How to Use the Back to School Games

There are several ways to use these games. You can have a fun last day of summer with your kids and some neighborhood friends or even help set these activities up for your child’s classroom.

The beginning of the school year can bring a lot of anxiety. For teachers, these back to school activities make great simple icebreakers or team-building games as students share a challenge and try to solve a task. It’s a great way to make a new friend as you introduce new classmates to you and the classroom. They might find school a fun place to return to!

They also make great back to school party games if you want to invite classmates over to meet before the first day of school too! Have so much fun playing games that are a bit school themed. End summer break and excite your child about their school supplies and the first day of school. You can even choose one of the games to play each day after school paired with a fun snack!

How to Play Minute-to-Win It Games

The basic idea of a minute to win it game, is you have 60 seconds to complete a challenge. You can complete the task before the time, or you can complete the task within the time.

How to Score

With each game, the adult (or individual in charge) decides how points are awarded. For example, the first person/team member that finishes gets 3 points, the next team 2 points, and the last team one point. Alternatively, you can award one point to anyone that finishes. This scoring system needs to be established ahead o the game so that there is no confusion as the games are played.

How to Establish Teams

Before the game begins, teams must also be established. You can play as an individual, in pairs, or even in teams.

Individual: For smaller groups of kiddos, individual rounds are best. This gives each player an opportunity to earn their own points and play each 60-second challenge. If any games call for multiple players, you will pair up for that game but each player will be awarded individual points for “winning” the challenge.

Pairs: Groups of 2 to four players are also good with small groups. This means each player will not participate in every game but rather a handful of the 18 back-to-school games. This is also a great way to pair younger kids with an older student or peer. Group members will be working on earning points for their team.

Team: If playing with a bunch of kids, large teams are best for group games. One member of the team will be selected for a challenge each round. If desired, you can do the challenge multiple times. Challenges are completed to declare yourself the winning team!

There’s no limit to the ways you can use these fun games so download the printable packet to get started!

More of the Best Games to Play at School

fun games to play at school for kids and teachers

Why are fun classroom games great for kids? Playing games releases endorphins aka happiness and thrill. When these endorphins are released, it’s a great time for connection with peers, friends, and new classmates. That makes the beginning of the year a perfect time for establishing relationships and teamwork through fun icebreakers. In addition, parents and educators can use holiday games for each new season to reconnect with brain breaks during those mid-year lulls.

Start the school year with some excitement. Enjoy these other kids’ games including back-to-school bingo, indoor games, games for a bunch of kids, and games perfect for a small family game night! Perhaps meet at the school playground for some fun water or outdoor games before that first-day bell or on that first Friday of school before the last bell rings for the week.

These are not your classic red light, green light games. Take a look at some of the best games to play at school or at a gathering with friends (old and new!)

So share with those physical education teachers or ask to borrow a few game supplies for these popular school playground games.

Indoor Games

We all know that rainy days come and those can be really stressful for teachers. Kids need active games however most teachers have a cabinet of kids’ board games. The truth is, kids need activity and a break from academics. If you are a parent reading this post, do your teacher a favor, and instead of grabbing board games off the teacher’s wish list, get this! Grab these ideas for indoor games, laminate the printable game instructions, and then gift them to him/her for optional games to play in the classroom on days when the weather is not participating (or is precipitating – see what I did there?) In addition to the printable games for school, including a few of the game supplies the teacher might not have in the classroom.

So, hear me out. Minute to Win it games are perfect for morality, but they also are perfect for a math lesson plan. If you are looking for math games, try these traditional Minute to Win it Games. Kids can use the minute to win it scorecard to keep track of points. Of course, the math on the 60-second challenge is also a fit. Use with a stopwatch lesson or as a reward for the end of a math section or good math test scores. Who wouldn’t love this reward that you could play the same games over and over throughout the year – kind of like your class’s thing – we think the other classes might be a little jelly (that’s jealous!) Drop the math facts nad try these!

Kids Party Games

It doesn’t have to be a birthday party to play games. These low-cost party games for kids can be used in the classroom too.  They offer clean fun using many common supplies found at home or in the school. Teachers can also request parents send in a few of the school supplies he/she doesn’t have. They won’t cost a lot.

Themed Bingo Games

Who doesn’t love a good game of BINGO? Take a look at these free printable bingo games for every season and every holiday of the year. Minute to Win it Graduation Games

Kids of all ages will enjoy these graduation minute to win it games. Use with 8th graders, 12th graders, 5th graders, or even kindergarten. To use with younger kids, pair them with their older buddies (do you meet with an older kids’ class of students) and let them have fun with these last day of school games for graduation. These are 60-second style or you can try out these Graduation Party Games too!

Playground Scavenger Hunt

printable park scavenger hunt games for kids at the park

There are a few ways to use this playground treasure hunt. Print multiple sets and split players into teams. Mix up the cards so each team is on a criss-cross of paths. It will never be clear who is in the lead. Alternatively, for variations, you can create this playground treasure hunt as a timed game so you are in a race to be the team that finishes first.

Lastly, while you are planning fun and excitement, start the first day of school off right. The start of the school year is a great time to create new memories. Take a look at these Memorable First Day of Schools Ideas and Traditions. Pin to Pinterest.

It’s the You’ve Been Booed of March. Pass on a bit of Irish luck to friends with this printable St. Patrick’s Day Tradition. Pass a sweet treat or pot of chocolate gold coins with a You’ve Been Shamrocked printable activity for St. Patty’s Day!

printable saint patrick's day tradition printable

Saint Patrick’s Day is an Irish holiday that has taken over America. Celebrated annually on March 17th, it is a celebration symbolized by the color green, Shamrocks, Leprechauns, cabbage peer, and gold coins.

Let’s take a look at a few traditions for St. Patty’s day. In addition, using our printable St. Patrick’s Day worksheet, see how you can celebrate the gift of St. Patrick with friends and family.

St. Patrick’s Day Facts

St Patricks Day facts with fun st Patricks day tradition

Let’s not get confused. With our printable St. Patrick’s Day tradition printable, I am not here to spill a bunch of St. Patty’s facts.

I don’t plan to tell you…

  • St. Patrick is the Patron Saint of Ireland. March 17 is a religious holiday in Ireland.
  • Saint Patrick was not Irish! He was from Great Britain.
  • On the Irish flag, green stands for Catholics, orange for protestants, and white for wish and harmony.
  • The folklore of St. Patrick banishing snakes from Ireland is false. There are no fossil records of snakes to support these legends.
  • The Chicago River has been dyed green for St. Patrick’s Day since 1962. The green river makes the city come alive every year through Irish Americans (and the  non-Irish too – wink!)
  • The Shamrock was considered a sacred plant that symbolized the arrival of spring. Four-leaf clovers are considered lucky.
  • The first, St. Patrick’s Day parade was held on March 17, 1601, in St. Augustine, Florida.
  • Ireland is known as the “Green Isle” or the “Emerald Isle.”

No, I am not here to tell you any of those fun St. Patrick’s Day facts. In fact, on this fun St. Patty’s Day printable, you won’t find any of those historical St. Patrick’s Day facts. Instead, you will get a really fun activity for the kids to do on March 17th.

What are some St. Patrick’s Day Traditions?

what are st patricks day traditions plus printable st patricks day activity

Before we get started on this super fun activity, let’s talk about a few traditions for St. Patrick’s Day. These traditions are typically held by many Americans who don’t even know the history and facts of the Irish holiday. However, there are many fun ways to embrace the traditions of Irish Culture in America.

Wear Green

You must wear green or get pinched! Who truly understands this wearing of the green pinch tradition, just wear the color.

Eat Irish Food

If you really want to celebrate St. Patty’s Day, you must eat an Irish meal. In North America, this typically consists of corned beef and cabbage. You can also try Irish soda bread, beer soup, food dyed green, or one of these many St. Patrick’s Day food ideas.

St. Patricks Day Parade

In some cities, you might find a St. Patrick’s Day Parade. If this doesn’t happen on the 17th of March, look for festivities the weekend ahead or after the exact date. Popular cities to watch a parade and celebrate the Irish people’s holiday are Boston, Chicago, New York City, Philadelphia, Cleveland, and Savannah.

Drink Beer

I don’t know why but did you really need a reason for a pint of Guinness to be a fun St. Patrick’s Day tradition? Beer sales worldwide increase by 174%, making it the busiest time of the year for several bars and pubs in the United States and Ireland.  Some pubs will even dye green beer. Celebrate in a bar or at home and incorporate a few pints with a beer flight tasting sheet plus a few fun Beer Games.

Catch a Leprechaun

The kids can participate by making their own leprechaun trap. Of course, ad an adult, we know he can never be trapped but left behind can be a few gold chocolate coins at the of a St. Patrick’s Day Treasure hunt.

Now on to the fun. Let’s make a new St. Patrick’s Day Tradition with family and friends. Get ready to spread shamrocks just like a little leprahucn.

Are you still with me after all those boring facts?

Secret Agent Training

Before starting the spy party games, you’ll want to have a little secret agent training for your guests. This will help them get into character and understand the rules of the games.

Explain that they are all undercover agents working for a secret organization. You can supply each child at the secret agent party with a manila envelope or folder. Use the Find Your Code Names PDF to get each agent’s spy name. Provide sharpies and name tags so that each agent can refer to the other players by their spy name.

They will have to have their photo taken so you can post it on the “Wanted” bulletin board. A small black briefcase is also a cool decoration if you have access to one.

  • Explain that they are all undercover agents working for a secret organization.
  • Give them their mission briefing and explain the rules of the game.
  • Distribute any props they will need for their mission, such as fake weapons, disguises, or ID cards.

The first game is always best to start with some training so that everyone is on the same page.

The following are some of the included unique ideas that are fun for kids of all ages.

Spy Game #1 – Pin the target on the enemy spy! Use a picture of an enemy spy, downloaded from the Internet or drawn yourself, and give every guest a target to pin onto it. Be sure to cover the agent’s eyes before they each pin their target onto the picture.

A birthday countdown is exciting. It creates anticipation and excitement. Take a look at these ideas for a birthday countdown that includes a buildup of excitement plus adorable birthday countdown gift tags.

birthday countdown ideas and printable birthday gift tags 1 to 40

Do you know one thing we all have in common? Everyone has a birthday. Some are celebrated more than others (can I get an Amen mamas?) Others are celebrated with sweet touches and thoughtful gifts.

Countdown Ideas for a Birthday

Birthday countdowns are exciting because they are visual representations of the timeline to the big day. They are especially good for younger kids but they can be exciting for teenagers and even adults. Count down the days until the actual date of the birthday or countdown the number of gifts – perfect for a milestone b-day.

In anticipation of an upcoming birthday for an extra special birthday boy or girl, try these Birthday Countdown ideas.

Numbered Birthday Cards

numbered birthday cards for a birthday countdown idea

Hit the Dollar store and grab a dozen or so birthday cards. Number them in order and write a special message on each card. The birthday girl or boy can open one birthday card each day until their birthday celebration. Instead of you writing all a dozen messages, have special family members, aquantiences, and friends write messages too. This can include coaches, teachers, friends, and family. Instead of receiving all their birthday cards in one day, they receive them slowly allowing the recipient to savor each message.

Gift Cards For Each Year

one gift cards for each year of life for a birthday countdown idea

Grab gift cards as a build-up to the special occasion. This is especially fun for a milestone birthday. For example, for a ten-year-old birthday present idea, have ten gift cards. Ten days before your child’s birthday, give them a new gift card each day. These gift cards can be small and large all the way from $5 to $20. They don’t have to be the same amount. Or for younger kids, give them a gift card the value of their age. So for a sweet 16 birthday, gift sixteen $16 gift cards. You can have duplicates to places like Amazon or Starbucks if you want the values to add up.

Birthday Advent Calendar

happy birthday advent calendar for a birthday countdown idea

Recycle your advent calendar from Christmas or make your own 12 days of birthday DIY Advent calendar. Turn this holiday-themed decor into a cute and creative birthday countdown calendar. Fill small boxes or bags with a little gift like sweet treats and surprises in anticipation of the arrival of your child’s birthday. You can use these free Advent countdown stickers and make your own DIY countdown calendar for a birthday.

Electronic Countdown Clock

birthday countdown clock for a birthday countdown idea

Start a fun countdown clock. This can be done with a birthday countdown internet clock or you can get an interchangeable countdown clock timer that has a face you can change for all your important calendar dates including vacation, retirement, Christmas, and birthday! Your birthday kiddo will love watching the numbers change.

Birthday Countdown Chain

paper chain for a birthday countdown idea

If you were a child of the 80s, you know paper chains. Grab construction paper and cut strips of paper to make your own DIY Countdown Paper Chain. This is a great visual for younger kids and they will love tearing apart the newest chain paper each morning when they wake up each day of their birthday week. On the slips of paper, you can even use markers to write sweet birthday wishes or birthday tokens/coupons for future activities. If making your own chain is not your thing, grab a low-cost birthday countdown chain on Amazon. Just add numbers to each ring so you can watch the days go by and the numbers get smaller.

Birthday Countdown Punch Out Calendar

punch out calendar supplies for a birthday countdown idea

This idea is super fun and is a play on a punchout advent calendar (as seen in our Christmas Care Packages.) These fun punchout calendars are sold during the Christmas season but you can easily make your own. Glue plastic SOLO cups to a board – anywhere from 10 to 20 cups is the perfect amount. Fill your plastic cups with small trinkets, candy, and/or toys. Cover the opening of your cups with tissue paper. Using rubber bands will easily cover your openings. Number your cups from 1 to whatever. In a gift punch, the person opening the gifts, “punches” the cup in to see what gift they are getting! This is a really fun option for someone who wants to make a birthday even more special.

Birthday Bucket List

Why have a birth day when you can have a birth month? Celebrate the entire week or the entire month of your child’s birthday with a birthday bucket list. Use the ideas we supply or fill in your own family bucket list ideas with activities that are fitting to your special birthday guest of honor.

Numbered Balloon Pop

birthday balloons countdown for a birthday countdown idea

Hang ten balloons on a string. This can look like balloon garland or you can fill the balloons with helium and have them reach the ceiling. Before you fill the balloons with air, roll a $1, $5, $10, or even $20 bill inside the balloons. You can even add confetti. Each day before the big day, pop a balloon and collected the money! It’s like an individual pinata filled with cash. Watch that wallet fill up with money!

Birthday Box

birthday box for a birthday countdown idea

A birthday box is super fun. This can come in the form of a shipped birthday care package or you can grab the largest, most oversized box you can find – can you imagine a refrigerator box? WOAH! Fill the entire box with your son/daughter/spouse/significant other’s presents. Number these gifts and allow your special someone to open a new present each day.

Easter Egg Games | Easter Party, Egg Hunt, Family Traditions & More

Does Easter ever free like a neglected holiday to you? As a Christian, Easter is truly the most important holiday. It feels as though there is little build-up to the actual day and very little more than a visit to the church and an Easter Egg Hunt.

What do you do on Easter?

Beyond the traditional Easter egg hunt and visit to the church, consider a new Easter Tradition with Easter games. If you wish to turn Easter into a greater celebration, take a look at these Easter Games for Adults, Kids, Families, Friends, Small Groups, and Large Gatherings. It fits a small family of three and a large crowd of dozens.

The year Easter was canceled (the year we must not name), we decide to twist up the traditional Easter ideas. Instead of attending a large Easter Egg Hunt at Church, we had our own small family Easter Egg hunt. My older kids hid Easter Eggs for the younger kids and after finding our eggs, everyone filled their stomachs with jelly beans and chocolate (gross – does that idea of that make anyone else sick?)

Well, it didn’t make my kids sick. Instead, it made all five kids excitable on a lot of sugar. We created a new Easter Family tradition by playing outdoor Easter games. It was a beautiful day and I was all about running off steam and enjoying the beautiful blue sky day.

What are some fun Easter games?

This list of Easter game ideas includes Traditional Easter Games. What are traditional Easter games? Some examples of traditional games include the law Easter Egg Roll. Read more about that below but basically try to roll a raw egg across a finish line with your nose or a spoon. You also could turn a ball toss into a carrot toss or play pin the tail on the bunny (similar to pin the tail on the donkey game.)

We also have examples of Unique Easter Games like Easter bowling lined with brightly colored pool noodles and adorable bunny bowling pins.
