Make prayer meaningful for children when you explore fun and simple ways to teach kids how to talk to Jesus. Through engaging activities and Bible crafts, parents and educators will find interactive tools, including a Prayer Cube Printable and a Talking to Jesus Cell Phone Craft, designed to help kids grow their relationship with God in a fun, hands-on way.

teaching kids how to talk to jesus

Teaching children how to talk to Jesus is one of the most important life skills we can give them. The beauty of prayer is that it’s a conversation—a simple, heartfelt dialogue between us and God. But how do we make this concept easy and fun for little ones to grasp? Whether through structured prayers like the ACTS Prayer, the Lord’s Prayer, or more casual daily conversations, there are so many creative ways to introduce kids to the joy of talking to Jesus.

In this post, we’ll explore some fun, hands-on ways to teach kids to pray, including engaging crafts like the ACTS Prayer Template, for older kids, the Five-Finger Prayer, the Lord’s Prayer Craft Set, and the ever-popular Talking to Jesus Cell Phone Craft. Let’s dive into these ideas!

Why Teaching Kids to Pray is Important

Prayer is the foundation of a strong relationship with God. By teaching children how to pray, we’re giving them the tools to express gratitude, seek guidance, ask for help, and grow their faith. Even though prayer can feel abstract to kids, there are simple, interactive ways to make it a meaningful part of their everyday lives.

Fun and Simple Ways to Teach Kids to Talk to Jesus

Helping kids learn to talk to Jesus can be fun and easy! By breaking down prayer into manageable steps and using creative, hands-on activities, children can connect with God in ways that feel natural to them. Whether it’s through structured prayers or casual conversations, these methods will inspire kids to build a deeper relationship with Jesus. Let’s explore some fun ways to get started!

The ACTS Prayer

One of the easiest ways to structure prayer for children is through the ACTS prayer, which stands for Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, and Supplication. This method helps guide them through talking to Jesus in a balanced way—praising God, asking for forgiveness, giving thanks, and making requests.

To make this fun and interactive, try using an ACTS Prayer Template. Kids can color, decorate, and fill in their prayers under each section. It’s a great way to introduce structure while still letting them express their thoughts freely.

Craft Idea: ACTS Prayer Template

  • In our shop, the printable ACTS Prayer template (on Etsy) or ACTS Prayer Coloring Wheel (on Etsy) breaks down each section of the prayer and gives kids space to write or draw their own prayers.
  • A great way to practice the ACTS model in Sunday school or at home!

The Lord’s Prayer

The Lord’s Prayer is a wonderful way to introduce kids to a structured, biblical prayer. In the Gospels, Jesus Himself taught this prayer, and it’s filled with all the key elements of speaking to God. You can teach children to memorize it, but don’t stop there! Break it down into simple parts and explain what each section means in terms they can understand.

Pair this with our Lord’s Prayer Craft Set—a fun, interactive way for children to learn and engage with the word of God and each part of the prayer.

Craft Idea: The Lord’s Prayer Craft Set

  • In our shop, the Lord’s Prayer Activity set (or on Etsy) walks children through the different sections of the Lord’s Prayer with colorful visuals and fun activities.
  • The set includes a coloring wheel, mini book, hand tracing craft, coloring page for younger kids, and activity mat for older kids.
  • It helps them understand the meaning behind each line while creating something they can keep.

Five-Finger Prayer

The Five-Finger Prayer is another easy and memorable way to teach kids how to pray. Each finger represents a different part of the prayer:

  • Pinky Finger: Praise
  • Ring Finger: Give thanks
  • Middle Finger: Pray for others
  • Index Finger: Ask for forgiveness
  • Thumb: Pray for ourselves

Kids love this visual method because it’s simple and ties prayer to something they use every day—their hands!

Craft Idea: Five-Finger Prayer Template

  • Use a fun printable Prayer outline (on Etsy too) to help children remember the Five-Finger Prayer. They can color the fingers and add their prayer points.
  • This is perfect for younger kids who need a tangible, easy-to-understand way to organize their prayers.

Daily Conversations with Jesus

It’s important to remind children that they don’t need to wait for a special moment to talk to Jesus. Prayer can happen anytime—whether they’re happy, sad, or just want to talk. Encouraging daily conversation with Jesus helps kids see that God is always with them and listening.

One way to reinforce this idea is with our Talking to Jesus Cell Phone Craft. Kids love the idea of texting and calling Jesus—just like they would their friends or family. This craft is a fun reminder that Jesus is always there, just a prayer away.

Craft Idea: Talking to Jesus Cell Phone Craft

  • This printable Call on Jesus craft (also on Etsy) features a cell phone template where kids can “text” or “call” Jesus, write down their favorite worship songs, and even track their gratitude.
  • It’s a creative way to remind children that Jesus is always available for a conversation.

Talk to Jesus Any Time

Teaching kids that they can talk to Jesus whenever they need to is a wonderful way to help them feel connected to their faith. Whether they’re feeling joyful, worried, or anything in between, knowing that Jesus is always available for a conversation is key to building a strong prayer life.

A fun way to encourage this is with our Talk to Jesus Paper Bag Puppet Craft. Kids will create a puppet of Jesus using a simple brown paper bag, making it an engaging, hands-on way to bring the idea of prayer to life. The puppet serves as a reminder that they can “talk” to Jesus anytime, just like a close friend.

Craft Idea: Talk to Jesus Paper Bag Puppet

  • This Jesus Puppet craft (on Etsy too) uses a brown paper bag as the base for a simple Jesus puppet. Kids can decorate the paper bag puppet to represent Jesus, adding their own creative touches.
  • The puppet can be used during prayer time, reminding children that Jesus is always there to listen and guide them.

Prayer Cube Printable for Kids

The Prayer Cube is a fun, interactive way for kids to engage in prayer! This printable craft allows children to roll a cube with different types of prayers on each side, helping them explore various ways to talk to Jesus.

Each side of the cube could feature:

  • Praise: Offering thanks and praise to God.
  • Confession: Asking for forgiveness.
  • Thanksgiving: Being grateful for blessings.
  • Requests: Asking God for help or guidance.
  • Blessing Others: Praying for friends and family.
  • Open Conversation: A free moment to talk to Jesus about anything.

Craft Idea: Prayer Cube Printable

  • Print, color, cut, and assemble the Prayer Cube (also on Etsy) for a hands-on, fun prayer activity.
  • Each side will encourage a different type of prayer, making it a perfect tool for teaching kids how to communicate with God in a balanced way.

This is a great activity for kids to use daily during prayer time, as they can roll the cube and let the side that lands guide their conversation with Jesus!

Making Prayer Fun and Interactive for Kids

By turning prayer into a hands-on activity, we’re giving children the opportunity to learn in a way that feels natural and enjoyable. Whether it’s through a structured model like the ACTS Prayer or a casual, heartfelt conversation, kids will begin to understand that Jesus is always there, ready to listen and guide them.

Why Crafts Help: Crafting creates a physical connection to what they’re learning, making prayer more concrete and less abstract. When they color, decorate, and personalize their prayers, they’re creating a memory and a habit that will stick with them long after the craft is done.

crafts for kids on the lords prayer

Teaching kids how to pray is an incredible journey—one that fills their hearts with faith and brings smiles to their faces! When developing a relationship with Christ, one of the most important prayers they can learn is The Lord’s Prayer, a powerful and beautiful prayer given by Jesus Himself. Below, we’ll explore what The Lord’s Prayer is, why it’s so important, and how you can bring this special prayer to life with hands-on activities that kids will absolutely love and use to remember God’s word!

What is The Lord’s Prayer?

The Lord’s Prayer is a gift from Jesus Christ to His disciples—and to us, his followers! Known as “Our Father,” this prayer teaches us how to talk to God. Found in Matthew 6:9-13, The Lord’s Prayer is packed with all the essentials of faith: worship, asking for God’s help, forgiving others, and recognizing God’s power. It’s a perfect guide for little hearts and minds eager to connect with God.

Why is The Lord’s Prayer Important?

The Lord’s Prayer is a wonderful tool to teach kids the foundation of their faith. It shows them how to talk to God in a simple yet powerful way, introducing key values like adoration, confession, forgiveness, trust, and submission to God’s will. By learning this Christian prayer, children start to build a lifelong relationship with God—one filled with love, hope, and joy!

Where is The Lord’s Prayer Found in the Bible?

Part of the Gospels, you can find The Lord’s Prayer in Matthew 6:9-13 as part of Jesus’ famous Sermon on the Mount. This special prayer has been passed down through hundreds of generations, and now you have the joy of passing it on to the next generation of little believers. How exciting is that?

A Kid-Friendly Breakdown of The Lord’s Prayer

God provides us a template for prayer in the book of Matthew!  To help your kids grasp the beauty of this prayer, let’s break it down together! Each part of The Lord’s Prayer is packed with meaning, and here’s how you can explain each part of the prayer to children in a fun and easy-to-understand way:

  • “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name”: In adoration, we start by praising God for who He is—our heavenly Father who loves us!
  • “Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven”: We ask for God’s plans to unfold in our world and in our lives.
  • “Give us this day our daily bread”: Just as the Lord provided daily rations of manna to the Israelites in the wilderness, we trust God to take care of all our needs. Every. Single. Day.
  • “And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors”: We ask God to forgive us of our sins and help us forgive others—what a beautiful reminder of God’s love!
  • “And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil”: We ask God to guide us away from wrong choices and keep us safe.
  • “For yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever”: We end with a joyful shout of praise, celebrating God’s everlasting power and goodness!  (This is in King James Version)

Isn’t it amazing how this prayer covers everything from worship to daily needs? It’s a great way to introduce children to the wonder of prayer and what it means to rely on God.

Discover a fun, interactive way to teach kids the Beatitudes with this adorable Bee-Attitude Craft and Bible Lesson. Spark joy and faith in young hearts as they learn and create using Matthew 5.

The Beatitudes, found in Matthew 5:1-12, are among the most profound teachings of Jesus, offering guidance on living a life that reflects the kingdom of heaven. The Beatitudes are the first of a series of teachings from Jesus, called The Sermon on the Mount. The Sermon of the Mount is broken down into a number of teachings and sections. The Sermon on the Mount is one of the most significant and comprehensive teachings of Jesus Christ, found in the New Testament of the Bible, primarily in the Gospel of Matthew, chapters 5 through 7. It is considered by many as the core of Christian ethical teaching.

This sermon presents a radical call to discipleship and presents the ideals of the kingdom of heaven, contrasting with the legalistic practices of the time. Jesus delivers this sermon on a mountainside to his disciples and a large crowd, hence the name “Sermon on the Mount.”

Here are some key elements and teachings found within the Sermon on the Mount:

  1. The Beatitudes
  2. Salt and Light
  3. Fulfillment of the Law
  4. Teachings on Anger, Lust, Divorce, and Oaths
  5. Love for Enemies
  6. Acts of Righteousness
  7. The Lord’s Prayer
  8. Treasures in Heaven
  9. Do Not Worry
  10. Judging Others
  11. Ask, Seek, Knock
  12. The Golden Rule
  13. The Narrow and Wide Gates
  14. A Tree and Its Fruit
  15. The Wise and Foolish Builders

Today we will focus on section one of the opening of Jesus’ message – The 8 Beatitudes and their meaning. Teaching the values of Jesus’ Beatitudes to children in Sunday School or Bible Lessons can seem challenging, but incorporating crafts into learning can make these biblical principles accessible and engaging even for the youngest hearts. A particularly effective craft for this purpose is the Beatitudes Coloring Wheel, perfect for Christian schools, Sunday school classrooms, Bible studies, or family time.

Let’s look at The Beatitudes for Kids simplified.

Understanding the Beatitudes and Their Meaning

the beatitudes for kids simplified bible activity

The Beatitudes are eight blessings pronounced by Jesus during the Sermon on the Mount. The Beatitudes list begins in Matthew 5: 1-12. Each Beatitude begins with “Blessed are…” and promises the kingdom of heaven to those who embody the virtues Jesus describes. They offer a wealth of wisdom that can be broken down into easy explanations for Children’s church.

The chapter begins…

“Now when Jesus saw the crowds, he went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to him, and he began to teach them. He said…” (verse 1-2)

Then the list of Beatitudes is introduced.

Here’s a brief overview of each as well as a simplified meaning for kids:

The Poor in Spirit

Bible Verse

“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” (verse 3)

Explanation

People who don’t have much, like food or clothes, and those who feel something is missing inside and know they really need God’s love, are both considered poor. They’re promised a wonderful gift: a place in heaven. This refers to those who recognize their need for God. It teaches humility and dependence on God’s grace.

Those Who Mourn

Bible Verse

“Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.” (verse 4)

Explanation

Anyone feeling sad or going through a tough time, like losing something special, is who Jesus is talking about. He promises to make them feel better. When things get hard, we can either get upset and angry, or we can use it to understand and help others who are hurting too. Comfort is promised to those who grieve, acknowledging the healing and consolation that comes from God.

The Meek

Bible Verse

“Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.” (verse 5)

Explanation

Meek people are those who are gentle and wait patiently. They solve problems without fighting or getting angry. Their reward is something very valuable – Inheriting the earth. The meek are those who exercise self-control and show gentleness to others.

Those Who Hunger and Thirst for Righteousness

Bible Verse

“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.” (verse 6)

Explanation

This Beatitude encourages a deep desire for justice and moral integrity, promising fulfillment. Being filled is a special blessing for those who really want to make things right and fair in the world. Those who hunger for righteousness can easily spot what’s wrong and often have a clear and straightforward way of looking at complicated problems.

The Merciful

Bible Verse

“Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.” (verse 7)

Explanation

Showing compassion earns mercy in return, highlighting the importance of forgiveness and empathy. Mercy can mean a lot of things like being forgiving, kind, and caring. The more mercy you show, the more you’ll find comes back to you. Sometimes it is easier to be merciful to others when you’re also kind to yourself.

The Pure in Heart

Bible Verse

“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.” (verse 8)

Explanation

A call to sincerity and wholesomeness, promising a vision of God to those who are pure. People who have a pure heart are free from meanness and are full of innocence. They can ‘see’ God clearly because nothing is getting in the way of their view! Those with pure hearts also put God first in everything and everyone.

The Peacemakers

Bible Verse

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.” (verse 9)

Explanation

Those who foster peace and reconciliation are recognized as children of God. Jesus wants us all to be peacemakers, to spread peace wherever we go. Being God’s children means we should always try to bring people together and help them understand each other. Peacemakers look for ways to solve disagreements kindly, listen to all sides, and find solutions that make everyone feel happy and safe.

Those Persecuted for Righteousness’ Sake

Bible Verse

“Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” (verse 10)

Explanation

Enduring hardship for doing what is right earns the kingdom of heaven, emphasizing the value of standing up for justice. Doing the right thing, like standing up to a bully or facing someone who is being mean, can be tough. Yet, Jesus teaches us that being brave and choosing what’s right is what being his follower is all about. We practice this courage, showing that living like Jesus means standing up for what is good and true.

The sermon concludes with “Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you. (verses 11-12.)

The Beatitudes Coloring Wheel Craft

To make the Beatitudes more relatable to kids, let’s look at some Beatitudes craft ideas. We’ve put together an adorable Bible lesson spinner wheel for kids. The coloring wheel craft for Sunday School is an innovative tool for understanding these parables and extending the Good News into kids’ lives.

Our Beatitudes Coloring wheel requires kids to color the eight Beatitudes on separate sections of a wheel, engage in a cutting activity to prepare the top and bottom parts, and then assemble them using brass fasteners. This activity not only fosters creativity and motor skills but also encourages children to reflect on each Beatitude as they work on the craft.

For younger children or toddlers, a simple coloring page version is available, focusing on the Beatitudes of Jesus without the need for scissors, making it safe and accessible for kids of all ages.

Extending the Lesson

Incorporating the Beatitudes Coloring Wheel into your kids Bible lesson can extend the learning experience in several ways:

The Life of Moses Story Overview

the life of moses in the bible

Moses is one of the most important figures in the Bible, known for leading the Israelites out of slavery in Egypt and receiving the Ten Commandments from God on Mount Sinai. The stories of Moses unfold across the Old Testament in the Books of the Bible including Exodus, Leviticus, Deuteronomy, and Numbers. However, his legacy transcends these books, as he is repeatedly mentioned throughout the Bible. Notably, he stands as one of the prophets most frequently referenced in the New Testament.

Moses’ full story is full of exciting events and miracles that make it a great source of inspiration for kids’ crafts. Starting with his birth and going to the final days in the wilderness, there are many examples of where God was at work in the life of Moses.

The Birth of Moses

Moses was born during a time when the Pharaoh of Egypt had ordered all Hebrew baby boys to be killed. His mother put him in a basket and set him adrift on the Nile River, where he was found by the Pharaoh’s daughter and raised in the royal court.

Moses and the Burning Bush

After leaving Egypt, one day while tending his flock in the wilderness, Moses saw a burning bush that was not consumed by the flames. God spoke to him from the bush and told him to lead the people of Israel out of Egypt.

The 10 Plagues

Moses and his brother Aaron went to Pharaoh and demanded that he release God’s people. When he refused, God sent ten plagues upon Egypt, including turning the Nile River into blood, sending swarms of locusts, and causing darkness to cover the land.

The Exodus

After the final plague, in which every firstborn son in Egypt died, Pharaoh finally agreed to let the slaves go. Moses led them out of Egypt, but Pharaoh changed his mind and pursued them with his army. God parted the Red Sea so the Israelites could escape and then closed it on the pursuing Egyptians.

The Ten Commandments

While the Israelites were in the wilderness, God gave Moses the Ten Commandments on Mount Sinai. These commandments are still considered a cornerstone of Judeo-Christian morality.

The Tent of Meeting & The Tabernacle

After receiving the Ten Commandments, Moses built the Tent of Meeting, a portable sanctuary where he could meet with God. Later, the Israelites built the Tabernacle, a larger and more permanent version of the Tent of Meeting, to house the Ark of the Covenant and other sacred objects.

The Death of Moses

Despite the many miracles that occurred during his lifetime and his faithfulness to the Lord, Moses never went into the promise Land. Instead, his life ended on a mountain, Mount Nebo. There God gave Moses a glimpse of the promised land before he died.

Let’s look at a timeline of crafts that depict different events in the life of Moses.

Craft Materials and Safety Tips

life of moses crafts and activities for kids

Choosing the Right Materials

When it comes to Moses crafts for kids, choosing the right materials is important to ensure that the craft is safe and enjoyable. Here are some materials that are commonly used in crafts for Moses:

  • Construction paper
  • Cardstock (I love this cardstock)
  • Scissors
  • Glue sticks
  • Markers
  • Paint
  • Paintbrushes
  • Tissue Paper
  • Brass Fasteners
  • Cotton balls
  • Popsicle sticks

… and more!

It’s important to choose age-appropriate materials for the craft. For example, younger children should use safety scissors instead of regular scissors to avoid accidents.  Preschoolers can enjoy Moses coloring pages or activities that do not involve cutting. Older kids can choose Moses activities that are more intricate and detailed.

Safety Guidelines for Kids Crafts

When working on Moses crafts with kids, safety should be a top priority. Here are some safety guidelines to keep in mind:

  • Always supervise children when they are using scissors, glue, or other craft materials.
  • Make sure that craft materials are non-toxic and safe for children to use.
  • Keep small objects, such as beads or buttons, out of reach of young children as they can be a choking hazard.
  • Encourage children to wash their hands after using craft materials to avoid any potential health risks.
  • Store craft materials in a safe place where children cannot access them when they are not being used.

By following these safety guidelines and choosing the right materials, kids can have a fun and safe time creating crafts about Moses.

These creative crafts invite kids to explore the story of Moses in an interactive and imaginative way.

Fiery Handprint Bush

Fiery Handprint burning Bush of moses

Kids can create their own burning bush with this fiery handprint craft. Start by having the child paint their hand with red, orange, and yellow paint. Then, have them press their hand onto a piece of paper to create the bush. Once the flames of fire dry, use a hot glue gun to glue small twigs on the paper to represent a bush. This craft is a fun way to teach kids about the story of Moses and the burning bush. For a classroom display or fun Moses Bulletin Board, you can combine handprints from the students to make one large burning bush classroom display.

Accurate Bible Depiction: The leaves on the burning bush did not burn. Once the Moses handprint art is dry, also add green leaves showing the bush is still intact.

Tissue Paper Bush Moses Coloring Sheet

For this Moses and the Burning Bush coloring page craft, kids can make a colorful and textured burning bush using tissue paper. Start by coloring the picture of Moses with a burning Bush (or use the included colored copy.) Once complete, have the child crumple up pieces of red, orange, and yellow tissue paper and glue them onto the bush to create the flames for a fun 3-D texture. This Burning Bush Moses craft is a great way to encourage creativity and imagination while learning about the story of Moses.

Sunday School Lesson Activity Idea: Moses was asked to take off his sandals because he was “standing on holy ground.” For these fun Moses Bible Crafts, make it a no-shoe day. Ask the kids to leave their shoes beside the classroom door because they are “standing on Holy ground.”

How do I make a Burning Bush craft that will capture kids’ imaginations?

To make a Burning Bushcraft that will capture kids’ imaginations, you can use tissue paper in shades of red, orange, and yellow to create flames. Extend this idea and add glitter or sequins for extra sparkle. Finally, another idea is to use a battery-operated tea light to make the flames flicker and glow.

Splitting Water Experiment

Moses parting the red sea science experiment for kids

Kids can recreate the iconic scene of Moses parting the Red Sea with this Simple 5-Minute Science Experiment. For this homeschool lesson on the Red Sea in the Bible, all that is needed is a clear container, water, red food coloring, and cooking oil. Fill the container with water, drops of red food coloring, and a layer of cooking oil on top. The oil will float on top of the water, creating a visible separation. As an extension, using a toothpick or straw, kids can gently stir the oil layer to create a gap in the middle. The water will flow into the gap, creating the illusion of the Red Sea parting. This experiment is a great way to teach kids about the science behind oil and water and the importance of patience and precision in scientific experiments. What is the difference between Tabernacle and Tent of Meeting?

The Tabernacle and the Tent of Meeting were both super important spots for the Israelites when it came to talking to God, but they had their own special roles. Think of the Tabernacle as the main hangout for everyone to get together, worship, and make sacrifices. It was like the community’s spiritual home base. On the other hand, the Tent of Meeting was more of a private chat room where Moses got to catch up with God one-on-one, getting all the latest guidance and insider info. And get this – after Moses had these face-to-face meetings with God, he had to wear a veil because his face was literally glowing. Pretty cool, right? So, while both places were all about connecting with God, they did it in different ways: one was for everyone to join in, and the other was for those heart-to-heart chats with the big guy upstairs.

cute book of job crafts for kids

Teaching the Book of Job to kids might seem daunting at first. The story is complex and deals with deep themes of suffering, faith, and perseverance. However, with the right approach, it can be incredibly enriching and relatable for children of all ages. From preschoolers to preteens, kids can learn valuable lessons about trusting God, even during tough times. In this blog post, we’ll explore various Sunday school lesson ideas and incorporate some creative crafts to make learning about Job both fun and memorable.

Introduction to Job

Start with an introduction to Job. Explain that Job was a man who loved God and was very blessed, but he went through a lot of difficult times. Despite his suffering, Job never lost his faith in God. This sets the stage for kids to understand that the Bible story of Job is about more than just his trials—it’s about faith and trust in God and the growth that can take place in times of suffering.

A Short Story About the Life of Job

Job lived in the land of Uz and was known as a righteous and upright man. He had a large family, with seven sons and three daughters, and was very wealthy. Job owned thousands of sheep, camels, and other livestock. He also had many servants who worked for him. Job was truly blessed and always thanked God for his blessings.

One day, Satan came to God and said that Job was only faithful because of his wealth and good fortune. To test Job’s faith, God allowed Satan to take away all of Job’s blessings. In a single day, Job lost his livestock to raiders, his servants were killed, and a great wind destroyed the house where all of Job’s children were gathered, killing them all. It was a very bad day for Job, but he did not blame God.

Next, Satan afflicted Job with painful boils and sores all over his body. Even in his immense suffering, Job remained faithful. His wife told him to “curse God and die,” but Job responded that they should accept both good and trouble from God.

Job had three friends—Eliphaz, Bildad, and Zophar—who came to comfort him. They believed that Job must have sinned to deserve such suffering and urged him to repent. However, Job maintained his innocence and continued to trust in God. A young man named Elihu also spoke to Job, suggesting that his suffering was meant for his growth.

In the end, God spoke to Job out of a whirlwind, reminding him of His power and wisdom. Job acknowledged God’s greatness and his own limited understanding. Because of Job’s faithfulness, God restored his fortunes, giving him twice as much as he had before. Job lived a long, blessed life, knowing that God is good all the time, even in the midst of suffering.

Discover engaging ways to teach kids The Great Commission with fun Bible crafts and activities. Parents and educators can use hands-on projects like a “Jesus is with Me” flashlight activity, a Great Commission coloring wheel, and mosaic art to help children understand and embrace their role in sharing God’s word.

how to teach the great commission to kids

Teaching the Great Commission to children is a wonderful opportunity to introduce them to the mission that Jesus gave His disciples and, ultimately, to all of us. The Great Commission is a call to action, but it can sometimes feel abstract to young minds. That’s where engaging, hands-on activities come in to help kids grasp this vital message in a way that sticks with them.

In this post, we’ll break down the basics of the Great Commission and offer creative ways for parents, teachers, and educators to teach it to kids through fun and meaningful crafts and activities that will deepen the understanding of the message. Use the ideas in discipleship and outreach, VBS, homeschooling, Sunday school, and more.

What is the Great Commission?

The Great Commission is one of the final instructions Jesus gave to His disciples before ascending into heaven. It’s found in Matthew 28:18-20, where Jesus says:

“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

This command is often summarized as Jesus’ call to spread the gospel and make disciples. It emphasizes teaching others about God, baptizing them, and showing them how to live as followers of Christ.

Why is the Great Commission Important?

The Great Commission is significant because it is the core mission that Jesus left for His followers. It’s not just a task for adults or missionaries, but for everyone—including kids. Teaching children about the Great Commission helps them understand that they, too, can share the love of Jesus with others, whether it’s through kind words, sharing Bible stories, or simply living out their faith in everyday life.

By instilling this concept early on, kids can grow up with a heart for sharing God’s love with their friends, family, and even people across the world.

What is the Purpose of the Great Commission?

The purpose of the Great Commission is to spread the message of salvation to all people. Jesus commanded His disciples to teach others about God’s love and His plan of salvation through Jesus Christ. It’s not just about spreading information—it’s about transforming lives through the power of the gospel.

When kids learn the Great Commission, they begin to see how they can be a part of God’s plan to reach others. It also gives them a sense of purpose and helps them understand that their faith is something to be shared.

Where is the Great Commission Found?

matthew 28 the great commission in the bible

The Great Commission is most famously found in Matthew 28:18-20.

“And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

However, similar calls to spread the gospel are also mentioned in other parts of the New Testament:

  • Mark 16:15: “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation.”
  • Acts 1:8: “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

These passages show that the call to share the good news of Jesus is a central theme in the New Testament and an ongoing mission for all believers.

The Great Commission Mosaic Art Craft

Let kids get creative while reflecting on the message of the Great Commission by making a mosaic of the Earth (on Etsy too), reminding them that Jesus’ command is to reach the whole world. Print these globes on paper and decide on one of the following crafts. Choose a simple craft for preschool with coloring or a more complex activity using cut-up cardstock or construction paper for older kids.

earth mosaic art the great commission

Coloring Option

For younger kids, provide an Earth outline they can color with green and blue crayons. This is a simple activity that helps improve fine motor skills while reflecting on the message of going into the world.

Tissue Paper Option

For a more tactile experience, have kids glue 1-inch x 1-inch pieces of green and blue tissue paper onto the Earth outline sheet of paper. This creates a fun, textured look while reinforcing the Bible lesson.

Mosaic Option

For older children, provide blue and green cardstock pieces cut into various shapes. They can cut paper themselves and place them in a pile at the center of the table. Let them glue these pieces onto the commission globe, creating a beautiful mosaic. This option helps kids develop patience and creativity while thinking about their role in sharing the gospel with the world.

Final Thoughts on Teaching the Great Commission to Kids

Teaching the Great Commission to kids doesn’t have to be overwhelming. By using fun, hands-on activities like the ones listed above, parents and educators can make this important biblical message both understandable and memorable for children.

Remember, kids are never too young to start learning about their faith and how they can share God’s love with others. With these crafts, you’re not only teaching them about the Great Commission but also empowering them to live it out in their own lives.

Explaining the Holy Trinity to kids? Teaching kids about God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit is like unlocking a magical mystery box. The idea of God 3-in-1 can feel puzzling at first, but fear not! Dive into our treasure trove of delightful Sunday School crafts and clever tips to make learning about the Holy Trinity a blast for your little ones. Let’s embark on this faith-filled adventure together!

how to teach kids the holy trinity

The Holy Trinity is a cornerstone of the Christian faith, encompassing the belief in one God existing in three distinct persons: God the Father, God the Son (Jesus Christ), and God the Holy Spirit. While this God is 3-in-1 concept may seem complex, especially for young minds, it holds profound significance in understanding the nature of God and His relationship with his people.

So what is the importance of teaching the Trinity to children? Introducing children to the concept of the Holy Trinity is essential for their spiritual growth and understanding. By laying the foundation of this fundamental belief early on, parents and educators can help children develop a deeper connection to their faith and foster a sense of reverence and awe for the divine. Moreover, grasping the concept of the Trinity can instill values of unity, love, and community, shaping children’s worldviews and guiding them in their journey of faith.

Understanding the Holy Trinity

the holy trinity for kids lessons and crafts

What is the Holy Trinity?

At its core, the Holy Trinity represents the threefold nature of God. It embodies the belief that God exists as three distinct persons, yet is one divine being. These three persons are the Father, the Son (Jesus Christ), and the Holy Spirit. Each part of the Trinity has its own job in God’s plan, but they stick together forever (inseparable) and have always been around (co-eternal.)

Explanation of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit

  • The Father: Often portrayed as the Godhead, the creator of the universe The Father embodies a sense of loving authority and nurturing care for all creation. He’s like the wise overseer of everything, guiding and protecting us with a fatherly touch.
  • The Son (Jesus Christ): Jesus Christ is like the human side of God, coming to earth as a friend to teach humankind important lessons and show us what God’s love really means. His teachings, sacrifice, and resurrection offer us hope and a path to reconciliation with God.
  • The Holy Spirit: The Holy Spirit is often described as the divine presence within believers, guiding, comforting, and empowering them in their faith journey. It is through the Holy Spirit that God interacts with individuals and manifests His power (the power of God) in the world.

Analogy of the Trinity Using Examples Children Can Relate To

Explaining the concept of the Trinity to children can be challenging but using relatable analogies can make it easier to grasp. For instance, just as water can exist in three states—liquid, solid (ice), and gas (vapor)—yet remains H2O, the Trinity comprises three distinct persons while being one God. Similarly, consider the analogy of an apple: it consists of the peel, the flesh, and the core. Though 3 parts of an apple, it is one apple. These simple comparisons help children understand the concept of 3-in-1 with distinct rolls within the Trinity, making it more accessible and relatable to their young minds.

Trinity Sunday

Incorporating a lesson for kids on the Holy Trinity can happen whenever and wherever.  However, in the Christian calendar, Trinity Sunday stands out as a special celebration that falls on the first Sunday after Pentecost. It serves as a time to honor and reflect upon the Holy Trinity – the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Churches often mark this occasion with special services, hymns, and prayers that highlight the central role of the Blessed Trinity in Christian theology. Beyond the theological implications, Trinity Sunday also serves as a reminder of the profound relationship between God and mandkind.

miracles of Jesus for Kids crafts and lessons

Many children grow up hearing stories about the miracles of Jesus. These stories are often used to teach important lessons about faith, compassion, and forgiveness. Jesus is an important part of Christian tradition and continues to inspire believers of all ages.

One of the most well-known miracles of Jesus is the feeding of the 5000. According to the Bible, Jesus was preaching to a large crowd of people when he realized they were hungry. He took five loaves of bread and two fish and miraculously multiplied them to feed the entire crowd. This story teaches children about the power of faith and the importance of sharing with others.

Another miracle of Jesus that is often popular with children is the healing of the blind man. In this story, Jesus encounters a man who has been blind from birth. He spits on the ground, makes mud with the saliva, and puts it on the man’s eyes. The man then washes his eyes and can see for the first time. This miracle teaches children about the power of Jesus to heal and the importance of having faith in God’s ability to work miracles.

Let’s first take a look at who is Jesus.

Who is Jesus?

Jesus is the central figure of Christianity. He is the son of God and the savior of the world. According to the Bible, Jesus was born in Bethlehem to Mary and Joseph. He grew up in Nazareth and began his public ministry at the age of 30.

Jesus traveled throughout the region, preaching and performing miracles. He healed the sick, fed the hungry, and even raised the dead. His teachings were centered on love, forgiveness, and compassion for others.

Jesus’ message was so powerful that he attracted a large following. However, his teachings also made him enemies among the religious leaders of his time. He was ultimately arrested, tried, and sentenced to death by crucifixion.

Despite his death, Jesus’ followers continued to spread his message and teachings. They believed that he had risen from the dead and that his resurrection was a sign of his divinity. This belief became the foundation of the Christian faith.

Today, Jesus is revered by Christians all over the world. His teachings continue to inspire people to live a life of love, kindness, compassion, and the power of God.

Lessons We Can Learn

The miracles of Jesus aren’t just ancient stories; they’re packed with lessons that still hit home today. Think about it: Jesus healing the sick, feeding thousands with just a few loaves and fish, even walking on water! These miracles teach us about compassion, faith, and the power of believing in something bigger than ourselves. They show us that even when life gets tough, there’s always hope and help available Through the miracles of Jesus, we can learn many lessons that can help us in our daily lives.

Here are a few of them:

1. Have faith in God

Jesus performed many miracles because he had faith in God. He trusted that God would help him, and he prayed regularly. We too can have faith in God and trust that he will help us in our times of need.

2. Be compassionate

Jesus showed compassion to those who were sick, hungry, or in need. He healed the sick, fed the hungry, and comforted the grieving. We too can be compassionate and help those who are in need.

3. Believe in the impossible

Jesus performed miracles that seemed impossible, like walking on water and calming the storm. We too can believe in the impossible and have hope that anything is possible with God.

4. Share what you have

When Jesus fed the thousands of people with just a few loaves of bread and fish, he showed us the importance of sharing what we have with others. We too can share what we have with those who are in need.

5. Trust in God’s timing

Jesus did not always perform miracles right away. Sometimes he waited for the right time, like when he waited to raise Lazarus from the dead. We too can trust in God’s timing and know that he has a plan for our lives.

By learning from the miracles of Jesus, we can become better people and make a positive difference in the world around us.
