How To Cut Vinyl in Cricut Design Space

How To Cut Vinyl on your Cricut machine with complete confidence! Cut vinyl in this step-by-step Cricut Design Space tutorial on Frugal Coupon Living.

How To Cut Vinyl in Cricut Design Space

The possibilities for creation with your Cricut machine is limitless. There is so much you can make for yourself, your family, and friends once you better understand how to use your machine.

Cutting and decorating with vinyl is no exception. This lightweight crafting material makes the perfect add-on to any decoration in your home, and today I’ll be showing you, step-by-step how to cut vinyl in Cricut Design Space.

How to Cut Vinyl in Cricut Design Space

You’ll first want to connect your machine to your laptop or smartphone. Once your Cricut machine is connected, go ahead and log into Design Space and select “New Project.”

Most of the time when you create with vinyl you’re doing projects with text rather than shapes. For this tutorial, you’ll want to select the text button and type in the words you would like your Cricut machine to cut for your completed project.

Pro Tip: if you plan on using a phrase such as, “Our home is built on love” to add to your living room, and you know you want the words “home” and “love” to be a cute scripted font and the other words to be a standard font, then I recommend adding the words “home” and “love” together. Then add the words “our is built on” with the standard font you’d like to compliment your scripted font.

It’s perfectly okay if the phrase you want to use isn’t in a complete sentence in Design Space. You’ll be in charge of assembling the sentence after printing the words on the vinyl.

For the rest of this tutorial, we will use the word, “Queen” as an example.

After you type in the word you’d like to use your font in Design Space is a standard font. In order to change the font to meet your project’s standards, you’ll go to the top of your screen and select “fonts.”

You can either buy fonts from Cricut or if you’d like to use the fonts already on your computer (that are completely free) then select “systems” to change the style you’d like.

I love how Design Space will show you an example of what the font looks like before you select an option to give you a visual to meet your project’s needs.

Once you have your font chosen for your project, you’ll want to click on your main word and move the word on your screen so you can keep working on your project. This will allow you to add more words (if you’re wanting to design a cute quote).

Also, you’ll want to use the blue arrow in the bottom right corner to make your font bigger or smaller depending on your projects needs. This option is also available at the top of your screen, but I have found the blue arrow to be a faster option.

Once your word is the size you want, you’ll want to click on the word and look to the right side of your screen. Double check to make sure the font has the scissors for the “cut” option rather than the print, write, or text options also available to you. This is telling Design Space that you want your Cricut machine to “cut” this word.

Pro Tip: You can (and should) change the project color to match the color of the vinyl you’re using for your project. This is perfect and will help save your sanity when it comes time to cut on your Cricut machine. When you have multiple words and you change the color of each word, this tells your machine that you’ll need multiple “mats” or “cuts” for your project.

Once you’re happy with your project you’ll select the green “make it” button in the top right-hand corner of your screen. You’ll also want to take the time to select the number of copies you’d like to make of your project and select “continue” in the bottom right hand corner.

Once your machine connects to your laptop or smartphone, go ahead and select the vinyl option from the list available. You’ll then want to place your vinyl on your cutting mat with the color facing up towards you.

Follow the cutting instructions on the Cricut machine by inserting your cutting mat, waiting for the machine to cut, and inserting additional colors of vinyl if needed.

Once all your vinyl for your project is cut, then apply to your object, whether you’re decorating your wall, a pillow, a mug, or anything else, and enjoy your new creation!

Stuck On You Labels Review.

Does the phrase Stuck on You remind anyone else of a Lionel Richie song? I admit, as I was working on this post I might have had the chorus running through my head…. like all day.

From the time my oldest was little, I always had labels. Most of the time the labels were used for tupperware and their bottles/sippy cups. Other creative places I have put labels are their shoes, the tag of their shirt/coat, the handle of their umbrellas and inside their backpacks. Honestly, to have a label that can go all of these places has been such a blessing in keeping the kids stuff identifiable as well as distinct.

Stuck on You has a huge range of quality kids name labels, tags & iron on clothing labels. These labels are water proof, smudge proof and ADORABLE!

I really love their value kits. My favorite has the be the adorable Baby Label Pack for $29.95 (save 49.9% off MSRP).

Baby Label Kit includes…

  • 26 Medium Name Labels
  • 100 Mini Iron On Labels
  • 26 Medium Round Name Labels
  • 1 Personalized Bag Tag

I pick up Medium Labels for the boys. The two designs are Glip Glops (monster) and Space Journey in Notch Font.

Whether they’re going to school, daycare, nursery or staying home, Stuck on You has a label to suit your every need. Pick a label, design, personalize and order today!

Australia based Stuck On You was founded in 1995 by Carrie Felton, a mom of three boys. A global leader in personalized products for baby & beyond, Stuck On You products are available in more than 15 countries. Felton created Stuck On You to celebrate the individuality of every name, bring joy to new parents with unique, timeless products for every child, save families time, energy and money and help them to lead a more organized life. MAM Pacifiers and Bottles

MAM Pacifiers and Bottles Review – My opinion on MAM Soothers and Bottles.

Hey there (wave), not a new mom here! This mom has tried most every pacifier and most every bottle in her 9 years of parenting five kids. I have had some pretty good runs with many brands but the only brand that all five of my kids used over my (almost) 10 years of parenting is MAM. Each of my children, from birth, has responded well to the MAM pacifier nipple. If the shape worked well for the pacifier, it also became the shape we used for the bottle. I personally loved the cute designs for both the bottles and the pacis. I also love the soft nipple. It was firm enough to slide into my baby’s mouth, but it also was gentle enough to soothe and provide comfort when feeding or sucking.

First the Soother (Pacifier)

MAM has worked closely with with designers and orthodontists. They have designed their soothers to anatomically correct to allow healthy jaw and teeth development. The paci’s come in different sizes perfect for all levels of age and comfort.

Soothers have skin soft silicon that feels like mom and is easily accecpted by babies (I have found this to be true!)

Sizes: The soothers come in different sizes 0-2 months, 2 to 6 months, 6+ months and 16+ months.

I personally am in love with these personalized soothers for the twins (did you get my Instagram story?). What twin mom doesn’t need these in her home. Perfect for keeping the same paci for the same kid and also great for grandparents (who also struggle identifying who is who!) Want one too? MAM pacifiers can have the name of the baby or certain sayings added to them. And even the practical MAM clip can be embroidered. Making things unmistakeably distinctive and identifiable!

If you don’t wish to grab a personalized paci, they have so many cute pacifiers. From ones that glow in the dark to adorable forest animals,

MAM pacifiers are BPA and BPS free!

Second the Bottle

This go around (with the twins), they were born early and had a terrible time latching. This put me on a breast pump routine and the twins drinking through a bottle. Unlike with my first three babies, we tried 4 types of bottles with the boys. I wanted to use the bottle they responded best. Victory with MAM!

MAM has the perfect product for babies of all ages and this makes it easy for them to learn how to drink. Babies learn the transition from breastfeeding or a baby bottle to a glass step by step. All MAM drinking vessels are BPA free and safe for babies.

The MAM bottles have different teats (nipples). Choose between size 1, 2, 3 and X as well as transitional nipples for those growing out of bottles. Teat 1 is for 0+ months. Teat 2 is for 2+ months. Teat 3 is for 4+ months. Lastly, teat X is for 6+ months. All have a unique flat shape that always fits perfectly in baby´s mouth. Once your child is around 12 months, consider moving out of the bottle nipple and trying out the extra soft bottle spout. This spout can actually be used as early as 4+ months of age.

The smaller MAM bottles, as seen above, come in 4 pieces. Two pieces for the base. The base ventilation systems provides a smooth milk flow which reduces air swallowed by baby, gas and burp.

Did you know!? Bottles can be self-sterilized in the microwave. Follow these 3 easy steps. Fill the base with 20 ml of water.  Lay the nipple and nipple ring in the base of the bottle. Place the bottle on top followed by the cap and heat in the microwave for 3 minutes!

About MAM

MAM combines technological innovation, medical function and contemporary design to develop superior baby care products that support a baby’s development from day one. Since MAM developed its first pacifier in Vienna in 1976, it has evolved to become a global authority on baby care product design and quality. Today MAM products are used by families in over 60 countries and on six continents. Creative Bullet Journal Ideas and Planner Spreads to organize your life. Inspiring layouts you can copy and do yourself! Perfect for your diary, journal, planner, calendar and more

Bullet Journal Ideas & Planner Spreads You Can Copy

I am not a bullet journalist (is that the correct term.) In fact, I got a planner in 2015 (yes, I remember the year) and didn’t make it past January. This is my 10th year of blogging, and I think due to the amount of time I am online each day, I use digital calendars over your traditional paper in pen.

The Bullet Journal is a customizable and forgiving organization system. It can be your to-do list, sketchbook, notebook, and diary, but most likely, it will be all of the above. It will teach you to do more with less. Despite the fact, I am not a “team player” when it comes to planner spreads and bullet journals, I did have fun with my research in this round-up. First, if you are new to bullet journaling, get familiar with the acronym bujo or hashtag #bujo – bullet journaling. I did notice a lot of the bullet journal ideas were international, are most other northern Americans also not creating bullet journals? Raise your hand if you live in the USA and bullet journal – if you look dumb raising you hand in the middle of Starbucks, just leave a comment and tell me you do (and perhaps some of your favorite resources!)

Powered by Creative Market

These bullet journal ideas were very inspiring. I noticed for planners, many of you love the Erin Condren Life Planner. When it comes to Bullet Journaling, there are a lot of resources available online. From stickers, to printables, to stencils (for the perfectionists!) It really is a creative outlet and a great way to remain organized!

When journaling, I read that the right pen is a must – take a look at the the black Sakura Micron Pens in a variety of sizes. As a former teacher and pen connoisseur myself, I personally love these Dual Tip Watercolor Brush Markers and these Dual Tip Brush Marker Pens.

Enjoy!

April Fools' Day Candy Grapes

April Fools’ Day Candy

Supplies:

  • Small Bunch Green Grapes
  • Foil
  • Permanent Markers in Assorted Colors
  • 1 bag Easter Candy with foil wrappers
  • Optional: Plastic Eggs

How to make a Easter April Fools' Joke

Directions:

  1. Cut 2 ½” X 2 ½” squares from the foil. Cut out as many as you would like to make. Have one square per grape you intend to wrap.
  2. Use the markers and color one side of the foil squares with Sharpie Markers and let dry for a few minutes.
  3. Unwrap the Easter candy from the decorative foil, be careful not to rip the wrappers. Flatten them out a little so the wrinkles aren’t too bad.
  4. Using the foils from the purchased candy and the foils you made with Sharpie markers, wrap one grape into each foil. They should look like the little chocolate eggs in the foils you can buy at Easter time.
  5. Put them in a dish (or Easter Egg) and serve them.
  6. Everyone will think they are getting a chocolate candy, but they will be unwrapping a grape.
  7. Now just say “April Fools!”

Optional: Place chocolate covered grapes in plastic Easter eggs.

Fig Newtons Easter Bible Cookies Ingredients

Directions:

  1. Outline the top of a Fig Newton cookie with a thin rectangle frame of decorator’s icing. This can be in any color that you like, but we prefer white.
  2. Next, make two vertical lines with icing on either end of one side of the cookie. This will make the spine of your Bible.
  3. Draw a cross with icing in the middle of the top of your Fig Newton cookie.
  4. Cut a small rectangle shape from a Fruit Roll Up. Gently push it into the filling on top of the cookie. This will be the top of your bookmark for the Bible.
  5. Cut another rectangle from the Fruit Roll Up, but this time, cut a small triangle out of the bottom edge of it. Gently push this piece into the filling on the bottom of the cookie so that it sticks out slightly. This will be the bottom of the bookmark in your Bible cookie.
  6. Stick the cookies in the fridge or freezer for a bit to let the icing start to harden, or serve immediately.
