If you’ve followed me for any length of time, you know I’m a fan of Dave Ramsey’s approach to financial freedom: To get out of debt the same way you learned to walk—one step at a time! Dave has taught the principles of managing and budgeting your money, getting out of debt, building wealth, and living in financial peace to millions via radio, books, Financial Peace University, live events and online.
Dave Ramsey’s mission to help others learn how to get out and stay out of debt began in 1992, after losing everything himself. He wanted to learn everything he could about money so that it could not control him ever again and teach others to do the same. At first he offered counseling to others going through financial loss. A short time later, his radio show began and he wrote his first book, Financial Peace. Now he has more books, a whole array of educational series, including the well-known Financial Peace University (FPU), a TV Show on Fox Business Network and still runs the radio show, now called The Dave Ramsey Show.
His proven method is to use the Seven Baby Steps starting with a small emergency fund and then snowballing that debt. There are so many resources for families, including budgeting and tracking worksheets online, free with My Total Money Makeover subscription. But I love that there are also products to help parents teach our children about money. Dave believes it is so important to give these future adults a great foundation so that they hopefully will not make some of the same mistakes many of us have made. He also has products and seminars directed toward helping businesses operate with integrity and without debt.
Dave’s desire to provide common-sense education and empowerment which gives HOPE to everyone from the financially secure to the financially distressed is felt every time he is on the air!
Some of his great tools include:
Kids Monster Pack ($49.95): it is always good to start good habits early. The Kid’s Monster Pack will start showing your children how to handle money from a young age. Kit includes Financial Peace Jr., all 6 of Dave’s illustrated kids’ books, plus the NEW Junior’s Adventures 6 CD Audio Set.
Financial Peace University Lifetime Membership ($109): Kit includes Full-Color FPU Workbook, High-Quality Audio CD Library with all 13 lessons, Durable Envelope System (my favorite), Financial Peace Revisited book, a lifetime membership (you and your spouse can attend an FPU class anywhere, any time, at no extra charge!) and more!
Starter Pack ($49): The Total Money Makeover Book, Money Answer Book, Cash Flow Planning DVD, Dumping Debt DVD, Designer Red Envelope System and Dave’s Budgeting Software (CD-ROM).
6 Month Subscription ($59.70): Your “how-to” place online! Site includes tools, baby steps outline, Dave’s show (commercial free), and forums for discussion with other community members.

Love to match up coupons and sales and get things for pennies.
My biggest tip at the moment, is to work together. The mountain of bills is sometimes too much for only 1 to handle. We sat down and on a calendar wrote what bills to pay according to pay days. It’s helping, but I think Dave could help WAAAAYY more.
Only spend cash… cuts down on unneccesary purchases!
I love the envelope system. It takes so much stress out of about everything in life!

I receive the FCL emails. Thanks!
I signed up for your emails
My favorite financial tip is;
Use cash to buy your budgeted items, as you are “painfully” separated from it and most likely to spend less that way.

My husband and I are currently taking Dave’s Financial Peace University Class… BEST money tip EVER
Buy clothing for NEXT year at the end of each season, during CLEARANCE sales!
My favorite financial tip is to work together w/ your significant other to get your finances straight. I did all the finances by myself for years and it took a toll on me and I got so overwhelmed. Now we have a “financial” talk once a week where we plan our weekly menu and talk about our budget. Not only have we saved money, but our marriage and bond is stronger for it.
If I knew a good financial tip I’d be using it! I need some serious help!
I follow Dave Ramsey and Frugal Coupon Living on facebook now! Woot Woot!!

Try to buy things on sale and use coupons.
My Favorite Dave Tip: My husband and I have started using cash for purchases such as groceries and gas. In our first month we reduced our spending by over $300! Pretty much all we did different was start using cash for purchases and ditch the debit card. Amazing how something so simple could have such a huge impact!
Yea! I’m a friend on facebook now!

Use coupons when you can!
Over the past few years I’ve had a certain amount of money taken out of every paycheck and direct deposited into my savings account. I’ve found that it has really added up!!

Fave Financial Tip: Once you pay off the credit card with the highest APR, use that money to pay off the next to do the “snowball effect” on your debt.
Desperately need this giveaway. In real estate until the big crash 2 years ago and up to eyeballs in debt and desiring to adopt. The math just is not working out so starting a family has to wait until the debt is eradicated (we’re older, too).
Thanks for the opportunity!

Kimberly

I’m not on Twitter, though.
Never carry a balance on your credit card! I know Dave says to not have a credit card, but someone once hacked into an online account and stole my debit card number……tying up my actual money! I would rather someone steal money I don’t actually have and am counting on to pay rent. =)
I subscribe to your email newsletter!
I “Like” Dave Ramsey on facebook. I’ve heard nothing but great things about Dave Ramsey and what he teaches.

My favorite tip is just to live within your means, do not spend what you do not have.
A penny saved is a penny earned!
Keep some easy and inexpensive meals on hand (such as spaghetti) to combat the inevitable urge to eat out when time is a little short or you are tired after work.
I’m an email subscriber!

I have so many tips…favorite would have to be my tagline in my classroom “Always pay yourself first”. Always treat your savings like it is a bill and pay it when you pay the bills, that way you never forget to save.
Pay with Cash!
My favorite financial tip is to save 1/3 of what you make give 1/3 of what you make and pay bills with the last 1/3. It allows me to make sure I am giving and saving while taking care of the household as well.
