Oh what a day! I found out my Maytag refrigerator was recalled Sunday and the repair was supposed to take place tomorrow. Here are the events of the day.
I met my husband at Sprint for a new cell phone (doing research to get a better plan.) The cell phone did not work so instead of taking the normal 45 minutes to get set up we spent around 15 minutes in the store. I HAD to come home (I had no plans to, I was going to be out for 2 more hours) but I did not have a moment to cut my coupons for my Publix run today. So, my daughter and I came home to get the coupons.
I walked in the house and panicked. Clearly SOMETHING was burning. My initial response was that it was the dishwasher (It has been on and I assumed plastic fell down around the metal)…it wasn’t. I check the fire place (gas) the laundry room, everywhere (but the refrigerator.) After calling 911 (my mother instinct told me something was REALLY bad) I carried the baby, doggies, and cat all outside to the front yard (with my LOVELY neighbors – thanks guys.) My husband, who was on the phone with me asked if I got my computer (haha) – I had not, but I did go back inside, okay so I shouldn’t have.
All in all, the department came, took care of identifying the problem – it was the refrigerator (not full flames yet! – PRAISE THE LORD) and the repair company is on the way. It was all electrical. Had a waited longer…well you know the rest.
What to take away 1) I am taking these recalls seriously – getting them done ASAP 2) I will NEVER be fearful to call 911 when my daughter and I could be in trouble 3) The Biggest and MOST IMPORTANT Lesson – GOD IS GOOD, ALL THE TIME. I was NOT supposed to come home for a couple of hours and he arranged the events of the day so that I did. Thank you, Lord.

Oh my goodness! What a day!! I’m so glad to hear that you and DD are okay. I was fussing all morning getting my coupons together, so I completely understand the frustration that can come when your day doesn’t all fall together as planned. Thank goodness God knew better and is in control! Praise HIM!!

God is awesome!! I’m glad no one was hurt and the house is okay too. Praise God! It really puts things in perspective when things like that happen. To me it is a reminder that he is control and to put our trust in him.

That is awesome, Ashley! And pardon me, but a tiny hilarious. It’s like God said, “How can I make sure to get Ashley home in time? The coupons!” I am so glad you, your family, and your home are all safe!

P.S. there’s a $10 off Kohls coupon online that is proven to be counterfeit.

You know GOD works in mysterious ways.
I still have tears in my eyes thinking and knowing what you went through. It must have been awful. Thank GOD everything but your refrigerator is “ok”. It does only take a second.

I have a really sad story about a fire in our small country town about 2 1/2 weeks ago that claimed the lives of 4 yes you read that correctly 4 young children. Ages were 2, 8, 10 and their cousin that was 10 as well. I couldn’t bear to think what would happen if I lost 1 of my children let alone 4 of them. Our community has really pulled together for this family. They lost EVERYTHING!!!
So, please let your readers know how important it is to make sure your fire detectors are working AND that your kids as well as you know an ESCAPE plan.
    Have a wonderful blessed day!!

I am so glad everyone is okay. Never be afraid to call 911 – fire is unpredictable. My husband is a firefighter and has heard/seen fires that were hidden in the house and people were unaware. Better safe than sorry! Love that instinct that God gives us in those situations. Again, glad everyone is okay and that everything is taken care of – good for you for acting as you did!! :)

I’m sitting here with my mouth gaping open and chill bumps all over me. I am so thankful it was no worse and completely agree with everything you said. Our God is an awesome God. I’m glad all is well. My goodness. I am sure you are still sort of in disbelief that it even happened.

I once had a wooden spoon and another time a plastic spoon get on the DW heating element. STINKY and scary.

Yes, register appliances so recalls can find you. So glad you knew about the recall and have it all under control. My goodness. The what if’s have me asking DO YOU HAVE SMOKE DETECTORS WITH FRESH BATTERIES??????????
