Use These Items with Borax for Crafting with the Kids

Borax is something you can use for cleaners and other things around the house, but did you know you can use it for crafts, too? We found some items you can use with Borax to make cute crafts with your kids! We also have a big list of Borax Uses for Kids for you, too!

Do your kids love to make slime? You don’t need a kit for it! Grab this big bottle of Elmer’s glue to make slime! Mix water and Borax together, and combine that with your glue and food coloring – easy slime!

You need mixing bowls to mix up your slime. If you don’t want your kids using yours, get them they’re own inexpensive bowls to use, like this Coleman 6 in. Enamelware Mixing Bowl.

You can make SUPER cool crafts that look like crystal when you mix Borax and pipe cleaners. Just add your Borax to boiling water, and put in your pipe cleaners to make them crystalize. There are so many things you can make like hearts, snowflakes and icicles. This big pack of 1,000 pipe cleaners will last you a while!

To make your crystal crafts, you need something to hold onto your pipe cleaner shapes. Attach your shapes to popsicle sticks with string or yarn so you can easily pull them out when you’re done!

You also need mason jars to make your crystal crafts. You’ll leave your pipe cleaners in the Borax mixture you pour into the jars to set. You can also use these jars to make crystalized jars. Just add Borax and food coloring to boiling water, put your jars that you’ve sanded in the water, and wait until they crystalize! They are SO gorgeous when they’re done!

Do your kids love Floam or Playfoam? Make your own easily! Mix your Borax into very warm water, and mix glue with food coloring. Put these little styrofoam balls into a big Ziploc bag, and then add your Borax mix and your glue. Mix it all together until your Floam is ready!

Cute Needlepoint Kits to Keep You Busy

Have you been getting bored and stir crazy at home? If you’ve been looking for something to do or something new to try, we found some cute needlepoint kits to keep you busy!

This Unicorn Needlepoint Kit is too cute and would be perfect for a child’s room. My girls would love to do this one!

How cute is this Fox Needlepoint Kit?? My daughter has some friends who LOVE foxes, and this would make such a fun gift idea. Either gift them the kit to do themselves or have your kiddo make it and frame it!

This Cactus Needlepoint Kit is so cute! It’s perfect for anyone with a southwest theme in their homes or who love succulents.

Do you love the Starry Night painting? It’s one of my favorites, and this Starry Night Needlepoint Kit is a great way to recreate it and add it into your home. There are two kits, each with half of the design. You can buy one of them or save if you want them both and buy the bundle.

This Flamingo and Leaf Digital Download screams summer at me. It’s so colorful and fun. You won’t get a full kit with this. You’ll get a downloadable file with a beginner’s guide, 12 basic stitches, a pattern showing stitches and colors used, and a pattern for 6” hoop.

My daughter just loves peace signs, so I think I will do this Peace Sign Needlepoint Kit for her room. She will LOVE it, and it’s the perfect addition for her wall decor. And, it will be even more special that I made it for her.

How to make Elf on the Shelf Bendable. A no sew Tutorial for your North Pole Visitor.

How to Make a Bendable Elf on the Shelf

Have you paid close attention to the Elf on the Shelf Ideas found on Frugal Coupon Living. Hundreds of ideas and so many more to come!

Find plenty of Elf on the Shelf Photo Ideas in our Master Elf List with more photos coming regularly. Also take a look at our Elf on the Shelf Printables.

How to Make Elf on the Shelf Bendable

Looking to get creative with your Elf on the Shelf ideas. Do you want your special Scout Elf boy or girl doll to bend, hang, hug, groove, jig or more.

By inserting craft wire into his limbs in this DIY (Do It Yourself) Step by Step Tutorial, you will have a bendable elf in 5 minutes flat!

I used 16 to 20 gauge for my various Elf Dolls. This 16 gauge wire one is most like the one I used in this post. This 18 gauge craft wire comes with cutters!

How to make My Elf on the Shelf Bendable

Step by Step Elf Bendable Tutorial

1.) First, the thicker the better but you want to make sure you can easily cut it and slip it through the seam of the elf.

2.) Lift up the arm pit and slide about three inches of wire into the the seam of elf’s arm pit. Adjust as needed. I folded my wire to thicken it.

3.) Trim excess wire. Repeat under the second arm pit.

4.) Most Elf on the Shelf dolls  have a seam at the knee so you will need to have a lower and upper wire (calf and quad) in each leg.

5.) Go behind the Elf’s bottom, slide in a new wire in the seem. This one will only be around an inch and a half as you are only going the length of the quad. Repeat behind the second leg.

6.) Slide a new wire into the toe seam to the knee. This is about an inch in length.

7.) Trim all excess wire.

It is really that easy to make a bendable elf!

No Sew Elf Bendable Tutorial

Bendable Elf on the Shelf Kit

I lost my first Elf on the Shelf (long story, found here in our Unboxing Elf on the Shelf). With our second Elf, I did this with a paper clip. I used our Kitchen Knife Block Scissors to cut the wire.

On Amazon, you can also get a Bendable Elf on the Shelf Kit. We have purchased this too. It was fine. It was actually very cute and creative. It comes with a needle and thread and velcro, but let’s be real. I just don’t sew. If I had any sort of sewing talent (and time) I would take 10 minutes to use this kit.

Elf on the Shelf 101

What is Elf on the Shelf?

Elf on the Shelf is a Christmas Tradition. The tradition has a book and a little red doll. The book is poetic and in rhyme sharing the purpose of the Elf‘s visits. The Elf visits each Thanksgiving. He/She goes and returns from the North Pole each evening. Every morning he can be found in a new location in the house. The doll has been found in the refrigerator, fishing in the toilet, writing messages on the mirror or hanging from the lights. It is VERY IMPORTANT, the Elf is not touch each evening or his Christmas magic will be lost! Each family is able to name their special elf. The elves return to their home (Santa’s North Pole Work shop) every Christmas Eve. An Elf’s Story can also be found on DVD

Pumpkin Carving Tip!

Take a look at this Pumpkin Carving Tip. Did you know you can extend the life of your pumpkin with a few simple steps?

Jack-o’Lantern Preservation Steps:

  1. Hallow out your pumpkin making sure to remove as much of the stringy fibers and sizes on the inside as possible. A spoon helps well with this.
  2. Rinse your pumpkin out with water
  3. Carve your pumpkin
  4. In a 5 gallon bucket, mix 1 gallon part water to 3 teaspoons bleach. I recommend 3 gal to 1 tsp.’
  5. Dip your jack-o’-lantern in the solution for a full 2 to 3 minutes – your pumpkin will float, so be sure to dip it additionally with your hands to get it covered in solution.
  6. Dry off your pumpkin as much as possible to prevent rot.

This is great if you want to carve a pumpkin early.
