What is Uber on Frugal Coupon Living

What is UBER?

What is UBER? UBER App is Powerful Way to Get Where You Need to Be…Cheaper

If you have visited a larger city, or needed to get somewhere without a car, chances are you have hailed (or tried) a cab. With hailing a cab comes frustrations and irritations. Late arrivals, missed signals and ridiculous and unknown pricing can all cause one to second guess getting a taxi in the city. UBER is a smartphone “taxi” app that came along back in 2009 and has slowly been changing the transportation landscape ever since. This idea is a very interesting take on the economic model we pattern our lives around….we buy and sell based on reputation and convenience.

With UBER, you send a signal through an app that you need a ride. That signal is then given to a driver that is nearby (through the wonders of smartphone and satellite technology) and all payment is done via credit card – no cash necessary. The driver picks you up and then takes you to the desired location. This business model, at it’s core, is pretty solid. You do not need to carry cash OR even tip!

There are some challenges that UBER has faced over the years, however. One such problem is the safety of the drivers and riders. Because the drivers are vetted to some degree, that is somewhat under control. Drivers MUST PASS background checks and have a constantly monitored driving record that meets certain standards. While not foolproof, it is a fairly solid program to keep riders safe. The flip side of that equation, however, is still somewhat a point of contention. Compared to a taxi, however, there is RECORD of your travel, location and diver leaving a safe history to your whereabouts and who you are with.

Prices are, of course, another important aspect of the program. They implement what is called surge pricing and the model is based on supply and demand. At high traffic times, the pricing goes up. When demand is lower, rides are much cheaper. Compare these prices, though, at all times to a cab. Living in the city (DC), we have found this service to be much cheaper than the alternative. For our family of four, UBER IS EVEN CHEAPER THAN THE METRO!

This is important when selecting a car. There are also many different levels of UBER rides. You can get luxury automobiles, SUV sized vehicles (UBER XL or UBERSUV) and various other types of Uber rides if you are willing to pay for them. The key is to fit the Uber experience to what you are comfortable with. When we have more than 5 people, we always select UBER XL

UBER has carved out one heck of a niche in a powerful market. The company is worth billions and they seem to be expanding all the time. Right now, they are in hundreds of cities across the globe and that number is only going to increase in the coming years. It is the ride of choice for our DC Family of four!

We love UBER…often more affordable than the Metro for larger parties and cheaper than a Taxi. DID YOU KNOW? Your first UBER Ride (up to $20) is FREE?! Go to www.frugalcouponliving.com and search UBER for your code. Grab it now, add it to your app and use later!

How to Become an UBER Driver

More people are looking for ways to make extra money. Working a 9-5 job is no longer cutting it for most families and holidays and unexpected events and really strain the budget. Becoming an UBER driver is something many people are doing to fill the gap. I wanted to share some tips for becoming an UBER Driver. Check out this UBER driver guide.

If you are trying to earn a FREE UBER RIDE as a passenger, go HERE.

Benefits of Driving with UBER

You may be wondering what kind of benefits there are to driving with UBER. The hours really vary depending on when you want to drive. I think one of the best benefits of a driving job with UBER is that you get to pick the hours. You get to take time off when you need it and choose to work when you want. The other benefit is you get to make money doing something that is fairly simple. Plus, most people say that UBER is super easy to sign up with and continue to work with.

Requirements to Sign Up

Now that you know a little more about UBER, you may be curious as to how you sign up. There are requirements to sign up with UBER, otherwise it would be a free for all. The requirements are meant to keep you and your passengers safe. Before you can sign up to be an UBER driver, you must meet these requirements.

– You have to be 21 years or older.
– You need to have at least 3 years of driving experience.
– You have to verify your license.
– You also need in-state car insurance.
– You must have an in-state driver’s license.
– You need a social security number for a background check.
– You need a clean driving record and must pass the background check.
– Your background check must be clear of no DUIs, no accidents of driving without insurance, no fatal car accidents, no reckless driving, no history of criminal offenses.
– Your vehicle must also pass certain requirements. (4 door sedan, must seat at least 4 passengers, must be 2001 or newer, no vehicles that are salvaged, no marked taxi vehicles, the car must also be registered).

Now let’s talk about How to become an Uber driver.

How to Sign Up

Step One: Complete an online application.

Step Two: It’s important that you get your car inspected by an UBER approved agency.

Step Three: Wait for the approval of your background check.

Step Four: Start driving with UBER.

Conclusion

Give it a try. It doesn’t require much. Vehicle registration, a driver’s licensee check, car safety inspection – and most of these you already have completed by just being on the road.

Some of the highest paid times for drivers are weekend nights (so go out after the kids go to bed) or rush hour (it’s easy to pick up someone on the way home!) Also consider hitting the road during special events – a sports game or concert. Drivers are in demand during these times.

This is a breakdown of how to become a driver with UBER. I would love to hear your experiences. Was it easy to sign up? Feel free to talk about your experience in the comment section.

How it Works:

1.) Download the app.  Use my Uber promo code, ashleyl4951ue, and get $20 off your first UBER ride.

2.) Request your ride.

3.) Track your driver and their arrival time on your GoogleMaps-like map.

4.) You have your driver’s name and car color and make so you can make sure you get in the right car. They often an UBER sticker on the side of the window. They also have your picture so they will know what you look like.

5.) Place your end location in the app and your driver will get you there. No need to pay (as your credit card info is in the app) or offer a tip.
