This giveaway is closed. Congratulations goes to Brenda!

So many of you shop the outer ring of the grocery store. The walls are lined with fresh products and cellophane wrapped meats. These items often are the hardest to save on, but definitely keep us away from the processed foods founds among the inner aisles.

I often get asked, how do you save on meat? Truth is, not many coupons come out for fresh meat and if they do they are so rare and also so small in value. My answer – shop OUTSIDE of the grocery store. Yes, the farmer’s market gives us fresh veggies and fruits and we might have a local meat farm to get protein, but there is another option that might come to your area regularly – Zaycon Foods.

Just recently I got a 40 lb  case of Chicken from Zaycon. This was a large box full of FRESH chicken – butchered just a FEW days ago. Let me tell you, my and my freezer had quite the party separating and storing this meat.

Each Box

  •  Has 100% natural chicken with no added hormones, additives or artifical ingredients
  • Comes directly from the farm and has never been frozen
  • Is Sold by the case — 40 lbs in each case
  • Has a Warranty – We warrant that all food products sold and delivered by Zaycon Food will be of acceptable quality, fit for consumption and free from spoilage and damage. To this end, we ask each customer to open and inspect each case of product the same day they receive the product from Zaycon Foods. If, upon close examination of the contents, the customer finds the product to be of unacceptable quality, we will arrange the return of the partial or complete order and will refund the payment accordingly.

What makes this chicken so great. First it is a stockpile of meat at ROCK BOTTOM prices. It is hand delivered to you for cheaper than you would find at your local grocery store. On average, you will purchase 40 lbs of meat for around $1.60/lb!

How does this work? Zaycon Foods sets up events in various locations around the country. You can purchase high-qualitiy healthy food products at retail prices. You will make your purchase in bulk – which is how you save. Of course, not all events are in all areas, but you can sign up at Zaycon and they will notify you via email when they will be in your neck of the woods so that you can arrange to stop by and pick up your meat.

To find out about events near you, all you need to do is go to Zaycon Foods and create an account (use the code FrugalCouponLiving  as your referral ID). Once your account is set up, you can click on View My Account and you will instantly find any events that are a region that is close to you.

One Frugal Coupon Living Reader will win a $65 credit for your Zaycon account for a delivery in your area. If you win and do not live inside the delivery locations, Zaycon will send a $30 check.

My fave chicken recipe is similar to pulled pork. I don’t really follow a recipe but rather just throw unmeasured ingredients into my slow cooker. Usually, I put BBQ sauce, italian dressing, worchestior sauce, brown sugar/honey and if we want it spicy some red chile. Slow cook it on low for 4 hours/ or until fork tender, shred with forks and thicken sauce with some corn starch, mix it all together and heat for another 45min. Yum! I also love to have a lite colsaw to eat with it!

I am HORRIBLE at following recipes. My body starts itching on the inside, I feel as though I’ve been drugged & need to start running around in circles when I TRY to follow recipes. There is always something I feel the need to add or adjust. Also, I don’t measure. Well, occasionally…If forced. There is just something about homemade recipes with a pinch of this & a dash of that, that warms my heart (and tummy!).
That being said, the best chicken recipe I’ve made from scratch, I came up with right after my husband & I were married & I was still learning to cook. I knew how to heat plenty of things, and I could make things like BLT’s & eggs. But I was just learning to experiment with chicken. I could fry it in a pan & I really enjoyed how it came out. But I didn’t know how to do a whole lot beyond that. One day while my DH was at work, I decided to do a “special” dinner. We didn’t have a kitchen table at the time, but I decided to set up candles on the kitchen floor. I don’t remember the specific spices I used. I do know, I chopped apples & pears, and I added them to the pan of chicken breasts with a little pepper, cinnamon & sugar & some butter. I baked them off in the oven, uncorked a bottle of sparkling cider & the hubby & I ate on the kitchen floor by candlelight. In 7 years of marriage, my cooking skills have grown exponentially!!! I wouldn’t call myself a “master” or anything, but I can sure as heck cook up some GOOOOOOD grub now! He has a lot of 2nd favorites & I often catch him closing his eyes & sighing with a big smile on his face (when he thinks I’m not looking generally) while he takes his first bites of his meal…Sometimes I wonder if I’m gonna have to mop him up before dinner is over. To this day though, that first chicken dinner is his favorite meal I’ve ever made.

My favorite recipe to make with chicken is chicken and broccoli. Its simple… diced chicken, broccoli, cream of mushroom soup, diced garlic, a touch of lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, mayo and pepper… sometimes i get more creative and add other ingredients too.

I signed up with Zaycon foods and this is my favorite recipe because it is inexpensive to make and tastes really good.

    Mexican Chicken Casserole

12 oz chicken breasts cut into bite size pieces
    1 tsp taco seasoning
1 bell pepper seeded and chopped
    1 1/2 cups salsa
    2 oz cream cheese
1 can of black beans, drained and rinsed
1 can of diced tomatoes, drained
    2 corn tortillas
    1/2 cup shredded mexican cheese

Preheat oven 375. Wrm skillet over medium heat, mist with cooking spray. Add chicken and taco seasoning and cook, stirring, for 2 minutes. Add cream cheese, cook, stirring constantly, until melted and blended, about 2 minutes. Stir in beans and tomato.

Spoon 1/3 of chicken mixture into 8″ square baking dish. cover with 1 tortilla, then spoon in 1/2 of remaining chicken mixture and 1/2 of cheese. Top with remaining tortilla and chicken mixture.

Cover and bake until heated through, about 20 minutes. Uncover and sprinkel with remaining cheese. Bake, uncovered, until cheese has melted, about 5 minutes longer.
