Santa Hat Cupcakes Recipe with an Ice Cream Cone

Ho Ho Ho – Thanksgiving is just around the corner and so is Elf on the Shelf and Santa. Looking for a fun Christmas Food Craft with the kids? How about fun Santa Hat Cupcakes?

Ingredients:

1 box Cake Mix
3 Eggs
1 cup Water
1/3 cup Vegetable Oil
24 Sugar Cones
1 cup butter, softened
1 tsp vanilla extract
4 cups confectioners sugar
2 tbsp milk
1 cup Red Candy Melts
Red Sparkling Sugar

Directions:

Make cupcakes according to directions.
Let cool.
In a large bowl, cream the butter and add vanilla.
Mix in the sugar one cup at a time.
Beat in the milk mixing until fluffy.
Tranfer icing to the corner of large size zipper bag, try to minimaize trapped air and close. Clip a small piece off the corner to pipe.
Heat Red Candy Chips by microwaving for 30 seconds stirring and repeating until melted.
Coat each cone by rolling in melted candy.
Place on rack and sprinkle with sparkling sugar.
Allow to set.
Ice the top of the cupcake.
Place a candy cone on top of each.
Pipe icing in a ring around the top of each cupcake.
Pipe a ball at the end of the cone.

How to make Elf on the Shelf Bendable. A no sew Tutorial for your North Pole Visitor.

How to Make Elf on the Shelf Bendable

Looking to get creative with your Elf on the Shelf ideas. Do you want your special Scout Elf boy or girl doll to bend, hang, hug, groove, jig or more.

By inserting craft wire into his limbs in this DIY (Do It Yourself) Step by Step Tutorial, you will have a bendable elf in 5 minutes flat!

I used 16 to 20 gauge for my various Elf Dolls. This 16 gauge wire one is most like the one I used in this post. This 18 gauge craft wire comes with cutters!

Step by Step Elf Bendable Tutorial

1.) First, the thicker the better but you want to make sure you can easily cut it and slip it through the seam of the elf.

2.) Lift up the arm pit and slide about three inches of wire into the the seam of elf’s arm pit. Adjust as needed. I folded my wire to thicken it.

3.) Trim excess wire. Repeat under the second arm pit.

4.) Most Elf on the Shelf dolls have a seam at the knee so you will need to have a lower and upper wire (calf and quad) in each leg.

5.) Go behind the Elf’s bottom, slide in a new wire in the seem. This one will only be around an inch and a half as you are only going the length of the quad. Repeat behind the second leg.

6.) Slide a new wire into the toe seam to the knee. This is about an inch in length.

7.) Trim all excess wire.

It is really that easy to make a bendable elf!

Bendable Elf on the Shelf Kit

I lost my first Elf on the Shelf (long story, found here in our Unboxing Elf on the Shelf). With our second Elf, I did this with a paper clip. I used our Kitchen Knife Block Scissors to cut the wire.

On Amazon, you can also get a Bendable Elf on the Shelf Kit. We have purchased this too. It was fine. It was actually very cute and creative. It comes with a needle and thread and velcro, but let’s be real. I just don’t sew. If I had any sort of sewing talent (and time) I would take 10 minutes to use this kit.

What is Elf on the Shelf?

Elf on the Shelf is a Christmas Tradition. The tradition has a book and a little red doll. The book is poetic and in rhyme sharing the purpose of the Elf‘s visits. The Elf visits each Thanksgiving. He/She goes and returns from the North Pole each evening. Every morning he can be found in a new location in the house. The doll has been found in the refrigerator, fishing in the toilet, writing messages on the mirror or hanging from the lights. It is VERY IMPORTANT, the Elf is not touch each evening or his Christmas magic will be lost! Each family is able to name their special elf. The elves return to their home (Santa’s North Pole Work shop) every Christmas Eve. An Elf’s Story can also be found on DVD

Gobble Gobble – Another fun Turkey Recipe, perfect for the kids this Thanksgiving. Be sure to PIN this fun Turkey Sugar Cookies Recipe.

Turkey Sugar Cookies Recipe

Cookie Ingredients:

1 cup softened Butter
1 1/2 cup Sugar
1 Egg
2 tsp Vanilla
2 3/4 cup Flour
2 tsp Baking Soda

Glaze Ingredients:

1 cup Powdered Sugar
1 tbsp Milk
1 tbsp Corn Syrup
Food Coloring

Decorations:

Candy Corn

Directions:

Cream butter and sugar.
Add egg and vanilla and continue beating.
Mix dry ingredients together and incorporate into wet mixture a litlle at a time.
Place tablespoon sized balls on parchment covered baking sheet and then flatten to 1/4″ thick.
Bake in 400 oven 10 minutes or until lightly brown around edges.
Cool on a wire rack.
Mix powdered sugar corn syrup and milk to make glaze.
Use glaze to “glue” candy corn frathers in place.
Color glaze with red and yellow to make orange.
Draw in beak and feet.
Add blue to glaze to create dark gray and dot in eyes.

Chocolate Covered OREO Turkey Recipe

Chocolate Covered OREO Cookie Turkey Recipe:

Ingredients:

12 OREO Fudge Cremes
36 Chocolate Dipped Pretzels
24 Candy eyes
12 Candy Corns
1/4 cup Light Cocoa Candy Melting Chips
1/4 cup Assorted Fall Color Candy Melting Chips
OR 1/4 cup White Candy Melting Chips and assorted Gel Food Coloring

Directions:

Heat Light Cocoa Candy Chips in small bowl by microwaving for 30 seconds stirring and repeating until melted.
Arrange 3 pretzels on wax paper as shown to form feathers and spoon melted chocolate to “glue” together.
Place OREO Cookie on top of “feathers”.
Use a toothpick dipped in chocolate to paint chocolate on back of eyes and candy corn and put in place.
Allow to set.
Heat other color Candy Chips in small bowls by microwaving for 30 seconds stirring and repeating until melted.
Use a small spoon to pour colors in holes of pretzels.
Allow to set.

Rolo Pilgram Hat Cookie Recipe

Rolo Pilgrim Hat Cookie Recipe:

Ingredients (yields 12 hats)

12 Oreo Fudge Cremes
12 Rolos
2 Yellow Starburst
1/4 cup Orange Melting Chips

Directions

Unwrap Starburst and work between fingers to soften and flatten.
Cut to create 12 small rectangles to use as buckles for each hat.
Heat Orange Candy Chips in large bowl by microwaving for 30 seconds stirring and repeating until melted.
Arrange 12 cookies on flat surface.
Stick a toothpick in the top of each Rolo.
Dip Rolo about halfway down in orange chocolate. Allow excess to drip off.
Place Rolo in middle of cookie.
Take one of the “buckles” and place along orange “hatband”.
Allow to set.
Carefully remove toothpicks using a twisting motion.

Looking for a Fun DIY (Do It Yourself) activity for the kids this fall, just in time perhaps for Thanksgiving. Be sure to PIN this fun Turkey Nutter Butter Cookies Tutorial.

Ingredients:

6 Nutter Butters
6 Mini Nutter Butters
1/2 cup Dark Cocoa Candy Melting Chips
18 pieces of Candy Corn for feathers
3 pieces of Candy Corn with white and yellow removed
12 Candy Eyes

Directions:

Cut 3 trimmed pieces of Orange candy corn in half lengthwise to make 6 beaks.
Heat Dark Cocoa Candy Chips by microwaving for 30 seconds stirring and repeating until melted. Allow to cool for 2-3 minutes.
Dip Nutter Butter in melted candy.
Carefully remove from candy and let excess drip off.
Lay cookie on wax paper. Use spoon to smooth any finger spots.
Place Mini Nutter Butter on bottom half to make head.
Press 3 pieces of candy corn into top to make feathers.
Carefully place a little melted candy on back side and place 2 Candy eyes.
Carefully place a little melted candy on back side and place beak.
Immediately place in refrigerator for 10 minutes to set candy mix.
