Every little girl loves a good fairy tale, so why not turn your scout into a princess? This theme can run throughout the season, with your elf dressing up and acting the part each day.

Ideas for Princess-Themed Elf Activities:

  • Princess Makeover: Set up a mini beauty salon where your elf gives herself a royal makeover. Use doll-sized accessories like a tiny mirror, a comb, and a crown.
  • Royal Ball: Stage a mini royal ball with your elf dancing with other toys dressed as her royal court. You can even leave a note inviting your daughter to dress up as a princess for a special tea party.
  • Rescue Mission: Create a scene where your elf saves a stuffed animal or doll trapped in a castle (a cardboard box works great). Your daughter can help with the rescue!

Accessories to Use:

  • Tiny tiaras, sparkly dresses, and even miniature wands or swords can add to the princess vibe.

How did he do that? Create a fun holiday scene with this unique idea for The Elf on the Shelf! Your holiday helper does a cannonball dive into a pool, complete with a judging elf and a perfect “10” rating. New creative, funny, and original Ideas for the Christmas Elf daily.

Want new ideas for the famly elf in your inbox daily in the month of November & December? Sign up here!

Disclosure: Frugal Coupon Living (the website, blog, and all social media channels) is not associated with CCA and B, LLC d/b/a The Lumistella Company, home of the official The Elf on the Shelf and Scout Elf.

This clever and fun idea for The Elf on the Shelf, shared by Elf genius Clare S., is a creative way to add some excitement to your elf’s holiday antics. In this unique scene, your Christmas companion appears to be doing a cannonball dive, levitating in mid-air. (The reminds me a lot of the levitating Cereal Trick.) Using clear fishing line, The Elf on the Shelf is suspended from the light, creating the illusion of a perfect cannonball dive into a “pool” made of water colored with blue food coloring. A second elf stands nearby, holding up a “10” rating sign, adding to the fun as if judging the dive. A small plastic cup acts as the diving board stand, making this scene complete with playful details. The best part? The tiny speech bubble attached to the fishing line reads, “Cannon Ball!” making this a hilarious and memorable elf scene.

How to Set Up The Elf on the Shelf Cannon Ball Dive

This elf idea brings a playful twist to your holiday fun. The key is to make your festive scout look like he’s mid-jump, diving into the sink filled with “pool water” made of blue-colored water. The clear fishing line gives the illusion of your tiny scout floating in mid-air, while the judging elf adds an extra layer of humor. Whether your elf is hanging from a kitchen light or another spot, this cannonball dive will definitely grab the attention of your kids and give them a good laugh.

Supplies Needed for Your Christmas Elf’s Cannonball Dive

  • The Elf on the Shelf Doll (x2)
  • Cardstock or paper (this is the best cardstock which is perfect for your fun printables)
  • Scissors
  • Clear Tape
  • Clear fishing line or string
  • Blue food coloring
  • Plastic cup
  • Wooden craft sticks
  • Markers

Instructions for Staging the Levitating Elf Cannonball

  1. Start by filling the sink with water and adding a few drops of blue food coloring to create the look of a swimming pool.
  2. Place a small plastic cup upside down near the edge of the sink. Cut out a small piece of cardstock to act as the diving board and place it on top of the cup.
  3. Use clear fishing line to tie around your family elf, securing him in a cannonball position. Attach the fishing line to a light fixture or other overhead structure to make it look like your little guy is mid-dive.
  4. Create a small speech bubble out of cardstock, writing “Cannon Ball!” in the bubble. Attach this speech bubble to the fishing line using clear tape.
  5. For the judging elf, have a second elf hold up a “10” rating sign. You can create this sign by writing the number 10 on cardstock and attaching it to a wooden craft stick. Position the judging elf nearby, holding the sign up proudly.
  6. Stand back and admire your festive scout’s impressive cannonball dive, complete with a judging elf and a fun swimming pool scene.

This imaginative Christmas elf setup will bring plenty of giggles to your household. It’s a fun and creative way to engage your kids and keep the holiday excitement alive!

The Elf on the Shelf Magic Trick Note: For this hack for The Elf on the Shelf, it would be very good to have Elf hands that can connect together.

If you’re looking for a new and hilarious way to surprise your kids with The Elf on the Shelf this year, we have an adorable idea that will definitely bring some giggles. In this setup, one of Santa’s helpers is rolling out another elf! It’s simple, fun, and requires only a few basic items you likely already have around the house.

Rolling Out the Festivities with Your Elf

Imagine waking up to find that your little guy has decided to help out in the “kitchen” and is getting some holiday baking done. One elf is holding a rolling pin, while the other is getting “flattened” inside a pair of Christmas pajama pants! It’s a delightful way to showcase your Christmas elf’s playful spirit. And here’s the best part—you can easily use your child’s pajama pants, or if you have 18-inch doll pajamas, they work great too.

This clever setup is perfect for any North Pole visitor looking to make a grand entrance or return to the family after a night of holiday mischief. It’s a light-hearted way to add some festive cheer to your home, and your little ones will love the creativity!

How to Stage Your Rolling Elf Setup

This holiday idea is so simple yet so charming. Plus, you don’t need much to make it happen. Your tiny scout will look like they’ve been hard at work all night, rolling out another elf for some holiday fun. Whether you’re using your favorite Yuletide elf or the jolly sprite you bring out every year, this idea is bound to be a hit!

Here’s how you can stage this merry scene with your holiday helper.

Supplies You’ll Need

  • Two Elf Dolls (The Elf on the Shelf)
  • Rolling Pin
  • Christmas Pajama Pants (18-inch doll pajama pants work great or use your child’s pajama pants)

Instructions for Setting Up Your Holiday Scene

  1. Find a spot: Choose a fun and visible place where your elves will be seen easily, such as the kitchen counter, dining table, or even under the Christmas tree.
  2. Dress one elf: Place one miniature elf inside the Christmas pajama pants, so it looks like they’ve been “flattened” or “rolled out.”
  3. Position the second elf: Take your merry messenger or red guy and give them the rolling pin. Place this little visitor right behind the pajama-clad elf as if they’re rolling them flat with the rolling pin.
  4. Stage the pants: Make sure the pajama pants are laid out straight so it looks like the tiny elf is being stretched out or rolled flat.
  5. Add finishing touches: Adjust the rolling pin and pants to ensure everything is in place. You can even add some flour or holiday sprinkles around the scene for an extra festive touch!
  6. Enjoy the laughter: Once the scene is set, sit back and wait for your kids to discover what Santa’s little friend has been up to!

This playful and imaginative idea is the perfect way to bring some jolly spirit into your home this season. Your kids will love waking up to see what their cheerful companion is up to each day. Plus, this setup is an easy and fun way to reuse Christmas pajamas and showcase your elf’s festive personality. Happy Elf-ing!

The elf on the shelf tape measure idea

Looking for a new and unique way to bring some festive fun into your home this holiday season? We’ve got just the thing! In this playful scene, your Christmas elf swings from a tape measure, bringing holiday mischief to your kitchen cabinets. Using a few simple supplies, you can easily set up this creative idea and watch the smiles spread across your family’s faces. Here’s how to recreate this adorable idea with The Elf on the Shelf!

How to Stage the Tape Measure Elf Scene

What’s better than catching your North Pole visitor hanging out on a tape measure, mid-adventure? This easy and delightful setup will surely surprise your kids and bring an extra dash of excitement to your Christmas mornings. Whether you’ve got one jolly sprite or two, this idea is perfect for doubling the fun!

To pull off this idea, simply hang a tape measure from your kitchen cabinet with the help of clear packing tape, lock the tape measure in place, and pose your workshop elf as though they’re scaling the cabinets. It’s an easy way to add a little extra joy and whimsy to your holiday home!

Adding Extra Fun to Your Holiday Mischief

Why stop at just one merry messenger when you can have two? We doubled the fun in this scene by using two tape measures and two holiday helpers. Each tiny elf hung from their own tape measure, creating a fun race up and down the cabinets. It’s a simple but fun way to add extra holiday magic to your home.

The little guys can be staged in a variety of poses—maybe they’re climbing their way to Santa’s cookie stash, or perhaps they’re racing to see who can get to the top of the cabinet first! Either way, this idea is sure to spark giggles and excitement as the countdown to Christmas continues.

Supplies Needed for This Tape Measure Elf Idea

  • The Elf on the Shelf (or two for double the fun!)
  • Tape Measure(s)
  • Clear Packing Tape

Step-by-Step Instructions for Setting Up the Scene

  1. Gather your supplies: Grab one or two tape measures, clear packing tape, and your festive scout(s).
  2. Secure the tape measure: Extend the tape measure to your desired length, lock it in place, and use clear packing tape to attach it securely to the kitchen cabinet. Make sure the tape measure hangs vertically so your tiny scout has room to “climb.”
  3. Position the elf: Once the tape measure is securely attached, carefully place your jolly sprite onto the tape measure. You can position them as if they’re climbing up or down, holding on for dear life, or even hanging by one hand for added drama.
  4. Double the fun (optional): If you’re using two holiday mischief-makers, repeat the steps with a second tape measure and second Scout Elf doll. Set them up on opposite cabinets or next to each other to make it look like they’re racing.
  5. Enjoy the laughter: Sit back and watch the excitement unfold as your family finds their merry messengers mid-adventure!

This scene is a quick and easy way to add some holiday cheer to your kitchen, and it’ll certainly give your family something to smile about. Happy elfing!

make a jenga tower with kit kats and the elf on the shelf

The holiday season is all about creating magical memories, and what better way to do so than with a fun (and delicious) activity for The Elf on the Shelf? In this cute idea, our favorite little friend, The Elf on the Shelf, is caught playing a classic game of Jenga! But here’s the twist—this Jenga tower is built with Kit-Kat bars! Your child will be delighted to see their North Pole visitor having a blast with a favorite toy or stuffed animal.

This idea is so simple and easy to set up, but it brings big joy and holiday cheer to your home. And the best part? You can customize the Elf’s Jenga buddy to be any friend your child adores—whether it’s Mario, a stuffed animal, a Barbie, or a plastic dinosaur! Let’s dive into how to bring this festive scene to life.

How to Stage an Elf Jenga Scene with Kit-Kats

kit kat jenga game with The elf on the shelf

Staging The Elf on the Shelf in a fun and creative scene is a great way to build excitement and anticipation for your kids. For this idea, we’re turning Kit-Kats into building blocks and having your cheerful companion play a friendly game of Jenga. Here’s how to create the magic:

  1. Choose a Playful Friend for Your Elf
First, pick a companion for your workshop elf to play with. This could be a small stuffed animal, an action figure, or any toy that your child loves. The key is making the scene relatable and fun for your child by using a toy they’ll recognize.
  2. Build the Chocolate Jenga Tower
Grab some Kit-Kat bars and break them apart into individual sticks. Arrange them into a mini Jenga tower on a small plate. You can make the tower as tall or short as you want, but leaving a few pieces out to look like the game is mid-play makes the scene more believable!
  3. Set Up Your Elf and Friend
Place your red guy and their chosen playmate on either side of the Kit-Kat tower as if they’re in the middle of a heated (but friendly) game. For added fun, you can position The Elf on the Shelf with a Kit-Kat piece in hand, showing that the game is in full swing!
  4. Add Some Extra Flair
To make the scene even more festive, sprinkle in some holiday decor like mini Christmas trees, festive garland, or even a small notecard with a playful message from your jolly sprite.

Making This Scene Even More Magical

What makes this holiday mischief-maker idea stand out is how customizable it is! You can tailor it to fit your child’s personality by changing the game pieces or even the snacks. Have a Lego-loving kid? Try using blocks instead of Kit-Kats! Or switch out the Jenga game for a holiday-themed setup, like your miniature elf making cookies or building a snowman out of marshmallows. The possibilities are endless, and your child will love seeing their North Pole visitor in action.

Supplies You’ll Need

To bring this adorable scene to life, here’s what you’ll need:

  • The Elf on the Shelf Doll
Your tiny scout is the star of the show! Place your elf in the perfect spot, ready to win this playful game.
  • Kit-Kats
These delicious treats double as the Jenga blocks! Use as many as you’d like to stack them up into a mini tower.
  • A Plate
To keep things tidy (and believable), place the Kit-Kat Jenga tower on a small plate.
  • A Friend for The Elf on the Shelf
Whether it’s a stuffed animal, a plastic action figure, or even another holiday character, this friend will add to the fun.

Instructions for Staging This Idea

  1. Find a Spot: Pick a spot in your home where your kids will easily spot the festive scout and the game, like the kitchen counter or a playroom table.
  2. Break Kit-Kats Apart: Break apart a few Kit-Kat bars to use as your Jenga pieces.
  3. Stack the Jenga Tower: Start building your Jenga tower with the Kit-Kat pieces. Make sure to leave a few pieces scattered around as if the game is in progress.
  4. Set the Scene: Place your merry messenger on one side of the tower and your chosen friend (Barbie, Mario, or a stuffed animal) on the other.
  5. Add Extra Decorations: If you want to enhance the scene, add small festive items like Christmas lights, ornaments, or holiday snacks. You can even leave a fun note from the jolly sprite saying, “Game on! Who do you think will win?”
  6. Snap a Photo: Don’t forget to take a picture of the final setup! Your child will love seeing this north pole visitor in action, and you’ll have a sweet memory to look back on.

This adorable Elf Jenga idea is sure to bring smiles and laughter to your home. Your little visitor will be the talk of the day as they playfully challenge their toy friend in a delicious game of Kit-Kat Jenga. Whether you go for a sweet version like Kit-Kats or swap in other building materials, the magic of The Elf on the Shelf is in how it can turn even the simplest moments into something extraordinary!

For a fun follow-up, check out our The Elf on the Shelf Chocolate Coma idea! After a big game of Kit-Kat Jenga, your little guy can be found lying down, surrounded by all the leftover chocolate in a sweet, sleepy scene. Perfect for the next day’s adventure!

clues for a candy cane treasure hunt

Once you gather your miniature elf props and supplies, here are a few ideas to inspire your holiday planning:

1. Morning Surprise Scavenger Hunt

Set up the scavenger hunt the night before, and when your kids wake up, let the Christmas magic begin! Your Merry messenger can leave a note on the breakfast table inviting them to follow the candy cane clues. Start with the first pre-written clue card, which will guide your children to various spots around the house. The last clue leads to a stash of hidden candy canes, and your Yuletide elf can proudly hold the “Sweet victory awaits” sign to congratulate your little hunters!

2. Countdown to Christmas

Use the scavenger hunt as a fun countdown to Christmas! Hide one or two candy canes a day throughout the week. Each day, let your kids wake up to a new clue from your elf, with each hint leading them to a special candy cane. The Candy Cane Tracker will help them keep track of how many they’ve found, adding a playful countdown element to the days leading up to Christmas.

3. Group Hunt with Friends

Turn your family fun into a group activity by inviting friends or neighbors to join in! The editable invitations in the kit make it easy to plan a festive scavenger hunt party. Your North Pole visitor can take center stage, holding signs like “Follow the candy cane lane” as the kids run from room to room searching for hidden treats. The customizable clue cards also allow you to adapt the hunt to fit your home or outdoor spaces if you’re hosting a Christmas Party or neighborhood event.

4. Candy Cane Treasure in Unexpected Places

Get creative with your hiding spots! Maybe your festive scout will lead your kids to the fridge, a secret corner in the living room, or even under the Christmas tree! The clues can be as challenging or as simple as you want. You can hide candy canes in your child’s favorite book, under their pillow, or even in their winter boots. The more imaginative the locations, the more fun the hunt will be!

5. Elf Participation is Key

Make your family elf the star of the scavenger hunt! Set your Christmas companion up with one of the adorable signs from the set, adding extra magic to the experience. Santa’s helper could be found holding the “Finders keepers, sweet seekers” sign near the final candy cane stash, or they might be perched on the mantel with a “You’re so close, you can almost taste it” flag when the kids are nearing the finish line.

Personalizing Your Candy Cane Hunt at Home

While the kit comes with 36 pre-written clue cards, the 18 editable blank cards are perfect for personalizing your scavenger hunt. Tailor the clues to your family’s traditions and favorite hiding spots, use your Christmas elf’s name, or even add inside jokes. You can also use the blank cards to create a shorter or longer scavenger hunt, depending on how much time you want to spend searching for candy canes.

Some creative clue ideas might include:

  • “Where do we store our winter hats and gloves? Look inside for a sweet surprise!”
  • “Check under the white Christmas tree where gifts are placed, a candy cane treat will leave you amazed!”
  • “By the cookies, your dad loves is your next clue, a candy cane is hiding just for you!”
