With a touch of cinnamon, a bit of ginger and the best part of all Butterscotch Budding, enjoy this fun gingerbread recipe for you and the kids. Spread the yumminess of home-made vanilla icing and you have a treat sure to please.

Cookie Ingredients:

  • 1 package Butterscotch Pudding (cook and serve)
  • 1/2 cup Butter
  • 1/2 cup packed Brown Sugar
  • 1 Egg
  • 1 1/2 cup Flour
  • 1/2 tsp Baking Soda
  • 1 1/2 tsp Ginger
  • 1 tsp Cinnamon

Icing Ingredients:

  • 1 Egg Whites
  • 1/4 tsp Vanilla
  • 1 cup Powdered Sugar

Directions:

  1. Combine flour, baking soda, ginger and cinnamon and set aside.
  2. Cream butterscotch pudding mix, butter and brown sugar.
  3. Add egg and mix.
  4. Add in flour mixture and mix until just combined.
  5. Cover and chill dough for about an hour until firm.
  6. Divide mixture in half, place one half Wrapped back in refrigerator.
  7. Prepare baking sheets with cooking spray or parchment paper.
  8. Flour work area and rolling pin and roll out dough to 1/8″ thickness.
  9. Cut out with cookie cutter and remove scraps.
  10. Transfer cookies to baking sheets using spatula. Leave several inches between cookies.
  11. Reroll scrap dough and cut remaining cookies.
  12. Bake in 350 degree oven about 10 minutes (watch for edges to begin to turn lightly brown).
  13. Leave on cookie sheet for several minutes before moving to cooling rack.
  14. Combine the egg whites and vanilla and beat until bubbly.
  15. Add powdered sugar gradually and mix until all sugar is incorporated.
  16. Beat on high until mixture forms stiff, glossy peaks.
  17. Transfer icing to pastry bag.
  18. Pipe the line pattern on cookies.
  19. Wait at least several hours for icing to set.

Wilton has a great selection of Gingerbread Cookie Cutters. Grab Single Cutter with Comfort Grip for $5.47 or a Family of Four Set for $6.64. I find the Fred ABC (already been eaten) Gingerbread Cookie Cutter Set of 3 comical for only $10.25 – adorable!

Rachael-Ray-Show

I know you all have loved the Food Crafts we have been creating on Frugal Coupon Living. If you missed The Rachael Ray Show which aired last year, take a look at the segment where my little turkey and I share how to re-use Halloween Candy to make Fun Thanksgiving Desserts.

Grab the Following Recipes:

Turkey Sugar Cookies (Pin it to Pinterest)

This recipe is the most simplistic. Make the attached sugar cookie recipe or grab a pre-made store brand. Use icing as glue and create decadent feathers with candy corn.

Turkey Nutter Butter Cookies (Pin it to Pinterest)

So far the most popular Thanksgiving Food Craft, the flexibility of this food craft is nice. How far you want to go with this cookie is up to you. You can have a stand up turkey or a lay down turkey instead.  Add left over Halloween candy to spruce up the design or keep it simplistic with icing and candy corn.

Rolo Pilgram Hats (Pin it to Pinterest)

On the show we made these with chocolate peanut butter cups but you can also do with caramel cups. Pick up store bought frosted fudge cookies and glue on the top of the hat to make the perfect little treat for your little Pilgrim.

Chocolate Covered Oreo Turkeys (Pin it to Pinterest)

This turkey craft is likely for experienced and steady of hands baker. Mix colors and create bright feathers on your Oreo Turkey using a pretzel as a template. Again, how little or how much of the activity and design you want to do is up to you.

Attention Ghostbusters… This Halloween Season, wouldn’t you love to trap your very own ghost in a bottle? With this simple and inexpensive DIY (Do It Yourself) project, you can!

If you have a recycling bin nearby, you have all of the makings for this fun and frugal DIY Ghost in a Bottle. Kids will love creating their very own ghost and trapping him in a bottle where they can make him do twists and turns all over the place. Take a look below at how to make your very own Ghost in Bottle, the perfect craft for the upcoming Halloween season!

DIY Halloween Ghost in a Bottle

Supplies Needed:

  • 1 clear 2 liter soda bottle
  • Orange food coloring (or yellow and red to mix)
  • 1 plastic shopping bag
  • 1 rubber band
  • Scissors
  • Marker

DIY-Halloween-Bottle-Ghost-Steps-frugal-coupon-living

Directions:

1. First, you want to remove all of the label from your 2 liter soda bottle. Rinse it well.
2. Fill the bottle with water and add a few drops of orange food coloring. Or, you can add a drop or two of yellow and red to mix your own. Place the lid back on and shake so your color mixes well.
3. Turn your shopping bag over and cut off the end, about 3 inches worth. The “end” of the bag is the very bottom where your items would rest in the bag. When you cut off the end, you are basically creating a smaller bag.
4. Hold the new mini bag under the faucet and put a few drops of water in it. This will create the head. You don’t want to add so much that your head won’t fit in the bottle, so only add a small amount. The water will also act as a weight, allowing the ghost to fly around the bottle. So take your time and make sure you do this step just right.
5. Twist the bag to create the head and place a rubber band on the neck to secure it.
6. You can now use your marker and create a face! A few dots is all you need.
7. Using your scissors shred the bottom of the ghost to make it look nice and spooky.
8. Press the ghost head first into the bottle. Replace the lid and give it a good shake.

That’s it! Your ghost will whirl and twirl all over the bottle in a spooky fashion your kids will love. The more they shake it, the more it will fly. Give this Ghost in a Bottle craft a try and see how fun and easy it can be trap a ghost while using items you already have around your home.
