The English Patient is an award winning book that races the intersection of four damaged lives in an abandoned Italian villa at the end of World War II, including the English patient. The man is nameless and hideously burned, and both a riddle and a provocation to his companions.

We loved the movie A Wrinkle in Time, and I’m super excited to see it on Netflix now. If you haven’t read the book yet, you need to. As is usually the case, the book is even better than the movie!

Suite Française sounds like a fascinating book, one that is going on my to-read list. It tells the remarkable story of men and women thrown together in circumstances beyond their control as Parisians flee the city the night before the Nazi occupation in 1940.

A Long Way Home was turned into the movie Lion, which was nominated for 6 Academy Awards. This is the miraculous and triumphant story of Saroo Brierley, a young man who used Google Earth to rediscover his childhood life and home in an incredible journey from India to Australia and back again.

The Revised Fundamentals of Caregiving is now the Neflix original film The Fundamentals of Caring starring Paul Rudd and Selena Gomez. This is the story of a man who lost everything and is starting over by taking a night class called The Fundamentals of Caregiving to learn how to take care of people with disabilities. When he starts to care for Trevor, a teenager who is in the advanced stages of Duchenne muscular dystrophy, the two develop a close friendship and end up taking a road trip together. By the end of that journey, Trevor has had his first taste of love, and Ben has found a new reason to love life.

Cold Mountain is the story of Inman, a Confederate soldier who walks across the South to get home to the Blue Ridge mountains and his love, Ada. His trek brings him into contact with slaves and marauders, bounty hunters and witches, both helpful and malign.
