This giveaway is closed. Congratulations, Mayo.

My husband and I cook almost every night and believe me when I say that our cookware we got for our wedding was all but falling apart!  It was reliable but not top of the line or anything.  We coveted new cookware and let me tell you – this is what we were looking for – at a fraction of the cost!

Better Homes and Garden came to the rescue. First of all, the box is heavy, which tells you this is good stuff.  The thicker the cookware, the better it retains heat.  Developed with the famous Better Homes and Gardens Test Kitchen, the BHG 13-Piece Hard-Anodized Cookware Set includes well-designed pieces for preparing all of your family’s favorite recipes. Hard-anodized construction makes the set a durable choice for years of use, and the unique Triple Performance Grid, which looks kind of like a quilt in the bottom of the pans, ensures excellent browning and delicious flavor. The pans clean up quickly – no scrubbing.  In fact, we were unable to clean the 1.5 qt. saucepan until the next day after making a cream sauce for Thanksgiving and it came right off!

13-piece set includes:

  • Riveted silicone and stainless-steel handles for comfort
  • Glass lids to help monitor cooking progress
  • Oven safe to 400°F
  • Lifetime limited warranty
  • Hand washing recommended
  • 1 covered saucepan with lid 1.5-qt. (1.4L)
  • 1 covered saucepan with lid and steamer insert 2.5-qt. (2.3L)
  • 1 covered Dutch oven with lid 4-qt. (3.8L)
  • 1 covered stock pot with lid 8-qt. (7.5L)
  • 1 skillet 8.5″, 1 skillet 10″
  • 1 covered deep skillet with lid 4-qt. (3.8L)
  • Compatible with most all cook-tops with the exception of induction

In relation to this line, Better Homes and Gardens has more to offer. Three quality lines of pots and pans including the Non-Stick Hard-Anodized, Tri-Ply Clad 18/10 Stainless Steel, and Non-Stick Porcelain Enamel. Beyond Pots and Pans, BHG now has bakeware – cake, cookie, muffin, pie loaf and pizza pans, small appliances – blender, food processor, coffee pot and stand mixer; and Enamel Cast Iron pieces that are appropriate for from oven-to-table presentation. Look as well for kitchen gadgets, knives and food storage.

One of the best things about the Non-Stick Hard-Anodized Set, is that it is only is it from a trust brand but it is available at Walmart for an affordable price of $149.99!  If you order it online (after this giveaway, of course!), you can get it shipped Site to Store to save the shipping, although it is available in stores too.

I had one REALLY bad experience the first time I used stainless steel pots with my chicken and dumplings SCORCHING on the bottom because I did not know they STICK really badly on the surface of stainless steel. I was only accustomed to using teflon/nonstick before lol

My worst is experience with pots and pans is before the current technology where everything would “burn” at the bottom and sit there. Then you go to stir and there is now burnt clumps mixed in the rest of the food – yuck!

My husband was helping me cook and had turned on the stove to start heating something up. Within minutes we heard a loud pop and clang. My darling husband had turned on the wrong burner, which our pizza stone was on, which caused the pizza stone to practically explode into several pieces. We then had to wait for dinner to heat up on the proper burner in our pot and were down a pizza stone :(

  37. Amy says

    December 6, 2010 at 9:38 AM

My worse experience just involved boiling water! I was trying to make deviled eggs for a family gather with my in-laws and went to drain the water. I ended up dumping the pot of boiling water straight onto my belly. Pretty painful to say the least especially since I was 8 months pregnant at the time. I still have a huge scar on my belly from the horrible burn! I often still ask my husband to drain any hot water or liquids I may have.

  38. Angie says

  40. Tanya T. says

One night I decided to cook spaghetti for dinner – but didn’t check whether my colander was clean. Murphy’s law being what it is, the strainer was dirty so I improvised – I held the lid on the large pan and tried to drain the water off the spaghetti. Gravity took over and the entire pot of water AND spaghetti went straight down the drain! Oh, and it got worse – I tried to run the garbage disposal and the pasta ended up clogging the pipes! My husband had to take the entire undersink plumbing apart to pull out the now coagulated pasta. I still haven’t lived this one down with my friends!

    December 6, 2010 at 9:45 AM

My worst cooking experience was making a delicious breakfast for the in-laws on their first visit to our home after we got married. I made scrambled eggs and sausage in my husband’s trusty, “survived his college years intact” non-stick skillet. I didn’t remember adding pepper but had lots of small black flakes mixed in with the food. As I served the food onto the plates, there were long, silver scratches on the non-stick skillet. Evidently, the skillet was in worse shape than we realized and the non-stick surface had come off during the cooking process. The good part was my mother-in-law took me that day to buy a new, top-of-the-line non-stick skillet that last 15 years and never said a word about my cooking.

My worst cooking experience was just recently. We were making instant mashed potatoes for the soup kitchen, and I asked my husband to measure and mix the water and milk into the flakes. We use huge pots when we cook, and he didn’t mix all the way to the bottom. Before too long, the dry flakes on the bottom of the pot scorched, and it really stunk up the kitchen.

My worst cooking experience – I had some cookware which I thought was pretty good – was a QVC item that seemed to do well on their shows. It was non-stick and the bottom had the even-heat feature. I was cooking lima beans one day and was trying to get them cooked down well. I forgot about it and fell asleep! The water completely boiled out, the beans dried up and started to smoke, and the bottom of the pot come completely apart from the rest ofthe pot. I’d never seen anything like it!

My worst cooking experience would be when O had 15 people coming over for dinner. I was making sausage and meatballs with spaghetti sauce. I was heading in the shower and asked my husband to stir the pot of sauce every 10 minutes or so. I came out and checked on the sauce, it was boiling over the side and was completely burnt about 1/3 way up the pot. He was on the phone with his mother, who was not invited to dinner, and she said I was stupid to slave over a pot, to turn the flame up and put a lid on it and leave it, it will be perfect. So he did. It smelled like cigarettes! It was awful!! Needless to say, we ended up using jarred sauce over pasta and ordering some pizzas. I hate my mother in law and she did this on purpose. She gladly brings it up when she can and smirks. And I just remember the other day, Hubby was making something on the stove and I asked him when he stirred it, he goes, I just turned it up and put a lid on it. Oh boy, the man will never learn!!

Anyway, somehow the fish started flaming and I didn’t realize it right away. I realized it after I heard a cracking sound and ran into the kitchen. The flames had cracked the glass in my oven door from the fire. I was able to put it out without burning down my house but it was a BAD experience. I didn’t cook with the stove or oven for awhile after that. If it couldn’t go into the microwave then I didn’t go near it. :-)

Worst experience. I’ll actually give 2, one was my fault the other my pans.
I had picked up my Grandma and brought her to my house, while we waited for my aunt to come to take her the rest of the way home. So I decided to make dinner for her. She slept on the couch the whole time(she was mad at the world, and just slept all the time for her last few months). So I put the powder gravy(I believe it was McCormick even, it can go with the other giveaway …lol) in the pot on the stove, then realized I was out of milk to put in the mashed potatoes, so I was going to go to the neighbors to borrow milk. As I was walking out the door the smoke alarm started going off….ugh I didn’t put water in the gravy, Pot was ruined. And we have decided not to replace it, as we are getting married and if I don’t win these, we are going to use wedding money to get new ones:)
@2nd, I realized the last time that I used my largest skillet(my fav until now) the Teflon is peeling out of it, wonder how much of that we have actually eaten?

That would be this Thanksgiving. My family came to my house and my grandma was going to make gravy, she needed a skillet and I was sooo embarrased to show her mine because it used to be a black pan, but now the bottom is like brown and all the non stick stuff has come off. She asked me what happened to my skillet and I just told her its wore out. I wish I could just throw it away! The garbage probably wouldn’t even

Worst cooking experience: My husband was cooking up a fast dinner for our large family (usually my job!), when the power went off. We scramble to find a flashlight and calm the kids. We end up having cereal for dinner and went to bed early. Power turns on in the early morning hours and we find our dinner burned to a blacked mess on top of the stove with the charred remains of a plastic cooking spoon still in the pot. When I first got married I didn’t know how to cook much less how to use any pots and pans. When I first met my husband I basically only knew how to cook peas and cornbread, so by the time we got married he definatly didn’t want that anymore. On occasion I still have burned somethings and smoked up the house. it seems when I do that it takes forever to take get the smoked cleared. Now I feel I can cook anything and my kitchen is my best friend. I love to cook for my family and my husband loves my cooking and says I can cook anything. He even brags….. I would love to have those pots and pans.

Needless to say, that did not turn out well. It ended in my mom streaking through the house naked as she was getting a bath at the time. In my defense I was smart enogh to go get her and I was only 2 yrs old.

A few years ago I went to heat up the oven. We store pots & pan & corning ware in the oven. In my infinite wizdom I thought that it was all heat proof. Well I melted some corning ware plastic lids to the corning ware and melted the handles off of the pots & pans. So we had to throw alot of stuff away as I destroyed it. That taught me to remove the items from the oven before heating it up.

Worst Cooking experience was on Valentine’s day. It wasn’t may story, but my husband’s. He was cooking an extravagant dinner for me and had steak in the pan in the oven. When I got home he was just finishing up and he brought it out and placed it on top of the stove. In the craziness of trying to complete everything, he tried to move the pan while forgetting it was still super hot. He ended up with a burn on his hand and we called a nurse friend to check it out to make sure he didn’t need medical attention. Needless to say, that Valentine’s Day was not a very good one. The food was good though. :)

However, later on, when we preheated the oven to cook supper for our company, there was a bit of a crackling noise and perhaps a faint burnt smell. That’s when we dashed to the oven to pull out the hidden pots and pans!

I went to check on them and found they were burned black and they would not unstick from the sheet. 15 minutes letter when I had all the burnt cookies in the trash I had to wash a black cookie sheet. After washing the sheet several time it is still stained a golden color and is no longer non-stick.

Being that I’m 26 and newly in my own home, there have been LOTS of horrible cooking experiences! (I grew up in a single-dad home, and give him all the credit in the world for raising us, but cooking was NOT his thing!)

My most recent had to be when I was cooking the Thanksgiving turkey…. I didn’t know that “Convection Bake” and “Bake” are different. I set the temp at 350 and put it on convection bake. I also seemed to remember something about “always keeping the turkey on the top rack, closest to the heat.” Ummm, apparently that was do NOT keep the turkey on the top rack, close to the heat!

Add to the mix that I couldn’t find a cover for the roasting pan, so used a cookie sheet instead (only later was I told to use tin foil….) The cookie sheet was balanced ontop of the turkey, which was on the top rack, in a convection oven….

Long (and smokey) story short – my turkey skin burn under the cookie sheet, which made it like concrete, and the cookie pan got so warped from being on the direct heat of the spinny fan thingie in the convection oven that it got stuck, and I had to ask a friend to drive to my city to help me get it out of the oven.

    HORRIBLE experience!

Thank you for the chance to win, and good luck to everyone else :)
