Of course, it’s nice to have a list of ideas, but before you begin, you need an Elf that can move into many of these creative ideas.

How do I prop my Elf ?

For many elf prop ideas, you want an elf that can prop up or bend. Follow this DIY Bendable Elf tutorial.  In under 10 minutes, you can have a bendable, moveable Christmas Elf that can take all sorts of positions. The thicker you wire your elf, the more likely you can get your Elf to stand or bend.

Elf Stand

Can Elf stand? Of course. Other ways to prop your Elf are with string, tape, and leaning against a solid object. Having a clear 12 inch doll stand (typically for a Barbie) is a very helpful Elf prop.

Another way to get the holiday Elf to stand is using the standing prop. Having an Elf standing up can change all of your ideas. A new Elf prop this year is the Stand prop. This standing gear includes fun shoes and plastic pants so that the little guy can stand up.

How can I print my own playing cards at home?

To print your own printable deck of cards at home, you need a deck of cards template PDF. Make sure you have supplies including a printer, printer ink, and printer paper. Printing on cardstock will give you strong and sturdy cards and a laminator will give you a glossy finish.

Follow along for instructions on printing a deck of cards and using it with or without a holiday elf visitor.

Printable Playing Cards

Ready to bring a little bit of Christmas cheer to your house? How about a fun activity for your child and their North Pole visitor?

It’s effortless to download and print your playing cards PDF. Grab a few supplies and follow these directions for how to get your set of miniature playing cards.

Supplies

• An Elf
• Deck of Playing Cards Printable PDF (see below)
• Printer
• Printer Ink
• Cardstock or Printer Paper
• Scissors
• Glue Stick

Instructions

First, you need your deck of cards downloadable templates. This will give you a standard deck or quantity of 52 playing cards and the back of the cards. Includes hearts, spades, diamonds and clubs. In addition to the cards Ace to King, you will get 2 jokers and 2 Elf shoes.  You can put aside these mini-card additions if they do not fit your game.

Print your printable playing cards. For the best quality, this is best printed on cardstock and maybe sent to your local copy center.

Cut each card out as well as the back of the card. Using a glue stick, glue the back and front together. The final dimensions for each card will be approximately 0.9 inches wide x 1.3 inches tall.

Tip: For a smooth finish, consider laminating your cards before you cut them.

Instructions

Using our weather printable, print out the weather chart (see below.) Cut apart the pieces

Have your little guy deliver it to your child one evening. Hang the chart beside the Christmas Elf.

In the morning your child will see this weather chart.

Talk to them about the observations they see outside and help them use glue or tape to add today’s weather to the weather map.

Write down the high and low.

Do this weather report for one day or keep a running list of weather for the month.

Take it Further

For a few extra ideas for this Elf idea, consider the following.

• Take National Weather Service just for kids station to extend the lesson.
• Use a drink umbrella and Barbie raincoat for a fun weather man elf idea.
• Label your visitor with a fun name like Jim Cantore or another famous meteorologist name

Did you know the North Pole is rather cold? I know, I know. Obvious question. However, while many understand the North Pole is rather cold, they don’t always recognize that elves love the sun. Visiting their host family during the holiday season is a great time to de-thaw, take an elf beach vacation, or pull out the fake and bake.

If you are looking to give your Elf beach props, consider this funny s-ELF tanning kit. Add a desk lamp and some sun shades (Barbie sunglasses are great for this) and you are all set to complete this quick and easy idea for Elf.

Punny Elf Self Tanning Kit

No, we didn’t misspell funny. This cheeky elf idea is rather punny and plays on the phrase self-tanning kit. Instead of tanning spray, we use Cheese Whiz and cheese balls for the best orange tan ever!

Pun: a joke exploiting the different possible meanings of a word or the fact that there are words which sound alike but have different meanings.

Supplies

Who doesn’t love a few holiday elf props you can eat later? If you’re a faux cheese eater (wink – wink), this adorable idea is for you. Gather the following supplies for your witty visitor.

• An Elf
• Towel
• Beach Props
• Cheese Balls (we use Utz Cheese Balls)
• Canned Cheese Spray  (we used Kraft Easy Cheese)
• Self-Tanning Kit Printable Set (see below)
• Printer paper
• Printer
• Scissors
• Tape or Glue

Directions

It’s time to pull this Hilarious Idea into motion. First, you will need to download your funny Self Tanning Kit printable.

Once you complete your purchase and download your PDF file, print it from your home computer or (print at Staples.) For reference, I printed mine from my home computer and they still gave me though bright, eye-catching pops of color.

Next, cut out your labels. Use a glue stick or double-sided tape to attach the labels to your canned cheese spray and container of cheese balls. I actually wrapped the labels around both cheese products and tabled them on the back side of the item.

Stage your Elf in a fun relaxing position on a beach towel.

Extend this Funny Elf Idea

You can always go a step further than we did with this fun idea. Using the tanning kit, incorporate some of these other easy and fun holiday elf ideas.

• Are you going on vacation? Elf can travel with you. Maybe he can bring a fun beach basket filled with things for the trip.
• Use this idea with our fun beach backdrop for Elf. You can add sandbox sand and some shells for a fun scene.
• Put Elf under a heat lamp, like a tanning bed. This can be done with a desk lamp.
• Add some Barbie and Ken Beach Clothes for Elf props. I used a surf vest from my 1980s Barbie accessories.

What are some other orange foods I can use?

Of course, if cheese in a can or small snowballs of cheese are not your thing, try some of these other orange foods to pull off your funny Elf idea. You will need to get clever for how you use the s-ELF tanning kit labels on these items, but it’s still doable.
