Dyson DC31

So I must admit I see every little crumb on the floor, even if its a across the house, I know it is there.  One thing you might have realized about me from a prevoius post is that I am a huge fan of vacuums.  So much so that I have given two friends handheld vacuums for their wedding gifts, and one Christmas a vacuum cleaner was actually my present underneath the tree!  And in case you may be wondering about how tactless my husband is, I actually thought it was the greatest gift ever.

I consider myself a vacuum connoisseur – an expert in the field.  This is the main reason I was thrilled to give Dyson’s newest handheld vacuum (released in September 2009), the DC31, a try. Upon opening the box, I was intriguied by the lightweight feel and the small, pettite size of this handheld.  I have two other handhelds and both weigh considerably more (yes, I did say I have TWO other handhelds).  Nevertheless, the weight and size of the vac were no indication of its power. After a really quick charge, I gave the motor and suction a try. I might have actually shouted out the lyrics to Al Green’s Let’s Stay Together (the part that expressing “I’m so in love with you.” ) This little gadget is AMAZING.  James Dyson and his team of engineers have actually created the fastest, most power-efficient motor I have ever experienced in a handheld vacuum!  I read that it spins up to 104,000rpm, which is actually five times faster than a Formula 1 race car engine.  Now I am no engineer, but to me, that’s pretty FAST.

In my home, the DC31 has performed miracles…

  • in my daughter’s highchair
  • around the cat’s litter box
  • in the car (especially betwwen the seats, along the foor and in the car seat
  • in small areas I have not been able to get dusting or with a larger size vacuum
  • for quick kitchen clean ups (after snack, after cooking, picking up crumbs, etc.)

I did a search around the internet of places you can get this AMAZING companion. After only a month out on the market, I was suprised to find the DC31 sold out in some major markets – it must be popular!

Areas You Can Find the Dyson DC31 Online:

  • Amazon - not currently available
  • Dyson.com – $219.99 (with FREE shipping)
  • Kmart.com – $197.99 (temporarily out of stock)
  • Falls Vacuum – $215.95 (it appears to have FREE shipping too)
  • Overstock.com – $211.95 ($219.00, use the code 144833 to get  $10 off with $2.95 shipping)
  • Sears.com – $214.99 ($219.99, use the code SEARS5OFF50 to get $5 off – temporarily out of stock)
  • Wal-Mart – $219.99 (with FREE site to store shipping)

If you are like me and can truly appreciate the awesome-ness of getting a really great vacuum as a holiday gift, I would encourage you to put the Dyson DC31 on your “if you could have it all” wish list.

Disclosure: I was not compensated by Dyson in any way, but I was provided with a Dyson DC31 for review. All opinions expressed are my own.

When I first saw this picture, I thought it was some kind of new powertool… like a drill or something similar. I have not seen this before, but it looks like a great idea. I too, am always looking for a great vacuum or even more so in my case, something that wet mops the tile floor easily and effectively. After having tried a few electric floor cleaners, I have that a good old fashioned bucked and wonder mop work with less effort. Let me know if you have had a good experience with a floor cleaner.

Excuse my errors. I should have proofread my previous post before posting. The one sentence should read …… I have found that a good old fashioned bucket and wonder mop work with less effort.

Can you tell me how thin the attachment is for small spaces. I know you said you are able to get in between the seats in the car, but before I go spend this type of money I would really like to see just how powerful and mauneuverable the vacuum is in cleaning the car out.
Thanks for your thoughts.

VERY THIN – it fits between my center console and my driver/passenger seat. I would say a few centimeters.

I got a vacuum for Christmas one year and still talk about how useful it is, one of my favorite gifts. I like gifts i can use all the time and this one I’ve used for nearly 2 years.
This looks like a wonderful vacuum to owe. Thanks for sharing.

I have this dyson I always wanted it so when i had some points from a work reward program I got this for FREE!!! I do love it more then other handheld’s but I do wish it would last longer between chargers. It does last longer then others though so I can’t complain. Now I am on a serch for the best regular vaccum, I have had three and all loose suction. Looking at the Dyson, the oreck and the two new ones the shark navigator. Any suggestions? would love one with a air purifier built in.

I actually just got one and was impressed with the suction power, but very disappointed that it only stays charged for 6 minutes at a time! So I only can use it for 6 minutes and then it dies, then I have to wait 3 more hours for it to charge again so I can use it again for only 6 minutes! If I had bought this at the store I would have taken it back, but since I used credit card points I’m stuck with it so I’ll make the most of it. I just wish it had an option to plug it into the wall if you wanted to use it for a little longer.
