10 Things Not To Miss At LEGOLAND, Florida

10 Things Not To Miss At LEGOLAND

If you are planning to spend the day at this central Florida hotspot there are a few things you will want to check out. Must see things at the park or info to know to maximize your fun.

1. Minifig Trading – One of the coolest things that LEGOLAND offers is Minifig trading. Bring your own creations from home to trade with (Model Citizens )park employees. As long as your figure has a head, torso, and legs you can trade for any one that the employee is wearing, simply walk up and ask to trade. They are fastened onto their name tags that are surrounded in a colorful Lego baseplate. Change your mind about one you traded for? Trade again!

2. Battle for Brickbeard’s Bounty Ski Show – This show was fantastic for kids and adults. Little fans are brought right into the show, and the first 5 rows are a splash zone so beware! Thrilling ski stunts that end with skiers becoming actors-sliding right up on the stage to take part in the show.

3. The Big Shop – There are a lot of really different stores at the park that are specialty shops for specific things like the girls line of LEGO products- LEGO Friends, one for MiniFigs, and one where you can buy LEGOs by the pound. But The Big Shop is the main store here where you can find LEGO apparel, sets, coffee mugs, key chains, room décor, etc.

4. Miniland USA – It would be easy to spend several hours checking out all there is to see in this mini outdoor LEGO museum! A highly detailed miniature of New York City, complete with an amazing replica of the Statue of Liberty, our own Daytona 500, Kennedy Space Center, and Key West are included as is the Vegas Strip and entire homage to Star Wars. Get your camera ready because there is something for everyone to see in this section of the park.

5. 3-D Movie – There are 3 movies to choose from – Clutch Powers 4D, Chima, and Spellbreaker 4D. We went for Clutch Powers in 4D, 12 minutes long, the 3D effects were really spectacular and what put it over the top and made it 4D were things like cold blasts of air, falling “snow”, and surround sound. We all enjoyed this show. They are entertianing for kids and very informative and exciting for adults (I mean older kids!)

6. Cypress Gardens – They have maintained much of the original Cypress Garden park that was originally on site from 1936 to 2009. The beautiful old Cypress trees and botanical gardens are a great place to take a stroll and relax. Benches are placed throughout and just before you get to the entrance is a beautiful waterfall.

7. Kid Rides – Unlike most other amusement parks, ALL the rides inside LEGOLAND are geared only towards kids. Nothing too scary or overwhelming. There are rides suitable for 2 to 12 year olds, but still fun for mom. I felt good about that because I had no children upset over not being able to ride.

8. Ice Cream – At the hottest part of the day we headed up to Sunny’s Ice Cream Shop in Fun Town where they serve Breyer’s A very generous single scoop in a large waffle cone with one topping cost about $4.00 and was well worth it.

9. LEGO Statues – Small and Larger are everywhere you look in the park. Nestled beneath waterfalls, welcoming you into the park, inside the rides. Anywhere you look are amazing LEGO creations that took countless hours and LEGO bricks. We made it a game to spot all the unique things built from LEGO bricks-  Window boxes with Lego LEGO above the stores, Chima characters throughout the ride, dinosaurs, pirates guarding a treasure chest, and much more.

10. Homeschooling Family and Teacher Discount – One thing you may not know about is the discounts they offer – If you are a homeschooling family LEGOLAND has an amazing discount for you and your child. $8.00 for each home schooled child and $25.00 for each chaperoning adult. You must place reservations and pay in advance. While certified teachers are eligible for a free annual pass to LEGOLAND. I haven’t seen any other big parks in the area who offer such great discounts.

Also checkout the water park, perfect for those hot summer days. Be sure to grab your FREE subscription of LEGO Magazine!
