Hair Ties  The majority of the time, my daughter has half a dozen hair ties on her wrist, but for the times she forgot, have a backup supply of hair ties. These spiral hair ties are great for not getting creases in your hair. Plus they are adorable on your wrist (well better than some of the other hair ties I have seen!)

Flushable Wipes Cleansing Cloths Such an encouragement to remaining hygienic during the day. Wipe off sweaty make-up or perhaps unwanted body odor with these flushable cleansing wipes. I would replenish throughout the year as they are prone to drying out. I would also place this travel pouch in a Ziploc bag to retain the moisture.

Bobby Pins Want to pin back unwanted cascading hair. Bobby pins are you best friend. Be sure to look at our Bobby Pin Hack too!

Pacifica Island Vanilla Body Spray Middle school is a period of time of unwanted odors. The developing body goes through a lot! always smell your best with a pleasant body spray. Is anyone else a fan of having a familiar (always the same) sent?

Green Tea Mints No time to brush? Have spare mints. Do you know that mints can also stimulate the brain, giving your child an extra boost to an afternoon math class!

Hand Sanitizer Gel I mean germs! I became an anti-germ mama once I had more than two kids. I did not want one kid getting another sibling sick (and on down the line.) If a sink and soap are not near by, grab some hand sanitizer! Plus, these gels smell great! Another great scent found here.

Dove Powder Deodorant When I taught fifth grade, it was an age of hormones starting. The only thing i told my kids to put on every day was their clothes and deodorant!  I told them this every day. Encourage taking care of your hygiene by having deodorant in your child’s survival kit!

Always Radiant Infinity Pads for Teens Having your monthly period can be hard. Outlast the average school day with these Always Infinity Pads for teens. They have an (up to) 8-hour absorbency. The teen size makes it the right size for a teen over your average adult.

Dollar Store Halloween Decorations

I am really in love with Dollar Store Halloween Decorations. The Dollar Tree Halloween Shop at DollarTree.com is quite impressive and there are so many items even in the non seasonal decor you could pick up to create the cutest Halloween decorations. That is exactly what we did with our cute bat craft. Using googly eyes, clothes pins, coffee filters and markers, we created a little treasure to be remembered year after year. We share an easy step by step tutorial for coffee filter tie dye using markers, water and you guessed it, coffee filters!

This cute Halloween bat craft for kids is incredibly easy. We think it makes a cute preschool Halloween Craft but I know my elementary aged kids would have fun jumping in the activity too!

Happy Crafting.

Preschool Halloween Craft Directions

First, flatten round coffee filters and apply several colors of washable markers in a variety of patterns. We used black, blue and purple markers. Keep in mind, your colors will bleed or make a tie dye pattern so no need to speed to much time on the talent of the coloring.

Next, place your colored coffee filter on craft mat and spritz with water to watch the magic! Set your coffee filters aside to dry.

While you filters are drying, clip the clothespins on a scrap of cardboard and paint all sides with black craft paint and paintbrush. Set aside to dry.

Tip: You can also color your clothespins with black Sharpie marker for an instantly dried body!

When everything is dry, attach wiggle eyes using the fine tip applicator.

Draw mouth and fangs with white gel pen. Set aside to dry.

When your filter is dry, fold dry coffee filter in fourths and cut a scallop edge with scissors to create a bat wing

Next, unfold filter to half and cut a 3” slit up from the scalloped edge.

Lastly, open clothespin and insert your coffee filter wings. Cut ears from black card stock, apply to top of clothespin with liquid glue. Hold tightly in place to stick.

You have created your first bat. Make sure to create a colony of bats this Halloween with the kiddos! It’s fun to hang them and let them float in your child’s room or even at a common place window.

Enjoy and happy crafting!
