Where is the Great Commission Found?

The Great Commission is most famously found in Matthew 28:18-20.

“And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

However, similar calls to spread the gospel are also mentioned in other parts of the New Testament:

Mark 16:15: “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation.”
Acts 1:8: “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

These passages show that the call to share the good news of Jesus is a central theme in the New Testament and an ongoing mission for all believers.

Black-and-white printable of Jesus (on Etsy too)
Flashlight
Glue stick

Instructions:

Use a glue stick and glue the perimeter of the printable of Jesus.
Layer the black-and-white photo of the child with the image of Jesus in the back.
Shine a flashlight through the back of the printable.
As the light passes through, children will see both their image and Jesus, reinforcing the idea that Jesus is always with them.
The message “Jesus is with me” will appear.

This Great Commission Kids’ activity not only teaches the Great Commission but also reminds children of Jesus’ constant presence.

The Great Commission Coloring Wheel

The Great Commission Activity Mat

Think About It: Can you be friends with this person again? What steps could you take to make things better between you?

8. Trust That God Will Make Things Right

When you forgive, you’re trusting that God will take care of everything. He knows what’s fair, and He will handle it.

Think About It: Do you believe that God will make things right in the end?

Let’s start with the basics. Humility is all about putting others first, being kind, and not always needing to be the center of attention. It’s about realizing that everyone has value, and that serving others is one of the best ways to show God’s love.

Merriam-webster Dictionary states…

“Humility means “the state of being humble.” Both it and humble have their origin in the Latin word humilis, meaning “low.” Humble can be used to describe what is ranked low by others, as in “persons of humble origins.” People also use the word of themselves and things associated with themselves; if you describe yourself as “but a humble editor” or refer to your home as your “humble abode,” you are saying that neither you nor your home is very impressive.”

When we teach kids about humility, we’re helping them develop empathy, kindness, and a servant’s heart. And what better way to do that than through stories, crafts, and activities that bring these concepts to life?

- Kid-Friendly Take: No job is too small or too “messy” when it comes to serving others like Jesus.
Proverbs 11:2 “When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with the humble is wisdom.”
- Kid-Friendly Take: When you’re too proud, you can get into trouble, but when you’re humble, you make wise choices.”

By connecting a lesson on being humble to Scripture, children can see how humility is woven into their faith, God’s word, and how it guides their actions and relationships.

Who says learning about humility has to be serious all the time? Let’s break out the crayons, glue sticks, and paint, and have some fun with these humility-themed crafts!

Walking with Jesus is Sweeter than Pie Footprint Craft

This craft is as sweet as it sounds! Kids will love dipping their feet in paint and stamping them onto paper to create a footprint masterpiece. Add the phrase “Walking with Jesus is Sweeter than Pie” and a reference to Matthew 19:14 to remind them that following Jesus is the best path they can take. After feet are painted, extend the lesson to Jesus Washes the Disciples’ Feet in John 13:1-17.

“When I Serve Others, I Serve God” Handprint Art

This craft is all about getting hands-on with humility—literally! Kids add their own handprint to a sheet that reads, “When I serve others, I serve God.” It’s a powerful visual that reminds them that their actions can be a reflection of God’s love. We can be his hands!

Here’s a craft that’s interactive and reflective. Kids can list or color six ways they can serve like Jesus on this Humble Pie coloring wheel. It’s a creative way to get them thinking about how they can practice humility in real life and look for ways to help and serve others.

DIY Hand Clapper Craft

Get ready to make some noise! This DIY Hand Clapper craft encourages kids to “Serve the Lord with Excitement” (Romans 12:11).
