Amazon’s Top Kids’ Books of 2019

Looking for some new books for your kids to read? I’m always looking for new ones to add to our collection, so I’m excited to see Amazon’s Top Kids’ Books of 2019. These range from picture books for the littles to chapter books for the older kids.

Dear Sweet Pea is the story of a girl learning to navigate life with divorced parents and an ex-best friend. One day, her neighbor leaves for a trip and asks Sweet Pea to forward her the letters for her local advice column. And Sweet Pea happens to recognize the handwriting on one of the envelopes. What she decides to do with that letter sets off a chain of events that will forever change the lives of Sweet Pea DiMarco, her family, and many of the readers of “Miss Flora Mae I?”

If you have a child who doesn’t feel comfortable in her own skin, Sulwe is a must-read. Sulwe has skin the color of midnight. She is darker than everyone in her family. She is darker than anyone in her school. Sulwe just wants to be beautiful and bright, like her mother and sister. Then a magical journey in the night sky opens her eyes and changes everything. In this stunning debut picture book, actress Lupita Nyong’o creates a whimsical and heartwarming story to inspire children to see their own unique beauty.

Explore dance in all of its creativity, humor, and joy when you read How Do You Dance? to your kids. This picture book tells how the best way to dance is exactly how you want to. You can jiggle or wiggle or stomp. You can bop or bounce or go completely nuts. You can dance at the market or the bus stop, with your fingers or your face. You can dance because you’re happy or even because you’re sad.

My daughter LOVES the book Guts. Raina wakes up one night with a terrible upset stomach. Her mom has one, too, so it’s probably just a bug. Raina eventually returns to school, where she’s dealing with the usual highs and lows: friends, not-friends, and classmates who think the school year is just one long gross-out session. It soon becomes clear that Raina’s tummy trouble isn’t going away… and it coincides with her worries about food, school, and changing friendships. This book is a thoughtful, charming, and funny true story about growing up and gathering the courage to face and conquer fears.

Little ones will love the book Truman. After his best friend Sarah leaves for her first day of school, a tortoise named Truman goes on an adventure across the living room and learns to be brave in this thoughtful and heartwarming twist on a first experience story.

The Dog Man books are super popular, so Dog Man: For Whom the Ball Rolls is a must-have. The Supa Buddies have been working hard to help Dog Man overcome his bad habits. But when his obsessions turn to fears, Dog Man finds himself the target of an all-new supervillain! Meanwhile, Petey the Cat has been released from jail and starts a new life with Li’l Petey. But when Petey’s own father arrives, Petey must face his past to understand the difference between being good and doing good.

6 Books to Read on Christmas Eve

This post may contain affiliate links or ads. Read my privacy policy and disclosure policy here.

Christmas will be here before we know it. If you’re looking for some fun books to read with the kids, we have 6 Books to Read on Christmas Eve. And, don’t miss out on these 50 Best Christmas Books for Children.

A Cup of Christmas Tea is the story of a young man’s reluctant visit to an elderly aunt at Christmastime, and the unexpected joy it brings. I actually picked up this book for my older kids to read on Christmas Eve and for my mother in law.

Read the story of Jesus’ birth from the animals’ perspectives in Who is Coming to Our House? As Pig makes room, Lamb cleans up, Goose stacks the hay, and Duck lines the crib with eiderdown, Mary and Joseph are on their way by donkey. All the animals are eager to welcome the baby Jesus to their home. We read this book almost every night for the younger boys.

Obsessed is the best word I can use to describe my love for this book! We’ve all heard about the three wise men who went to visit Baby Jesus, but what about the camels who carried them? Humphreys First Christmas is the story of Humphrey the camel and his long, cold journey to Bethlehem. Humphrey has lost his blanket and schemes to acquire a new one. When the party reaches its destination, Humphrey is so drawn to the love surrounding Baby Jesus that he finds himself selflessly giving his new blanket to the Christ child.

This book reminds me of Christmas Eve at my own house. My grandfather would always read this to us. Does anyone else on this Christmas Tradition for The Night Before Christmas on Christmas Eve? The story of Santa’s trip to deliver presents is a must-have for every household!

Such a beautiful book! Room for a Little One: A Christmas Tale is another book telling the story of Jesus’ birth. All are welcome because there’s always room for a little one.

The Christmas Baby is the telling of the Christmas story in board book form, so it’s the perfect book to read to your babies on Christmas Eve.

Most Popular Books of 2019 – Have You Read Them?

The year is coming to an end, which means it’s time to see which were the most popular books of the year. We have some of the most popular books of 2019 for you. Have you read them? If not, make sure you grab them and get started!

If you read The Handmaid’s Tale, you definitely need to read The Testaments if you haven’t yet. This is the sequel and is another New York Times #1 Best Seller. This book takes place more than fifteen years after the events of The Handmaid’s Tale. The theocratic regime of the Republic of Gilead maintains its grip on power, but there are signs it is beginning to rot from within.

The Nickel Boys is one of the New York Times’ best books of the decade. This is the story of two boys sentenced to a hellish reform school – called The Nickel Academy – in Jim Crow-era Florida. Though billed as a place where delinquent boys can become “honorable and honest men”, it is actually a place of horrors where boys are beaten and abused.

Named as a best book of 2019 by NPR, Slate and more, Wild Game: My Mother, Her Lover, and Me is the author’s memoir of the time when she helped orchestrate what would become an epic affair between her mother and her father’s closest friend. The affair would have calamitous consequences for everyone involved, impacting Adrienne’s life in profound ways, driving her into a precarious marriage of her own, and then into a deep depression. Only years later would she get the courage and strength to address everything on her own terms.

The Starless Sea focuses on Zachary Ezra Rawlins, a graduate student in Vermont who discovers a mysterious book. As he turns the pages, entranced by tales of lovelorn prisoners, key collectors, and nameless acolytes, he reads something strange: a story from his own childhood. Confused and bewildered, Zachary uncovers a series of clues—a bee, a key, and a sword—that lead him to a masquerade party in New York, to a secret club, and through a doorway to an ancient library hidden far below the surface of the earth.

If you love mysteries and thrillers, you’ll love The Silent Patient. This book is a shocking psychological thriller of a woman’s act of violence against her husband―and of the therapist obsessed with uncovering her motive.

The Dutch House is the story of two siblings, their childhood home and a past that won’t let them go. It explores the indelible bond between siblings and digs deeply into questions of inheritance, love and forgiveness, of how we want to see ourselves and of who we really are.
