Do Doubt you have been following all of my endless Elf on the Shelf Ideas! How about a lesson or two in it’s use.

Whether you are a fan or not of the Elf on a Shelf, you can’t deny that it is a holiday phenomenon that has captured the interest of families everywhere. The Elf on a Shelf is a simple concept, that the elf will act as the eyes and ears of Santa until Christmas Day. However over the years the ways to arrange and display your elf has grown by leaps and bounds, a movie has been created, and you can now even buy Elf on a Shelf clothing, games, and other collectibles. And while you may be quick to think if all as silly, a waste of time, or not in tune with the holiday spirit, the truth is we can learn a lot from it. Take a look below at 7 lessons from Elf on the Shelf.

1. We are all children at heart.

The thousands of pictures of elves getting into mischief all over the internet have shown us one thing: that we are all children at heart. Most kids would have been fine discovering their elf in a tree, or drawer, or bookshelf, but as adults we have embraced the fun and found some of the most creative (and hysterical!) ways to display the elves.

2. Sharing traditions is fun.

Do you have friends enjoying the Elf on the Shelf tradition? How many times have you called or text them in the last few weeks to share a funny picture or idea? When a community shares a tradition, we talk and interact more because of it, and that is a great thing!

3. Everyone has a little creativity in them.

Some of the Elf on a Shelf scenarios circling the internet are a riot. And whether you have an elf or not, chances are you have thought of a fun elf scenario or two. You can’t deny that the elf brings out a little Christmas creativity in all of us!

4. A little mystery is magic.

The elf on the shelf offers mystery. Children never know where it will be, or what it will get into. And so, that looks like magic in their eyes. Magic and Christmas go hand in hand, and so the bit of mystery the elf provides certainly adds to the spirit.

5. For some holiday fun, embrace old traditions.

The elf on the shelf (or knee huggers) as they use to be called have been around since the 1950’s. Once wildly popular, they died off for a few decades and just now made a comeback. Are you looking for some new and exciting holiday traditions? Then take a dive into the past. Chances are, there are plenty worth revisiting.

6. Photo documenting is a blast.

Taking a daily photo of the elf is essentially photo documenting, which is a great way to remember events in your life. Don’t stop at just the elf. Find other events in life worth snapping a picture of daily for 25 days, or even 5 or 10 days. It is fun, and a great way to document memories.

7. Never take no for answer.

When the Elf on a Shelf author/creator presented her idea to publishers a few years ago, she was turned down numerous times. So she took the concept on for herself and self published her Elf on a Shelf book. Fast forward to now, when one million copies, millions of elves, books, movies, and other Elf on the Shelf memorabilia have sold. So while she laughs all of the way to the bank, learn for yourself that you should never take no for an answer when you believe in something.

So there you have it… 7 lessons that the Elf on the Shelf has taught us. Hopefully you have learned a few along the way and if not, it is not too late!
