Summer is here, so are the bugs! You want your kids to be protected from bites but, don’t want those harsh chemicals on them. A natural alternative is here and so much better for your skin! This Homemade Backyard Spray includes the soft feel and beautiful scent of Essential Oils. We used Lavender, but you can use other scents too including Citronella, a known bug repellent! Summer tip: On super hot days, Put it in the refrigerator for a bit then, spray on to help you cool off!

Ingredients:

  • Witch Hazel
  • Vegetable Glycerin
  • Distilled Water
  • Lavender Essential Oil (or other essential oil known to repel bugs*)
  • Optional: Citronella

Other Supplies Needed:

  • Measuring cup
  • Measuring spoons
  • Spray bottle (we love glass if you are using this long term!)

Directions:

  1. Measure about 2 cups of witch hazel into the measuring cup.
  2. Pour the witch hazel into your spray bottle then fill the rest of the bottle with distilled water.
  3. Remember to leave enough room to add the rest of the ingredients.
  4. Add 1 tablespoon of vegetable glycerin to the spray bottle.
  5. Add 10-20 drops of lavender Essential Oil  to the spray bottle.
  6. Shake the spray bottle until all the ingredients are well mixed.
  7. Spray on your skin or in areas of your home you want to repell bugs. Repeat as needed.
