What is Awana?
Have you ever wondered What is Awana? My older kids have been in Awana for three years, I have taught for two, and it wasn’t until recently I realized Awana was an acronym for “Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed” as taken from 2 Timothy 2:15.
2 Timothy 2:15 (NIV) reads “Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.“
Awana is international evangelical Christian nonprofit organization founded in 1950, headquartered in Streamwood, Illinois. The Awana website tells the story of the organization.
The organization is known not only for Bible verses and evangelism, they also are known for games, activities, and the popular Awana Grand Prix.
Awana Grand Prix Rules
Similar to the Pinewood Derby, the Awana Grand Prix has a set of rules. You can find the Awana Grand Prix Rules here, but keep in mind, rules may very from church to church, location to location.
These Grand Prix Rules tend to be common place.
1.) Cars raced in previous years are not eligible.
2.) Only one car per person may be entered in the race.
3.) Car weight shall not exceed 5 oz.
4.) The chassis should not be lower than 3/8 of an inch from the ground
5.) Race cars may be no longer than 7 inches, nor wider than 2.75 inches, nor taller than 3 inches in
overall height, a
6.) Inside wheel to wheel clearance should be at least 1.75 inches so that the car will run on the race track.
7.) If a car jumps the track during the race, begin the race over. If a car jumps the track three times, it is eliminated.

Why reinvent the wheel? If you are looking for Derby car templates, ask around. Either people have templates from years before or their kit came with multiple templates and they are willing to share one or two.
Many churches have open workshops where you can work on your Grand Prix car. If this is the case, visit those workshops, use tools and inquire about templates.
