A Review of Disney’s Dumbo (2019)

March 27, 2019 by Ashley at Frugal Coupon Living Filed Under: Review

published date: March 27, 2019
modified datt: March 27,2019

Do you know what Friday, March 29th is? The release of the new the new re-imagined “Dumbo”. Walt Disney’s original, classic animated tale “Dumbo”, opened Oct. 23, 1941 and won an Oscar® for best scoring of a musical picture and was nominated for best original song for “Baby Mine.”

The new movie includes a star cast of Colin Farrell, Michael Keaton, Danny DeVito, Eva Green, Alan Arkin, Finley Hobbins, and Nico Parker. Additionally, the world famous director is Tim Burton.

From Disney and visionary director Tim Burton, the all-new grand live-action adventure “Dumbo” expands on the beloved classic story where differences are celebrated, family is cherished and dreams take flight. Circus owner Max Medici (Danny DeVito) enlists former star Holt Farrier (Colin Farrell) and his children Milly (Nico Parker) and Joe (Finley Hobbins) to care for a newborn elephant whose oversized ears make him a laughingstock in an already struggling circus. But when they discover that Dumbo can fly, the circus makes an incredible comeback, attracting persuasive entrepreneur V.A. Vandevere (Michael Keaton), who recruits the peculiar pachyderm for his newest, larger-than-life entertainment venture, Dreamland. Dumbo soars to new heights alongside a charming and spectacular aerial artist, Colette Marchant (Eva Green), until Holt learns that beneath its shiny veneer, Dreamland is full of dark secrets.

Directed by Tim Burton (“Alice in Wonderland,” “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”) from a screenplay by Ehren Kruger (“Ophelia,” “Dream House”), and produced by Justin Springer (“TRON: Legacy”), Kruger, Katterli Frauenfelder (“Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children,” “Big Eyes”) and Derek Frey (“Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children,” “Frankenweenie”), “Dumbo” flies into theaters on March 29, 2019.

The family and I got a sneak peak into this amazing adventure. It holds your classic characters, namely the main character Dumbo, but the movie is re-imagined. A new story line with new characters. The focus is on the circus and leads to how greed and fame hurt others.   I have a very sensitive 9 year old and there were three times she cried in the movie and a few times she covered her eyes. With every Disney story line, the hero “wins” but there are struggles to get there and sometimes the struggles at the cost of an animals can be hard to see.

The cast was great, they did such a beautiful job and the imagery was breath taking – it is so amazing what can be done with a movie and computer now a days. The eyes on this sweet little elephant were amazing. He reminded me so much of my 15 month old, not for his ears, but for his captivating eyes (and his love of his mama!)

Be sure to fall back in love with Dumbo this spring.

Get inspired to spark joy with these KonMari Method Dollar Tree Organizing tips. Frugal and affordable ways to master the Japanese art of tidying up!

KonMari Method Dollar Tree Organizing

Why use the KonMari Method?

Okay, I have to confess. An hour-long episode Hoarders makes me way less anxious than just ten minutes of Tidying Up with Marie Kondo. It might be because Hoarders lets me be lazy and shocked while Tidying Up makes me think about all the organization I could be doing in my already sort-of-organized-but-not-quite house. Without diving too deep in the psychology of it all, both shows inspire me to get more clean and organized. I know I can’t be the only one searching for the best ways to keep my home functional and efficient, and I DEFINITELY know I’m not the only one on a budget. Check out the great Dollar Tree DIY organization tools below for the best ways to keep things neat and tidy, while also staying affordable.

Child Screen Time Tickets Printables for Kids Incentives

This post may contain affiliate links or ads. Read my privacy policy and disclosure policy here.

February 23, 2023 by Ashley at Frugal Coupon Living Filed Under: Facebook, Instagram, Kids, Pinterest, Printable, Social Media

published date: March 23, 2019
modified datt: February 23,2023

Trade in these child screen time tickets for entertainment on video games, the computer, tablets, smartphones or even watching television. These screen time coupon printables are great kid incentives, moving responsibility from the parent to the child to earn rewards and prizes!

I recently saw a meme about a mom announcing “screen time is over.” The image of this meme was depicting a grown man in a toddler fit. It gave me a good chuckle. Can you relate?

No matter the age of your child, I am sure we can all relate to temper tantrums once screen time has been declared over. In many cases, the temper tantrum is my own as screen time allows me (as a parent and at-home working mother) to get things accomplished… you can relate to this too, right?

If screen time or the end of screen time in your home is a real juggling act, we have technology tickets that might create incentives, rewards, and structure in your home.

What is the definition of Screen Time?

The screen time definition is pretty straightforward. Let’s try to definite it without using the words. Screen time is the number of minutes that one spends on an electronic device which can include a computer, television, iPhone, tablet, gaming system, or Kindle.

Is Screen Time Bad for Kids?

Yes and no. Just like chocolate and sweets, everything that is for you can either be good or bad. It must be used in moderation.

There are a few reasons individuals might express why too much screen time is bad.

Why screen time is bad…

  • It can affect vision

  • There is a rumor it makes tics worse

  • It can cause aggression

  • It can create ADHD

  • It creates an inability to focus

While I have listed a few reasons people do not prefer screen time, I am not going to go over the reasons screen time is bad. In fact, you can quickly do a web search and get plenty of reasons your child should not have screen time. That is up to you.

As a former teacher and mother of five, I am here to show you why screen time is actually good for kids.

Benefits of screen time include…

  • Learning to focus

  • An ability to sit still

  • Education Learning

  • Rewards

So clearly there are good and bad reasons for screen time, now let’s talk about how to do it in moderation.

Screen Time Rules

Knowing the rules of screen time can save you from the temper tantrum we mentioned above.

If screen time is a reward and certain limits are expected, it’s important to go over rules and expectations with kids. If your kids know their expectations then they know what is to come.

Family Rules for Screen Time might include…

  • Staying in safe online environments
  • Not talking with other people online
  • Not going to cat rooms
  • Setting a timer for screen time
  • Completing responsibilities first

Scholastic actually has a good resource of screen time rules when creating some that work for your family.

Two things that I have found helpful in my own struggle with screen time, are giving the children control and also letting the child know how much time they will have beforehand. When I share the amount of time they can play, my kids are not caught off guard when time is officially up because they began “playing” knowing they only had x number of minutes. While this has not solved all my parenting problems, holding true to time has been really helpful.

Let your kids take charge. For example, when our kids get screen time, they set up an alarm on the kid’s Alexa to go alert them when their time is up. This allows me to not keep track of time and also gives them their own responsibility to monitor their time and get off when their time is up. Before beginning their game, they say “Alexa, tell me when 30 minutes is over” …and that is what she does! Tip: You can also work on Alexa giving them a 25-minute reminder, in addition, so they know they need to wind down where they are in the game.

If you like a few of these screen time benefits, you might appreciate having printable tickets to earn screen time rewards.

Printable Screen Time Tickets

Now that we agree screen time is a thing, let’s talk about how to control the rewards with child screen time ticket printables.

Once you download your printable tickets PDF, decide how to earn screen time tickets

Ways to Earn Screen Time Tickets

Come up with fun ways for children to earn screen time rewards. You can come up with this on your own or you can allow your child to brainstorm with you.

These incentives can include…

  • After completion of chores

  • As a reward for good behavior

  • After reading a book

  • After going outdoors

What are some ideas you and your child have?

What electronics are screen time tickets good for?

These incentive tickets can be used for any gaming system or electronics including but not limited to…

  • Smart Phone
  • XBox
  • Kindle
  • IPad
  • Nintendo
  • Wii
  • Tablet
  • TV

Are you ready to get your printable screen time coupons? These reward coupons are perfect for all ages and they are quite colorful and cute making them even more exciting.

In this pack of Screen Time Tickets, we included screen time limits.

This set includes minute screen time tickets for

  • five minutes
  • ten minutes
  • fifteen minutes
  • thirty minutes
  • sixty minutes.

We also included a golden ticket for you to use as you see fit. Perhaps a weekend day of unlimited screen time for good behavior. You can combine tickets if your child needs one of the numbers not included in this set.

Stuck With You Teacher Gift Tag Pritnable Set

Stuck with You Teacher Appreciation Printable

While in the store the other day, we came across the cutest ruler design masking tape from Scotch Expressions. Though I had no reason for celebration, I had to pick it up for my girls’  teachers. I also wanted to pair a gift tag with some pun – I am glad I am stuck with you!  As you know from my previous posts, I am a former teacher and always looking to show my kid’s teachers affirmations and thanks.

Always find a reason – Thankful Thursday

We made this as a Thankful Thursday gift. Just a creative way to show a teacher how much she is appreciation for no reason. It would also be cute as a Punny Teacher Gift Idea.

If you don’t have this masking tape, think of another item to pair with the gift tag. Glue, clear tape, candy, whatever is sticky and fun!

Stuck with You Supplies:

Your supplies are really optional, but these are the things we used for this Teacher Appreciation Gift.

  • Turquoise tulle
  • Turquoise curling ribbon
  • Scotch Expressions ruler design masking tape
  • Stuck on you printable

You will also need a resource to print this. We suggest sending the order to Staples and printing on card stock. More on that below.

Stuck with You Directions:

Some of these directions are based up my own resources. Your directions will vary based on the supplies you use to make your teacher gift.

Take your Stuck with You printable. Cut out the gift tag and punch or cut a hole in the top of the tag.

Cut about four inches of curling ribbon.

Next, string your ribbon through the Scotch brand tape and the gift tag. Tie a knot and curl with scissors.

Cut off some tulle. We used about three inches. Tie around the curling ribbon and make a cute accent to your bow.

Finally, have your child sign their name and gift to a teacher.

Enjoy.

Easy Buttery Popcorn Cupcakes – Creamy, sweet and topped with popcorn shaped marshmallows, this dessert is the perfect addition to a movie party, circus themed party, backyard movie night or family game night.

Popcorn Cupcakes

You know what has been my most favorite things about the kids growing up. They now can get in the kitchen and bake… and guess what?! They love it! I do too. Last week my daughter made lime sugar cookies with a lime butter cream frosting. This was using ingredients we had in the house too! So lately, I have been pinning more than just dinner recipes. I have been pinning baking recipes I want them to bake instead of me.

I wanted them to make these Popcorn Cupcakes for our Family Game Night.  I also thought they would go perfect with a Backyard Movie Night, as well. But honestly, the possibilities are endless. Bake for an Oscar Night Movie Party, Circus Themed Party, or even a Girls Sleepover!

Enjoy!

See these cupcakes in our Backyard Movie Ideas for the Outdoors and our Family Game Night Snack Ideas.
