Looking for a sweet treat that can help you celebrate all things turkey? Thanksgiving Rice Krispie Treats are easy to make and assemble!

Turkey-Thanksgiving-Krispie-Treats-Frugal-Coupon-Living

There are always tons of crafts and recipes to make around the holidays, but this Thanksgiving Rice Krispie Treats recipe is so fun to put together and the ingredients are super simple. This Rice Krispie Turkey is also budget friendly, which I love! Making a craft that is also edible is a win-win in my book. The kids will literally gobble it right up!

Tips for Making Thanksgiving Turkey Rice Krispy Treats

It’s that time of year again! The leaves are changing color, the air is getting crisper, and families are gathering to give thanks. And what would Thanksgiving be without a turkey-shaped treat? This year, why not try something new and make your own Thanksgiving Rice Krispy Treats? Here are a few tips for making them.

  1. Choose your shape. Whether you want to go for traditional rice Krispy treats or you just want to do a circle, this is the time to create your favorite shape.
  2. Make the dough. Start by melting marshmallows and butter in a pot over low heat. Once the mixture is melted, add in rice cereal until evenly mixed.
  3. Scoop and shaping. Use a spoon or cookie cutter to scoop out dough and shape into your desired turkey shape.
  4. Decorate! Have fun decorating your turkey with frosting, candy eyes, and whatever else you can think of!

Enjoy! Let your creativity shine through and have fun making these delicious Thanksgiving treats!

Is there a difference between marshmallow cream and marshmallow fluff?

Marshmallow cream is a thick, spreadable mixture made from marshmallows, corn syrup, and gelatin. Marshmallow fluff is similar but does not contain gelatin and has a lighter texture. Both can be used as substitutes for marshmallows in Rice Krispie Treats, but may result in slightly different textures and flavors.

Thanksgiving Rice Krispie Treats

I love sharing kids food crafts with you on the Rachael Ray Show October 2013. This year we have another fun one – a Thanksgiving Turkey Rice Krispie Treat. It’s a great way to recycle leftover Halloween Candy!

Ingredients

Gather a few supplies for your turkey rice krispie treats.

  • 6 cup Rice Krispies Cereal
  • 4 tbsp Butter
  • 10.5 oz Mini Marshmallows
  • 9 Reese’s Miniatures
  • 9 Orange Reese’s Pieces
  • 18 Candy Eyes
  • 45 Candy Corns
  • 1/4 cup Red Candy Melting Chips

Also grab a cookie sheet, bowls, spatulas, for preparing these delicious treats.

  3. In a large saucepan, melt butter over low heat.
  4. Add the marshmallows and stir until completely melted.

  12. Clip very tip of the corner of bag to allow you to pipe on candy.
  13. Using candy as glue, attach miniature to bottom half of circle.
  14. Using candy as glue, attach 5 candy corn feathers around upper half of miniature to be tail feathers.
  15. Using candy as glue, attach Reese’s Piece to bottom half of miniature on its edge as beak.
  16. Using candy as glue, attach eyes above beak.
  17. Pipe on a waddle down the bottom of miniature below beak.
  18. Refrigerate for 10 minutes to set up.

The next time you need a treat idea for the classroom or for a Thanksgiving gathering, these Thanksgiving Rice Krispie Treats are perfect!

Can you make Turkey Rice Krispie Treats ahead of time?

Yes, you can definitely make Rice Krispie Treats ahead of time. Simply prepare the treats according to your desired recipe and store them in an airtight container. They can last for up to a week at room temperature or even longer if stored in the refrigerator. Just be sure to let them come to room temperature before serving for optimum gooeyness and enjoyment.

Can these turn into Rice Krispie Pops?

Yes. Go ahead and prepare your Rice Krispie treat turkey. You can use these lollipop cake pop sticks to create cute turkey pops. For a fun idea, stick your dessert sticks in a decorated foam flower block or even a pumpkin drilled with holes. Display on the Thanksgiving dessert tables.

Is there a substitute for marshmallows in rice crispy treats?

If you don’t have marshmallows on hand or prefer not to use them, you can try using marshmallow fluff or melting chocolate chips and mixing them with the Rice Krispies cereal. You can also try using melted white chocolate or cream cheese as a substitute for the gooeyness typically provided by marshmallows. Experiment with different combinations and see what works best for your taste preferences.

How long will homemade Rice Krispie Turkey Treats stay fresh?

Homemade Rice Krispie Treats will stay fresh at room temperature for about a week, stored in an airtight container. They can also last longer if stored in the refrigerator. If you want them to stay even fresher for a longer period of time, you can also freeze them for up to a couple of months. Simply thaw in the refrigerator before serving.

It’s Time to Be Real – Who is Ashley?

11

It took me awhile to come to this post. I kept pushing it away, saying my reader’s don’t care. Over and over, though, I had the desire to be real with you – SO LET’S BE REAL!

I know many of you have been with me since what I call “the Dr. Phil days.”  I began Frugal Coupon Living in late 2008. The following year in 2009, blogging became an unexpected whirlwind through media and press that was a bit overwhelming. It was nothing I had expected and it was in the middle of personal silent chaos (I couldn’t share) but also public joys. I welcomed my oldest daughter before the blog in 2008, but many of you were with me in the birth of my youngest daughter 2009 – how do I know you were there, I was in the hospital bed, in labor, blogging about deals (that is when you know that your “job” is your passion.)

From 2008 to 2011, I shared with you many of my excitements. I included pictures of my kids, myself and friends at blogging conferences, my personal deal finds, and other home photos. Then all of a sudden in 2011, I went quiet – I removed so much of the personal and I HATED IT. I wanted to still connect with you.

The other day I posted a picture on Instagram. It was a picture of myself and my two girls celebrating my 2009 baby turning 5. Yes, five years have gone fast. I had a reader ask me a question – WHERE IS YOUR HUSBAND?!? Really?!? You don’t know, I wondered. I spent the better part of that morning crafting my response to her. This was the first time I had been asked in 3 1/2 years, how would I reply? Why do I have to answer this now? It dawned on me, “Ashley, you have tried to publicly hide this divorce and you have. Of course, this reader of six years has no idea.” Yes friends, I AM DIVORCED, and I hid it from Frugal Coupon Living.

Five years ago, this sweet girl graced this world giving Lucy and I one of our biggest gifts. Thank you Bella for teaching us to laugh, forgive, hug often, color outside the lines, and to find joy and humor in all things. Happy 5th Birthday Isabella Grace. We love you! #birthday

View on Instagram

Why did I hide my divorce? Mainly two reasons. 1.) I didn’t want my blog to promote divorce, it isn’t something I agreed with and after counsel from the church, friends, and family, I decided it was the right thing to do. This blog was about saving money and I wanted to keep it that. 2.) I feared judgment. I knew a lot of my readers were from in-tack families, some were even wives of pastors – yes, I do understand that doesn’t keep you free of the struggles marriage can bring. In fact, you probably are attacked more. I do get that. However, inside of me a little voice asked – What would they think? Would I loose readership?

I don’t regret the times I remained quiet behind the blog. In fact and unfortunately, there is still much reason for me to continue to do so. I still have two young impressionable girls. But there is also a time to connect with you and say to you, I GET IT! I go through struggles and I, as well, find times were saving money or using a coupon is just too much effort.

instagram-photo-Collage

While I can’t always connect with you in each deal post I share, I do find the best place for me to let you into my life, my passions and my heart (I think it’s a big one) is on INSTAGRAM.

  • Did you know my Godfather worked in the World Trade Center?
  • Did you know I am a fitness fanatic?
  • Did you know I am “sorta” obsessed with coffee?
  • Did you know I love fashion and putting outfits together?
  • Did you see the fun way I practice spelling words in my child’s lunch?

It’s been over three years as a single mom and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. Wow the GROWTH that has occurred. I am not the same woman who started this blog six years ago. I AM BLESSED YA’LL. I love my kids, I love my home, I love my family and friends – and you might just see a man I love on Instagram too. He’s a mighty good one! I have grown to appreciate love and life more than I ever did before.

And for the future – I have some really happy things on the horizon and I can’t wait to share them with you too! God is good!
