Closed. Giveaway: Hallmark Recordable Storybooks

This giveaway is closed. Congratulations Sindy and Mandi.

This past month I went on a business trip that sent me away from my family for four nights. With two precious little girls, the routine of stories before bedtime was something I was going to miss greatly!

I felt so EXCITED when Hallmark sent over a Recordable Storybook – All the Ways I Love You. This book was precious. Not only were the verses and pages adorable, but I was able to sit down and easily record my voice. I loved that my girls could hear me every night when I was gone. Beyond that, I love that the book was available in their room for times when I was not around – like in the night, right before they fall asleep and need one last comfort of their mommy.

In addition to All the Ways I Love You, Hallmark has other Recordable Books. They have Guess How Much I Love You, Counting Kisses, On the Night You Were Born, My Little Princess and more!

Each of these books are pages and memories that can be captured forever. Even when the batteries go, and you place them with new ones – you voice is not lost. As much as my two little gals will go through a couple years of rolling their eyes when moms pulls this book out for the 1,000th time, I know they will appreciate it one day when they are grown and perhaps have kids of their own. You also can record over the original voice. When my daughter’s start to read, I plan to have them record so I can instead capture their little voices.

Two Frugal Coupon Living Readers will win one Hallmark Recordable Storybook. Choose among – All the Ways I Love You, Counting Kisses or Guess How Much I Love You.

Use the code BLISS30 on the Hallmark website for 30% off your order. Offer code expires 2/28.

Have You Tried This Yet? P&G Campaign

published date: February 23, 2011

You might have noticed on Facebook that I had the pleasure of visiting with Procter & Gamble Company (P&G) during their Have You Tried This Yet? campaign in South Beach (Miami, Florida.)

Present at this event were bloggers, consumers, moms, dads – people who are looking for the quality and simplicity of P&G’s everyday solution items. Also in appearance were Jim Leish (Marketing Director for P&G), Nataraj Iyer (Associate Marketing Director at P&G), Marsha Chilko (Senior Beauty Education Manager), Roxana Garcia (Hispanic TV Host and Radio Personality), as well as Dr. Michelle R. Callahan  (psychologist and life coach).

Some interesting facts that P&G shared were that they spent nearly $2 billion in research and development in 2010 – 50% more than their closest competitor and more than most of their competitors combined. Marsha shared that lipstick hues popular this season include corals and pinks. Having a blue undertone helps your teeth appear whiter (as do Oral-B Pro-Health products – wink.) I also appreciated Michelle’s advice on simplifying your life by picking up as much as you can at one location – I cannot tell you how often I chase deals around town.

P&G Products to Try Out and Their Product Claim:

  • Pantene® Medium-Thick: Focuses on smoothing the hair even after the second day of wash.
  • Oral-B®/Crest® Pro-Health Products: Removes plaque and bacteria build-up quicker than the average, manual toothbrush.
  • Puffs®Lotion: Intense mositurizer to comfort your face and nose in times when you most need it.
  • COVERGIRL® LashBlast Fusion: Beyond volume, this mascara offers length – a two for one special for me!
  • Charmin®Ultra Soft: More absorbant and softer than the typical store brand. Impressive demonstration how how moisture is absorbed.
  • Downy®Clean Breeze: Imagine a week of smelling the “just out of the dryer” freshness in your clothes.
  • Tide® Original with ActiLift: Removing even dry stains from your clothing.
  • Swiffer®WetJet: Quickly cleans your floors compared to the mop and bucket.
  • Gillette®ProGlide Razor & Scrub: Reducing the tug of the razor against the air, and TRULY WARMING the skin preparing it for a shave.

If the words don’t do justice, be sure to check out what Cover Girl did for my face and Pantene did for my hair! My favorite stations had to be the trial of these beauty products. Speaking with a stylist, he shared with me how each of the Pantene products could protect, condition, and hold my hair.  The Medium-Thick Hairspray held my waves in place into the night and through the next morning. Chatting with my friend and Frugal Coupon Living helper, I shared with her how I was in rut with my lipstick. I have been using the same color and buying the same products for years. Sitting with a makeup artist, she helped me branch out, introducing me to a new color called “kiss” that had coral undertones perfect for my skin color. She also taught me how to use under the eye liner showing me how to “set” the liner into place by lightly putting powder on top to prevent bleeding.

I also was quite impressed with the Swiffer WetJet. Combining the power of a mop and our beloved Swiffer sweeper, this baby has the power to clean your floors with minimal effort. The Charmin Ultra Soft station compared their toilet paper to the leading competitor.  Three sprays on the roll (mimicking dampness) stays on the top layer, while on the competitor it went down 2 layers.

If you happen to be in the Miami, Florida area, check out the FREE interactive Have You Tried This Yet? Pop-Up experience from  February 18 – 27.  Open to the Public, get demonstrations and product samples from brands such as Pantene®, Oral-B®, Gillette®, Downy®, Swiffer®, COVERGIRL®, and Puffs®.  Visit 843 Lincoln Road Sunday – Thursday, 11:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m. and Friday – Saturday, 11:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m.

Be sure to pick up the newspaper Sunday, February 27th. P&G will distribute a brandSAVER with $131 in coupons – I can’t wait! For now, don’t forget that you can get $39 worth of coupons on the Have You Tried This Yet? website.

Disclosure: I was provided a trip to South Beach to visit with P&G and learn more about their products including Pantene, Cover Girl, Tide, Swiffer, Olay and more!

Product Review – Dyson DC35

This post may contain affiliate links or ads. Read my privacy policy and disclosure policy here.

February 21, 2011 by Ashley at Frugal Coupon Living Filed Under: Review

published date: February 21, 2011
modified datt: February 20,2011

You might remember me sharing about the DC31 vacuum. Don’t let the size of the DC31 fool you – this little thing means POWER! Spinning five times faster than a Formula 1 race car, this was a vacuum my family frequently used (multiple times a week.) In fact, recently when our vacuum cleaner was not performing, this hand held was doing most of the house work – that a lot of pressure on 3 lb piece of fine machinery.

Dyson knew I LOVED my fine, little friend, that they gave me the challenge of the next level, the Dyson DC35 or Digital Slim. Similar to the DC31, the DC35 is POWERFUL!

The Digital Slim can also be used on many floor surfaces including carpet, ceramic, vinyl and wood. It is lightweight. The system and attachable aluminum wand are only 4.96 lbs. Easy to lift to the top of your curtains, small enough to tuck under your coffee table or even couch. Improvements include a 26.1 inch detachable long-reach wand, six to 15 minutes of constant suction, and a functional docking station that takes up little room.

Product Features

  • Digital Motor – It spins up to 3 times faster than conventional motors.
  • Root Cyclone™ Technology – spinning dust and dirt straight form your floor to a compact bin.
  • Detachable Long-reach Wand – perfect for high places or awkward gaps.
  • 2.2V Lithium-ion Battery – no power fade and charges 3 times faster than the average battery
  • 2 Year Warranty – covers parts and labor.

The DC35 is my first choice for quick messes. It quickly snaps in and out’s base, requires no plugging in, is INCREDIBLY powerful, and allows me to stand up (if I desire  – no bending over for this cordless vacuum). Light weight, strong suction and efficient – enough said!

Recently, I reached out to Dyson. I was looking for a manual on how to ask your friend back for your Dyson (chuckle). No, my friend was not borrowing my Dyson Vacuum – I gifted her the vacuum when I received a newer, well-known brand vacuum with an MSRP of around $500.  My husband and I chatted and after having two very expensive vacuums on which to giveaway. We figured, we should go with the newer brand since our Dyson DC25 Animal Vacuum was 5 years old.  BIG MISTAKE! Within 3 months, the vacuum wasn’t picking up. After spending an hour on the phone with customer support and getting no response after an email, I had a useless vacuum – It wasn’t providing suction. I am not someone who would ask anyone back for a gift that I gave. So I kept moving forward. I wanted Dyson to know I had a tried and true story – I had a terrible experience with a rather expensive vacuum. I am someone who reaches out to companies when I am satisfied with a product (so many companies hear only the negative.)

It turns out, even customer service could not help me with my problem vacuum. The issue ended up being clogged tubes. Why did I never have this issue with Dyson after five years of use?  The secret is Root Cyclone™ technology. That means Dyson vacuums don’t lose suction power as you clean.  Dyson Vacuums generate centrifugal forces that spin dust and dirt out of the air and straight into the bin. The bin pops open for easy, stress-free cleaning. Long story short, in my opinion, when buying an expensive vacuum – go with the brand who knows vacuums, go with Dyson!

Keep an eye out for the new Dyson Airblade hand dryer. I have seen a couple of these in airports and restaurants. It’s fast (12 seconds), hygienic, and is good for the environment. Very impressive!  What’s next Dyson?

Where Can You Find the Digital Slim?

Target: $299 plus $4.99 S&H

The Tail of the Diaper Pail – Part 2

This post may contain affiliate links or ads. Read my privacy policy and disclosure policy here.

February 12, 2011 by Ashley at Frugal Coupon Living Filed Under: Review

published date: June 24, 2010
modified datt: February 12,2011

I am in the final week of my diaper pail review. Let me remind you where I last left you off HERE.  I am comparing two popular diaper pails- The Diaper Genie II Elite (left) and Arm & Hammer Diaper Pail by Munchkin (right). I have two children in diapers so diaper changing occurs often in this home.  In the last post, I shared with you some pros and cons to the pails.  The size of the two varied greatly. The Diaper Genie was tall and slender while the munchkin was rather short. I appreciated the scent dispenser (Arm & Hammer) on the Munchkin while the Diaper Genie had a nice foot pedal for opening the top.

My Summary

Diaper Genie II Elite ($34.54 on Amazon, Refills are $16.54 for a pack of 3)

  • I definitely appreciated ALL BUT ONE feature of this diaper pail. First I liked that it was taller so it held more diapers. It stood in the corner of the room and could go unnoticed. It was very easy to drop a diaper in the container with no hands available because of the foot pedal. The odor in the beginning was not a problem and still remained to fee of isues until a full container yielded a nasty odor when a new diaper was placed in the pail. In other words, when the lid open the lid open and the fumes escaped! There was no way to contain this smell. One final appreciation was that it as easy to throw trash away in addition to diapers. I don’t want to have a trash can AND a diaper pail in my child’s room.

Arm & Hammer Diaper Pail (Priced $29 on Amazon, Refills are $6.99 for 10 bags)

  • My favorite feature of this pail was the mouth of the container when it was open. There was never a change for fumes to escape when you were placing a new diaper in the pail.  Two features I could not stand about this pail were the height (I was bending over a lot put diaper in) and the latch (It was hard to hold a baby, diaper, and open the pail).  I told you earlier how the pail was broken the second I took it out of the box. I called Munchkin and they asked simply that I take a picture of the pail and they would send me a replacement! Very easy and great customer service. That goes for two thumbs up in my book.

All and all there are two features that I don’t like of both of these pails – they require you to buy the refills. I love pails that can utilized kitchen garbage bags. Both refills are pretty reasonable, however, especially for how often you change them.  If I had to declare an absolute favorite, though, it would be the Diaper Genie II Elite. The pail held the most diapers, was taller, required me to not have to use my hands ,took trash, and kept the smell out at all times other than when I was placing a new diaper in the pail. To make the Diaper Genie the best, I would advise they change the mouth to be more like the Munchkin – Free of releasing odors. While I did not deal with customer service on the Diaper Genie, Munkchin was very accommodating and that is important to me.

Do you have either? Tell me your thoughts!

Disclosure: I am a member of the Mom Central community and I wrote this review while participating in a Test Drive campaign by Mom Central, sponsored by Diaper Genie, and received a free Diaper Genie diaper pail and a free Munchkin Arm & Hammer diaper pail to facilitate my review.

Perricone MD

I must confess some embarrassing facts. My facial routine each morning and night consists of a pharmacy store brand astringent (AND THAT IS IT!) Embarrassing, I know! Talk about drying out and not taking care of your face!
.
I was not really sure what my skin would think when I tried the Advanced Face Firming Activator from NV Perricone. I think the reaction was less of what my skin thought and more of what I thought. WOW!  I was yearning to put this activator on morning AND night (this is a morning product.) It was like I was addicted. My skin must have been begging for this item for years.

With the use of the Advanced Face Firming Activator I actually had people tell me I was looking more like myself (post labor.) I wasn’t feeling any different and am still feeling pretty tired (the baby is not yet sleeping through the night) so I attributed it to perhaps more of a glow or healthy look on my face.

I am thrilled to share that one lucky Frugal Coupon Living reader is going to be able to try the Advanced Eye Area Therapy.  Formulated with DMAE and Alpha Lipoic Acid, the Advanced Eye Area Therapy is intended to help prevent and correct the early signs of aging that appear around the delicate eye area, making us look older than we really are. It minimizes the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and puffiness, while diminishing dark circles and discoloration with Vitamin C Ester.

This giveaway is closed. Congratulations, Mayo.

My husband and I cook almost every night and believe me when I say that our cookware we got for our wedding was all but falling apart!  It was reliable but not top of the line or anything.  We coveted new cookware and let me tell you – this is what we were looking for – at a fraction of the cost!

Better Homes and Garden came to the rescue. First of all, the box is heavy, which tells you this is good stuff.  The thicker the cookware, the better it retains heat.  Developed with the famous Better Homes and Gardens Test Kitchen, the BHG 13-Piece Hard-Anodized Cookware Set includes well-designed pieces for preparing all of your family’s favorite recipes. Hard-anodized construction makes the set a durable choice for years of use, and the unique Triple Performance Grid, which looks kind of like a quilt in the bottom of the pans, ensures excellent browning and delicious flavor. The pans clean up quickly – no scrubbing.  In fact, we were unable to clean the 1.5 qt. saucepan until the next day after making a cream sauce for Thanksgiving and it came right off!

13-piece set includes:

  • Riveted silicone and stainless-steel handles for comfort
  • Glass lids to help monitor cooking progress
  • Oven safe to 400°F
  • Lifetime limited warranty
  • Hand washing recommended
  • 1 covered saucepan with lid 1.5-qt. (1.4L)
  • 1 covered saucepan with lid and steamer insert 2.5-qt. (2.3L)
  • 1 covered Dutch oven with lid 4-qt. (3.8L)
  • 1 covered stock pot with lid 8-qt. (7.5L)
  • 1 skillet 8.5″, 1 skillet 10″
  • 1 covered deep skillet with lid 4-qt. (3.8L)
  • Compatible with most all cook-tops with the exception of induction

In relation to this line, Better Homes and Gardens has more to offer. Three quality lines of pots and pans including the Non-Stick Hard-Anodized, Tri-Ply Clad 18/10 Stainless Steel, and Non-Stick Porcelain Enamel. Beyond Pots and Pans, BHG now has bakeware – cake, cookie, muffin, pie loaf and pizza pans, small appliances – blender, food processor, coffee pot and stand mixer; and Enamel Cast Iron pieces that are appropriate for from oven-to-table presentation. Look as well for kitchen gadgets, knives and food storage.

One of the best things about the Non-Stick Hard-Anodized Set, is that it is only is it from a trust brand but it is available at Walmart for an affordable price of $149.99!  If you order it online (after this giveaway, of course!), you can get it shipped Site to Store to save the shipping, although it is available in stores too.

The Pampered Chef Cookie Press

If you read enough of my blog, you know that I don’t claim to cook much/well.  In fact, I was a bit intimidated when I had to pull my mixer off the top shelf and remove the layer of dust. Okay, so I don’t use it much. I am not very familiar with kitchen tools, but I sure do appreciate them – perhaps more for the look and less for the use. That is why The Pampered Chef completely surprised me!

So when I received the opportunity to review the NEW Cookie Press from The Pampered Chef I was bit nervous. In fact, my idea for Santa’s cookies includes break-and-bake cookies. So here I was, dusty mixer and cookie press contraption in hand – how was I ever going to give this tool a try and prove to my readers I can make adorable little cookies? Will you believe me if I say I thought about running out to the store and buying a box, unwrapping the cookies, placing them in a plate and telling you I made them?

Since I am pretty good at step-by-step directions the recipe was easy-peasy. The next step was to put the dough into the press and create these adorable little Christmas trees. I read the directions and thought they must be wrong. At the beginning, I actually strayed from the directions because I though surely they didn’t know what they were talking about.  Thus Christmas Tree cookies were looking like mashed up layers of cookie dough. I then followed the steps and realized making the adorable cookies were not so hard after all! They were as easy at 1-2-3. NO JOKE! Put your cookie disk in (you can choose among 8 different disks), place the dough in, lay the press flat on the tray, make a 1/3 turn, lift and whola – a perfect Christmas Tree cookie. I promise – that easy.

New Cookie Press (Retail Value $29.50)

– Rotating press dispenses dough with a simple twist of the knob.

– Clear barrrel allows you to see how much dough is in the barrel.

– Comes with 10 metal disks: a ribbon for savory cheese straws, a potato ricer disk for perfect mashed potatoes and 8 decorative cookie deisgns.

– Dishwasher-safe
