Have you heard of a cardboard tube marble run? Using the same concept of a marble run with toilet paper rolls, we created a DIY Pom Pom run for Elf on a Shelf and your toddler.
DIY Toilet Paper Roll Marble Run
Start savings those cardboard tubes. Toilet paper rolls and paper towel tubes are excellent for this easy Elf on the Shelf idea for toddlers. Instead of using the common marble for this hands-on activity, we used Christmas pom-poms to say in the Christmas theme!
Cardboard Tube Run Supplies
- The Elf on the Shell Doll
- Cardboard Tubes
- Washi tape or masking tape
- Pom-poms
- Basket or bowl
How do you make a marble run out of toilet paper?
You can make a run out of toilet paper using a few craft supplies. Gather your marble or pom poms, some tape and cardboard tubes.
First find a vertical wall that has space.
Start as high as you want with the first toilet paper tube and tape to the wall.
Add the next tube so it is mostly connected.
Tape another tube and begin to form a path from the top of the wall down to the bottom.
At the bottom of the last tube, have a basket or bowl to collet your pom-poms or marbles.
Toilet Paper Roll Run Tip: It is best to use pom-poms when creating this Elf on the Shelf idea for toddlers. If you have small pets like cats or dogs, be careful as they can eat the pom-poms and that would cause an emergency vet visit. It is also important to monitor children who still put small items in their mouth. This would not be a safe Elf idea for them.

What is Elf on the Shelf?
Elf on the Shelf is a Christmas Tradition. The tradition has a book and a elf doll. The book is poetic and in rhyme sharing the purpose of the Elf’s visits. The Elf visits each Thanksgiving. He/She goes and returns from the North Pole each evening. Every morning he can be found in a new location in the house. The Elf has been found in the refrigerator, fishing in the toilet, writing messages on the mirror or hanging from the lights. It is VERY IMPORTANT, the Elf is not touch each evening or his Christmas magic will be lost! Each family is able to name their special elf. The elves return to their home (Santa’s North Pole Work shop) every Christmas Eve. An Elf’s Story can also be found on DVD
