We love our throw blankets, I bet you do too. Love them so much, but they tend to disappear to our kids’ bedrooms – does anyone else have that problem?

As I was preparing for filling our blanket basket with a few more blankets before we begin an in-home bible study, I came across this awesome savings.

Right now save on these luxury throw blankets. Grab a Hotel Collection Luxe Knit Throw for $49.99 from $130.00. These are 50″ x 70″ and have 4.9 stars out of 5 stars. That is with over 60 reviews, so people like them! Grab one of 6 prints. I personally am grabbing the Fawn Leopard.

If you hate shopping at Macy’s because you are loyal to Amazon, I get it. The Amazon Basics Fuzzy Faux Fur Sherpa Throw Blanket is a little bit larger at 60″ x 70″ and is also a fan favorite in the house. The current list price is $31 and has over 17 styles to choose form.

Enjoy!

benefits of outdoor activites for kids

As animals and plants emerge from a long winter hibernation, so can we! There are many benefits to getting outside. While the kids might not care about the benefits, it’s good for us as parents to see how an outdoor adventure can be good for the soul.

Promotes an appreciation for the natural environment.

Going on a nature treasure hunt allows you to observe and appreciate the beauty that surrounds us. You get to explore different areas of nature that you may not have ventured into before. A few big-picture observations are obvious, but how about getting down to the nitty-gritty? Observe insects as they travel in and out of the entrance to their home. Watch how the wind creates a dance in a field of wildflowers.

Encourages physical activity.

A nature scavenger hunt encourages you to get outdoors and stay physically active. It is a great way to get your daily dose of exercise and fresh air! A hike through a field doesn’t have to be vigorous. In fact, you might not even realize the motions are you going through as you are distracted by the outdoor activity. Want to make it more challenging, incorporate a set of 10 exercises between each activity.

Fosters teamwork skills.

Scavenger hunts are great for bonding with family, friends, or colleagues. Working together towards completing goals promotes teamwork and collaboration within groups. They also can act as an ice breaker for getting to know new friends. Perfect for summer camp or a youth group.

Teaches problem-solving skills.

Solving puzzles or puzzles while on the hunt requires critical thinking and encourages creative problem-solving skills. While this particular scavenger hunt isn’t very challenging, there is a nature checklist that might require a few great detectives to fulfill all the checks.

Makes lasting memories.

Going on a nature scavenger hunt creates a unique experience that can be fondly remembered for years to come! It is the perfect way to make family memories that will last a lifetime. In fact, fresh air and exploration release endorphins. Endorphins open the memory bank for new files. This out-of-the-box activity will be one they won’t forget and will talk about for years.

Enhances knowledge of nature.

By going on a nature scavenger hunt, you can learn new things about the environment and its animal inhabitants. You can increase your understanding of how different plants and animals interact with each other in their natural habitat. Instead of looking at the bigger picture, you are led through this printable outdoor activity to focus on the little things that together build the bigger picture. easy dinnerly meal delivery service with easy family recipe ideas

Is taste important to you? Do you crave more time? Will you change your dinner routine for the convenience of food arriving at your front door? If you are looking for affordable weeknight cooking and delivery service with fresh ingredients and simple recipes, take a look at Dinnerly Meal Delivery Service.

What is Dinnerly?

family dinnerly meal delivery subscription box service

Dinnerly is a meal delivery subscription dinner box. The meal service brings recipes with fresh ingredients straight to your door for unfussy, affordable weeknight dinners. Dinnerly supplies everything you need to prepare quality, delicious, home-cooked meals that require no planning or shopping.

Customer benefits include a choice of  100+ unfussy weeknight meal choices.  Each simple recipe includes pre-portioned ingredients and will take 30 minutes or less to prepare and cook (often less!) Often the meal subscription service works straight with the farmer suppliers and small organizations, making veggies fresh. Fresh ingredients = lots of taste!

Dinnerly can be shipped anywhere in the United States.

How does Dinnerly work?

The dinnerly website is very clear and easy to navigate. To get started you need to set up your account with your location and the number of people you plan to feed each week.

dinnerly subscription options for meals

To get started…

Choose Your Meal Size. To begin, choose the number of people and choose the number of meals. You can choose 2 or 4 people. You can choose up to 6 meals a week. Don’t worry you can adjust this each week when you are choosing your recipes.

Enter Your Location. Enter your zip code for shipping options.

Choose a Delivery Day. There are a few options for your delivery day based on your zip code. Your box will arrive between 8 am and 9 pm.

example dinnerly checkout for family meal subscription

Dinnerly boxes are designed to keep your produce fresh and refrigerated items chilled during their journey to your doorstep. Once your box is delivered, you should unpack your cardboard box as soon as possible and place its contents in your refrigerator (or freezer.)

How much does a Dinnerly subscription cost?

The price of this fun meal service will vary. For most users, portions will be around $4.99 – $7.00/serving. When choosing your Dinnerly meals, there are a few meals that might have upcharges for premi-YUM ingredients or dietary restrictions including grass feed beef, gluten-free, shrimp, seafood, steak, etc. As a counter, there are also a few options where the price of the portion is reduced.

example dinnerly recipes for family subscription meals

For a pricing example, I feed a family of seven on 4 person box.  (I will share later how I do this.) On average, I have four meals arrive each week. A four-meal week with a portion of four people costs me $94.24 plus $11.99 shipping.  That is less than $25/meal for a freshly cooked meal for my family. This pricing did not include any special offers or up chargers. This was $5.89.

Dinnerly pricing varies on two things:

  1. The number of meals ordered a week.
  2. The number of servings for each meal.

Dinnerly Cost

Look at this price chart for the dinnerly cost per serving based on the number of servings and meals.

updated cost dinnerly price comparison chart based on meals and servings

With this chart, you can see that the dinnerly cost is as low as $4.99 per person. This is because Dinnerly only lets you get meals for up to four people. But I get a meal for 7 people… So really, I stretch the dinnerly price to as low as $2.85 per person (plus any add-ons I get from my grocery store.)

I have found a way to get the Dinnerly cost down to $2.85 a person!

Why was this pricing worth it?

  • It gave me time as did not have to meal plan.
  • It offered convenience as did not have to grocery shop.
  • Everything was at my front door on a date I chose.
  • I was offering my family a variety of recipes (instead of the same old recipe.)
  • I can quickly see nutrition facts including calories, fat, and dietary details.
  • I had dinner on the table in less than 30 minutes.

At a low price of (as low as) $4.99/serving (or a Dinnerly price of $2.85), this was totally worth it and a very affordable meal kit.

Can I edit my recipes?

Yes, choose the weekly recipes you want! There are plenty of different meal options and varieties from Mexican, to Asian, Italian, and more. Dinnerly will suggest weekly menus, but you can edit your dinnerly offers each week. Add more or fewer recipes to your box depending on how many days of the week you need to cook.

I have dietary needs.

If you have dietary restrictions, Dinnerly has solutions. The meal plan recipes can be sorted and you can search among super recipes for vegetarians, gluten-free diets, and healthy living.

Are the recipes hard to make?

No.

I could stop with no but I will offer you more details. I seriously hate coking. It creates a mess and requires culinary creativity. These recipes dummy it down in a quick 20 to 30 minutes. The instructions are easy to read. The tastes are really great. I actually feel amazing at the end of the process. Having cooked dinners from a meal box for almost five months I actually feel like I have acquired a few culinary talents (nothing I ever desired to achieve.)

Can you pause your subscription?

Yes! Are you traveling or extra busy for one week? You can pause your subscription or skip a week. Customers can cancel at any time, there are no commitments to stay.

I have canceled ordering meals during Thanksgiving week or family travel.

I have more than four people in my family.

When you create a dinnerly subscription, you can choose a 2-person meal or a 4-person meal. If you have more than four people in your family, there are a few options. Simply order the same meal multiple times and get up to eight services or add ingredients to your grocery shopping.

I do the latter. Each week after I choose my recipes for the following week, I know what will be included in my dinnerly shipment. Based on these easy dinner recipes, I use my grocery delivery service to order extra ingredients like meats,  starches, or vegetables. My kids eat A LOT and it’s not uncommon for us to have a small portion of leftovers because I added extra chicken, pasta, or even broccoli to a weeknight recipe.

Easy Weeknight Recipes with Meal Subscription

fun dinnerly recipes to choose each week with a family subscription

Weeknights are full of activity mixed with the anticipation of getting to bed at a reasonable time and restarting the next day. Because of the hustle and bustle of the evening, having an easy weeknight recipe is very important.

Dinnerly has changed our evenings in the fact that I am not chasing fast food or going crazy repeating the same ole recipe. I simply open my phone, choose a recipe from my box for the night and grab the ingredients from my fridge.

The ingredients in dinnerly recipes are often about 5 to 7 items. Fewer ingredients plus a few steps. The steps are never longer than six easy steps. The directions are well-written and easy to follow.

Highlights which make these easy weeknight meals…

  • Recipes 30 minutes or less
  • Portioned ingredients
  • Simple recipe instructions
  • Reused pans and bowls for easy cleaning
  • Easily accessible ingredients
  • Few complaints
  • No grocery shopping

Often easy weekend night super of put on repeat. You know how to do it with the back of your hand and your family tires of this easily. When I open a dinnerly recipe, I have no idea where to begin but the six steps don’t cause me much stress. They are easy-peasy and all create new or familiar flavors we love.

In five months there might be five recipes we have repeated. Some recipes are similar tasting but each is new.

Dinnerly includes all the key ingredients you need to prep your meal. However, it’s very easy to add your ingredients to a Dinnerly recipe. Recipes only feed up to four people and I have a family of 7 (you do the math.) I could easily order another four-person recipe but that cost adds up. Instead, this non-chef tries this trick – ordering extra ingredients.

Because Dinnerly requires you to choose recipes in advance, I know what is coming the following week. So instead of duplicating my order, I order a few of the key ingredients in my grocery delivery service and add these staples to the easy Dinnerly recipe I plan to cook that week. Typically the items I add to recipes are meat, veggies, or starches. For example extra ground beef, extra pasta, or extra pasta.  If we are really in need of more food (which is rare), I make a side salad, a bread loaf, or a fruit salad.

If you do not wish to order extra food from your local grocery store, during your meal subscription checkout, Dinnerly has the option to add these extra products. These extra meat items or sides are sometimes at a lower price than most grocery stores.

In addition to adding more to the main course, during dinnerly checkout, you can add fun dessert recipes, snack bars, or already-prepared meals.

Recipe Ingredients

When cooking Dinnerly dinner recipes, there are a few pantry staples you will want to have around your house. These items are not shipped but are common cooking ingredients in most homes.

Kitchen staples you should have in your home include…

  • Eggs
  • Red Wine Vinegar
  • White Vinegar
  • Cooking Oil
  • Olive Oil
  • Sugar
  • Flour
  • Butter
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Garlic
  • Mayonaise

These key ingredients will be included in many of the subscription box Dinnerly recipes but not in your subscription box.

Dinnerly Recipes PDF

Dinnerly does not include recipes in their box. They include recipe ingredients but no recipe cards. Rather the menu planning Dinnerly website has a digital recipe box.

dinnerly smartphone app with digital recipe box

The first week I received my box my heart began to race because I was looking everywhere for dinner instructions. However, I quickly realized how easily I could locate the dinnerly recipes in the app on my phone.

Since the dinner recipes are available on both a Google play store and Apple Store Dinnerly app, you can easily look at digital recipe cards on your phone. However, if you want printable dinnerly recipes, follow these steps for your Dinnerly recipe PDF.

  1. Sign in to Dinnerly.
  2. Go to the order tab.
  3. Click the image of the recipe you want to print.
  4. Click the “click for cooking instructions” button.
  5. A recipe card PDF will open.
  6. Print this printable recipe PDF.

Save these recipes in a recipe binder. This will save money on printer ink and paper later as in the future you can repeat these dinner recipes and easily refer to your dinnerly menu recipe printables.

Of course, there is no need to print your recipes. You can view the cooking instructions right on your smartphone.

Dinnerly Review

Now you want the Dinnerly review? Let me give you my personal Dinnerly experience. I am sure you likely saw a few of my perceptions through the explanations of this meal kit delivery service.

If I may be very honest, I hate cooking. I hate baking. I hate mess. Being in the kitchen includes all of that. Regardless of my distaste for cooking, dinnerly has given me a positive experience.

I started a Dinnerly subscription in August. By February, I was still using the weekly meal delivery service. That’s a really long time (at least for me.) I have tried meal kit services like (Hellofresh or Home Chef) before and never committed to more than a three-week trial. This is dedication through half of a school year and I have no intention to stop. I bet you I make it this entire school year because of how useful it is for me.

What I love about Dinnerly Meal Subscription…

Dinnerly does my grocery shopping. I find it very helpful that the meal service does the grocery shopping for me. Besides using cooking staples (I already have) and adding a few extra items to my grocery list, I am no longer collecting ingredients at the grocery store for my family’s meals.

Dinnerly plans my meals. Dinnerly weekly offers suggestions for kid-friendly meals based on my history and saves and reviews. The menu planner eliminates the difficult planning and offers me weekly ideas. I can quickly confirm what I want to keep on my family’s menu and replace (or erase) what I do not want. This might take me 5 minutes each week.

Dinnerly tastes good. Not one time did my family not love one of the dinnerly supper recipes. I never had to toss a meal. Ingredient quality is there and you cook with fresh ingredients which add plenty of flavors. Does my family have different taste buds? Yes. That being said, there are times that a couple of picky eaters did not favor a dish but for the most part, at least five people like what I have made (that’s a huge accomplishment.)  Most of the time it’s all seven that like the delivered meals as I cater recipes to my family’s taste buds. My husband, who used to order individual meal services, stopped his delivery service and now eats what I cook. Hear me out, it wasn’t awful before it was just not food he wanted. He loves the meals now.

Dinnerly gives me confidence. Confidence in the kitchen was not something I was looking for. I could seriously care less. But I find as I cook more and order more dinnerly meals, I kind of understand the art of cooking. Sorry, I hate to be cliche. But I am learning how to substitute things or add slight variations to improve the preferences of my family/s likes. This was not a skill I had before. I also love the mechatronic pat on my back I get from my family when they say “yum!” or “so good!” (It’s quite frequent.)

I have used dinnerly not only for my immediate family (did I mention I have seven) but also for the extended family that has visited as guests. They loved the meals too. When guests come, I either order double the recipe or I just make adaptions like adding extra rice, sides, or meats.

In fact, this easy and low-cost meal service is mother-in-law approved! My MIL, who I find to be the best home chef ever, totally loved the convenience and cost of this meal service. She is a person who can run to the grocery store and create a five-course dinner with little or no direction. She’s creative with ingredients and flavors and really loved each of the meals I made for her when she visited.

All in all – time, taste and convenience have won me over to use this company week after week after week!

More Dinnerly Reviews

I wanted to supply you with other voices too! It’s important to read reviews before a big purchase like this. Google reviews actually has over 2,000 dinnerly reviews that show 4.5 stars.

Read some of these reviews of Dinnerly. I will share the good and the bad so you can see a variety of what people are sayings.  Pay attention to the bars. Over 2,000 reviews and that’s a pretty heavy 5-star line.

5 star dinnerly review on google

Every meal has been so delicious and my kids love them too! Also, I always have leftovers so the portions are a great size for a family of 5! I would recommend it to anyone.

3 star dinnerly review on google

We received our first Dinnerly box and it was better than expected! The shrimp bake in foil was amazing! We are now on week 3 of our Dinnerly subscription and we have Tuesday as our delivery date but every week thus far we have received an email update on Tuesday that due to unforeseen circumstances, our order will be delivered one day late. We still have our date set on our profile to Tuesday, but have not received our box on Tuesday. Other than this faux pas, the items shipped and quality are excellent & the recipes are very easy and quick!

Please note: I (Ashley) had a shipment issue like Tifnie and Dinnerly refunded me the full box.

3 star review on google for dinnerly

There are some really cool recipes! They use less plastic than some of the other companies. You do not get printed recipe cards which is very annoying to me. There are also no pictures on the recipe instructions online, which as a visual learner is sometimes difficult.

Please note: I understand Dawn’s frustration. I wish I had printed cards too. You can print off your online account if this is important to you. Otherwise, use your app.

review dinnerly 5 star on google

We’ve done a bunch of meal services but hands down love Dinnerly the best. We love the wide range in vegetarian and chicken options as our family doesn’t eat much beef and pork. Even when forgetting to select meal the options picked are amazing and meet our dietary restrictions. Good produce and great price for the value.

I thought it was important to also give you a 1-star Dinnerly review so you can also read a negative Dinnerly review in addition to the positive dinnerly reviews.

negative dinnerly review 1 star

My experience with Dinnerly started out fine. I enjoyed the convenience of planned meals with simple recipes and ingredients delivered. The recipes were down to earth and for the most part worked well for my family of picky eaters. However, over the past year there have been issues with quality, condition and missing ingredients. It was easy to let the little things go by at first. A smashed tomato, meat package leaks, smashed bread, a seasoning left out, the wrong meal sent, etc. Most recently, it was moldy bread and brown basil with pictures attached. I complained a total of 3 times and within a week each time received partial credit for the problems. I didn’t complain each time there was a problem because I didn’t want to mess with it or I would forget. Most of the time, I could use something I had on hand as a substitute. The frustration and disappointment level is just too much for the amount of money I pay for a service to reduce stress and make life easier. I contacted the company on Monday with the attached pics expressing the problems I have had and asked for a full box credit if they would like me to continue the service. On Friday, they offered to credit one meal instead of the box so I cancelled my subscription. I don’t have time to complain with almost every box and the one meal credit wasn’t enough to compensate for the issues in the past or time in the future needed to deal with ingredient problems. Six days ago I received an email requesting that I leave a review, so here it is. I gave three stars to be fair, but if you use this service be prepared to be flexible and have some extra ingredients on hand. If your experience is anything like mine, you will need them. Edit: Changed to a one star based on response below. Obviously, I have already given them feedback directly and they chose not to keep me as a customer.

You can even review Dinnerly too.

Are you looking for exciting things to do this spring with the kids? Grab this Spring Scavenger Hunt printables set with four fun outdoor scavenger hunt ideas.

printable spring scavenger hunt set

As soon as the fall and winter seasons hit, our calendars become filled with activity. However, coming out of the winter months might feel a little bit slower as we are all frozen from short days and cold months.  If you are looking for a few fun activities to do this spring with your family try a spring scavenger hunt! There are multiple ways to go about this. You can do a sprint scavenger hunt list with pictures for younger kids or you can do something fun and ab it more challenging for older kids. These can include fun outdoor riddles children last to solve in order to find the prize upon finishing. Or toss your hands in the area and do a scavenger hunt that is included every spring – hint, it includes little things called eggs.

How to create a spring scavenger hunt

One of the biggest scavenger hunts occurs every spring. In fact, it’s so common most of us don’t recognize it as a scavenger hunt. Spring always brings an Easter Egg Hunt as we scavenge the group for plastic little eggs. Because of this treasure hunt spring tradition, it’s easy to create a scavenger hunt in spring. In fact, if you don’t feel like putting together your own easter egg hunt, you can find one at schools, churches, and community parks most everywhere. It’s convenient and allows us to bring a few spring memories to our kids. If you want to put together your own spring scavenger hunt, then that can be accomplished too.

What are good items for a scavenger hunt?

Items needed for a scavenger hunt are different for each season and theme. A birthday scavenger hunt looks much different than a grocery store scavenger hunt. Common things needed or most scavenger hunts include…

  • Clue cards or a checklist
  • Prizes
  • Bags for collected items
  • Pencils, pens, crayons
  • Timer (for timed scavenger hunt races)

How do you make a simple scavenger hunt?

It’s easy to put together a scavenger hunt especially when you can easily access printable scavenger hunts.  To put together an easy scavenger hunt, set up the following scavenger hunt plan.

  1. Download and print your scavenger hunt (s) clue cards and or checklists.
  2. Scout out a location. For a spring scavenger hunt, have a backyard, park, or playground.
  3. Take a look at your lists. Are all items able to be found? If not cross out items that don’t work or omit the clues that don’t fit your outdoor scavenger hunt setting.
  4. If this is a scavenger hunt with clues, hide your clues in order. Briefly run through the scavenger hunt to make sure it works.
  5. With each clue hide fun prizes or one big prize at the end. If it’s a checklist scavenger hunt, hold on to the prizes.

Now that you are ready for a scavenger hunt during spring, take a look at these printable spring scavenger hunt ideas. Grab the printable hunt that is best for your crew.

Easter Scavenger Hunt Checklist

Easter is a major holiday in spring. Grab this Easter Scavenger Hunt checklist as you discover things that have an answer theme. Perhaps with each item that your child finds, hand them an Easter Egg as the prize. This can be filled with Easter candy, small toys, stickers, or even money (older kids will not mind that!) If you are limited on the number of eggs in the Easter Basket, this will make it an even larger challenge as siblings will race in a friendly Easter Egg competition to find the most items on their checklist before their brother or sister. Give younger kids a head start!

How Well Do You Know Your Family Questions

If you are familiar with family conversation starter questions, then you will understand how these family game cards work. Typically conversation cards for families require someone to answer in a way that is telling about oneself. However, for a fun twist, in this know your family? game, the fun questions are not introspective. Instead, they require a player to ask interesting questions and the rest of the family answers the questions in observance of the person asking the question.

Let’s look at a few family trivia card questions…

  • Question: Who is my favorite teacher?
  • Question: Which song do I know the most words to?
  • Question: If I could have a superpower, what would it be?

If a family member gets the right answer, they get to keep the card.

Mini Family Challenges

To step up the excitement, there are competitive challenges in this fun card game for families. This allows, in addition to questions, a little bit of friendly competition and action via fun challenges to do at home.

These fun challenges include supplies found in the home but if there is something you do not have, it can easily be replaced with something else so there is no need to buy more than the game itself.

Examples of family-friendly challenge cards include…

  • Action: Start at a table with chairs. At go, all players must get up and run around the house. The first player back to their chair wins the card.
  • Action: All players fold paper airplanes. The paper plane that flies the furthest gets to keep the card.
  • Action: See which player can stack the most coins in 30 seconds using only one hand. The winner takes the card.

In each of these frantic family fun competitions, the winner is the first person to finish and takes the card.

Do You Know Your Family Game Instructions

Now that you are ready to play, it’s important to know the instructions. The how well do you know your fam game instructions are rather simple. The game objective is to collect the most cards by the time the game is through.

Once printed, you may choose to laminate your family game card set. This will help you reuse the set over and over. (However, if you don’t, save it to your computer to print as often as you would like.)

Cut your set of cards up to create a deck of cards. You may divide your conversation starter cards and action cards by card type or keep them as one complete set.

Start with the youngest player. Allow them to draw a card from the deck and ask a question or offer a family challenge. In challenges, the first to complete the challenge correctly gets the card. In game questions, the first to answer correctly gets to keep the card.

Make sure everyone has equal playing time.  Go around the circle until you exhaust the deck or reach a time limit. At the end of the game, count your cards.

The player that has the most cards wins the game and REALLY KNOWS THEIR FAMILY!

You can twist up this game in various ways. Ideas for playing include…

  • Play kids vs parents – which set of family members will get the glory of the win?
  • Play vs the clock – create rapid-fire questions with each answer or challenge having a time limit.
  • Play in pairs – pair up players especially if younger players might need older kids or adults to help them.

Ready to spread joy this spring season? Just like You’ve Been Booed and You’ve Been Elfed, why not something fun for the spring holiday? Leave this “You’ve Been Egged!” Easter gift idea on someone’s yard this weekend! Read on for the full details so you can start a fun Easter tradition surprise Easter Egg hunt with your family and friends!

I have good news. With this Easter tradition, Egging does not refer to the act of throwing eggs at houses, cars, or people. This is the act of paying it forward with a random act of kindness… no malicious and foolish egging someone on here! Let’s learn more about what does you’ve been egged mean?

What is You Have Been Egged?

youve been egged easter tradition

Have you ever been boo-ed? If so you will recognize the idea of this Easter activity. You’ve Been Egged is a fun spring tradition to spread the Easter spirit. It’s the act of surprising unsuspecting neighbors and friends with a small Easter egg hunt and fun surprises.

Similar to ding-dong-ditch only by leaving behind a fun treat for others to enjoy. With this cute idea, friends, family, and neighbors leave unsuspected gifts on someone’s doorstep or yard. They ring the doorbell and allow the recipient to discover the Easter surprise. Then, the lucky receiver is expected to pay it forward in a similar fashion to another person in the neighborhood (or group of friends.)

Wondering how you’ve been egged works? Let me explain the supplies and instructions so you too can do this fun Easter activity this spring.

What’s Needed for You’ve Been Egged Gift

Gift Basket Ideas

For this activity, no Easter basket is needed. You simply need the right number of eggs (12) and the printable set. However, if you want to include a special treat, a gift basket can hold a fun surprise and the “you’ve been egged” door sign. Just lay it on the front porch and ring the doorbell and run.

Quietly create your Easter egg hunt with 12 hidden eggs on your friend’s lawn or front yard. Once that is done, lay down your small easter basket (if there is one) on your neighbor’s doorstep. Then quickly creep up to the house and ring the doorbell or knock very hard. Then run back to your house or car and go. You don’t want them o see you and know who egged their home.

So they can pass along the fun, the directions for egging and passing along the game are included in the Easter printable sign. They will know how to play based on your actions as well as we’ve been egged printable instructions.

First, the printable set reads…

fun playing card games to play with a standard deck

Family games are loved by many. They create quality time and long-lasting memories. In fact, in the United States, 4.2% of families own between 51-75 games! That is a lot of money and a lot of waste for items that sit untouched on a shelf. Instead of buying tons of family board games, grab a $0.97 pack of playing cards for priceless fun and take a look at all the endless possibilities.

So you want to play card games with the family…

Kid-friendly playing card games are great family activities. What makes them great is they require only one supply… a 52-deck of cards from Ace to King (and perhaps a few enthusiastic players!) A Bicycle cards deck is easy to find in stores or online and takes up very little space. In addition, there is an endless list of card games with a standard deck. A standard deck of cards can create easy games that are fun for all.

Games not only fabricate family bonding, but they also build essential life skills. Games increase hand-eye coordination, provide opportunities for wins and losses, resolve conflicts and showcase teamwork.  Games can cultivate decision-making skills, gift the ability to multi-task and create logic and problem-solving. All of which are life-long skills.

First, get to to know the lingo…

Playing Card Game Terms

list of vocabulary words for playing card games

before you begin, it’s important to know a few key playing card terms. Understanding card game language will help you understand the concept of a card game and game instructions. You might even use a few of these card-playing phrases as a gameplay tactic of intimidation (wink!)

What are some fun cards games for families?

standard deck card games for families to play

Now that we realize the benefits of playing card games, let’s take a look at some of the best family card games to play. Many of these card games for families are 2-person card games though most can be played with more. The only single-person card game is Solitaire and if you like solitaire, try Nerts as the concept is very similar only you are playing with opponents.

These deck of card games are great for kids, teens, youth, and even adults (did we include everyone? No the dog can’t play!) We list 20 fun card games families can play. Each includes the number of players and a brief description of the game. The printable playing cards games set will include the full game instructions as well as how to score multiple rounds of each game.

Let the games begin – good luck!

The popular card game for children, Go Fish can also be played with a 52-standard deck. Players work to get 4 cards of a kind.

Number of Players: 2 or more.

If the player gets the cards they asked for, either from the top card of the deck or from another player, then the player gets another turn. Solitaire

how to play solitaire one person playing card game

Solitaire is the most popular online card game. It can be played most anywhere and only needs one player to play. The classic card game of Solitare has a lot of action with thirteen stacks or places cards can lay. The goal of the game is to move all the cards to four piles in order with the same suit.

Number of Players: One.

How to Play: The objective of Solitaire is to release and play into position certain cards to build up each foundation, in sequence and in a suit, from the ace through the king. Cards are laid out in a unique format including stock, waste, foundations, and a tableau. The goal is to move all the cards to four foundations without getting stuck with no more moves available to play.

Nerts

how to play nerts playing card game

Nerts is also called the Peanuts card game. One is the loneliest number you’ll ever do… If you like the game of Solitaire but have an interest in playing with more than one player, the game of Nerts is for you. Instead of having an individual foundations pile, the pile of Aces is shared by all players and anyone can play on the foundations. In this game of group Solitaire, each player has a deck of cards.

Number of Players: 2 to four.

How to Play:  This is a fast-paced multiplayer card game involving multiple decks of playing cards. It is often described as a competitive form of Solitaire. Players race to get rid of all their cards in their Nerts pile by stacking cards into foundations or work piles. The player who moves the most cards to the foundation’s pile typically has the highest score though being left with a nerts pile at the end of play will cause players to lose points.

Kings Corner

Two or more players will work toward getting the king cards into a corner and then play cards in ascending order K-Q-J-10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-A (ace low).

Number of Players: 2 to four.

How to Play: To begin, deal seven cards to each player. Place the remaining cards in the middle of the table as a stockpile and then turn the four top cards over, placing one on each of the four sides of the deck — to the north, south, east, and west. Players will each take turns moving cards around on the board, drawing cards, and unloading cards in their hand. The first person to get rid of all their cards wins.

Crazy Eights

how to play crazy eights card game

The game Crazy 8s gets its unique name because it’s a game where 8s are the wild card. Each player wants to rid their hands of cards.

Number of Players: 2 or more.

How to Play: Each player is dealt five cards at a time. Players take turns to play down a card in a shared discard pile.  The card laid down must match the value of the card under it or the same suit. If they cannot lay down a card, that player must draw a card until they can play. Eights are wild. The first player to rid of all their cards wins. The remaining players total the cards that remain in their hand.

Guts

how to play guts playing card game

Don’t be intimidated by this occasion game. Guts is a actually very fun, family-friendly card game. Don’t let the name fool you. It’s nothing nasty. No vomiting is included.  This easy poker game does include poker chips (or use candy – why not?) and a declaration of being “in” or “out” based on the hand you were dealt. What makes it easier than a 5-card poker casino-style game? In this two-card game, only two cards are dealt before bets are made.

Number of Players: 2 or more.

How to Play: The dealer deals each player two cards. After seeing their two cards, players say “in” or “out” and toss in their ante (candy or poker chips) to the pot. The players show their hands. The best two-card hand wins. If no one has a pair, card combinations are compared. A higher pair trumps a lower pair. A high card and additional single care are then compared side by side first paying attention to the highest card amount opponents and then the additional card amount opponents.

Spoons

how to play spoons playing card game

In this action-packed game, players pass around cards to make four of a kind. Be the last to spell S-P-O-O-N and win the game. Speaking of guts, this game has the potential to make your spill your guts when crazy concoctions are made on a spoon for the looser (this part is optional)

Number of Players: 3 or more.

How to Play: in this quick-thinking game, players pass around cards to their left. Each player lays one card face down to the player beside them. That player picks up, keeps, or passes the card again. The first player that gets four of a kind grabs a spoon. The last player to get a spoon gets a letter. Spell SPOON and you are out of the game.

Hearts

how to play hearts playing card game

Many are familiar with the online card game of Hearts. The goal is to avoid getting hearts or the queen of spades. In this trick-taking game, if you get a hand with the Queen of spades, you get 13 points added to your total. Get a heart and get one point. The exception is when you get all the hearts and the queen of spades gives all your opponents all the points. The lowest points wins.

Number of Players: 3 or more. Four is best.

How to Play: Deal all players with an equal number of cards. Each player takes three cards and passes the card to their neighbor (to their left, right, or across.) The player with the 2 of clubs starts the game. The remaining players play a club, as well. The person who takes that hand last down the next card, any card is possible. All players must play the same suit. If you cannot play a suit you can play a card like a queen of spades or a heart card. In this trick-taking card game, be the player to get the least amount of points when totaled to win the game.

Spades

how to play spades playing card game

Similar to hearts only the goal is to win tricks and end up with the most card and points.

Number of Players: 3 or more. Four is best.

How to Play: Once the cards are equally passed out, each player bids on how many books they can win in the game. Bid more than you actually win and lose points. Players take turns playing cards to win a round. The highest card of a played suit wins however if a player uses a spade, it trumps the hands. Points are calculated at the end of all the rounds and the first player to get to 500 points after consecutive games, wins.

Trash

how to play trash playing card game

The trash game of cards is also card garbage. Start with ten cards in the first round and make it all the way to the last one of trying to get only one card played.

Number of Players: Two or more.

How to Play: Each player gets 10 cards placed face down. Each player gets a turn using their stock deck and discard pile. Players begin to rotate cards in and out of their ten face-down cards to get cards A  (low) to 10 in a face-up position. Jacks are wild, and Kings and Queens are useless. The first player to get to ten cards in a row on their layout, wins.  Play again with a layout of 9, 8, 7… all the way down to one card left to win.

The player that has the least points (furthest from 31 loses a life.) Lose 4 lives and you are out of the game.

The number of players and how to play each game was a brief explanation. On our printable family card games, each game is on one 8.5 x 11 page with a full description of the goal, card game rules, glossary terms, and scoring. As a bonus, get a printable 52 deck of cards too or make your own game cards.

Can this anyone play these card games?

Yes! Anyone can play these kid-friendly card games. In fact, I was aware of all of these playing card games and never played with my parents growing up. While this game is fun for the whole family, I played many of these games with friends. My love for every one of these fun standard deck card games was grown from summer camp.
